Synopsis: Applicants are to attach a synopsis of not more than 750 words to support their proposed area of study. This should cover the scope and breadth of the study together with a bibliography. No applications will be considered without such a synopsis. It is accepted that MPhil candidates may adjust their thesis title once on the course but the synopsis demonstrates their ability to work at this level.

Applicant’s acknowledgement that: D Ed Cap is responsible for their course tuition costs and up to £1,500 pre-agreed research costs; their Unit is responsible for their college accommodation costs and T&S; and that the individual is responsible for any other costs incurred, including membership of college organisations/memberships, academic gowns, kitchen fees and further accreditation opportunities required by the college.

A Return of Service (ROS) of 36 months for Masters applies on successful completion of study. There is no ROS for Fellowships. Applicants are to sign Annex E of the Tri-Service 2013DIN01-219 Return of Service as part of the application process. Applicants are to refer to 2013DIN01-219 for the rules on ROS. Should the applicant be selected, D Ed Cap will fwd the completed ROS form to the applicant’s CM. The CM is responsible for keeping a copy of the ROS on the successful applicants Personnel File.

Application Part 1
1. To include: Proposed Course/Dissertation/Study Title; Brief summary of background knowledge of subject area; Outcomes of Value to Army and Defence; Personal motivation for proposed study.

2. AD CHACR is to be consulted to ensure that a relevant subject is chosen.


Application Part 2
1. The First Reporting Officer (1RO) must comment on the applicant’s suitability for academic study and their potential. Depending on the course, the 1RO must also acknowledge that the individual may be required to attend residential modules and visits, which would fall to their unit’s T&S budget. The CO must agree to pay accommodation costs and T&S for applicants.

Academic Clearance


The Higher Education Provider confirms the individual’s academic suitability, sends the individual an acceptance letter and enrols the applicant in their course of study.

Administration


1. The names of those selected for the HDSP are published in the relevant MS Board results.

2. The CM issues an assignment order to the relevant administering unit for the duration of the course (if full-time).
