I always thought that the winner of Florida vs Alabama would play OU or Texas.  Now that OU is in the mix, it seems that Florida might not be a shoe-in for the big-game.

If Florida beats Alabama (likely IMO), that may not generate enough “computer credit” to overcome Texas in the BCS rankings.  With a Florida win over Alabama, and an OU win over Missouri…. OU moves to #1 and Texas possibly moves to #2 for a rematch of the RRS for the BCS Title.  Could Florida be left out altogether? Unbelievable!

Upon further review, I went back to the MFC archives (again, very well done Michael) and reviewed an exchange between yours truly and my fellow SEC-er. I re-read his very entertaining and well thought-out (but very unconvincing) diatribe about how Boise State should have been awarded a share of the 2006 BCS National Championship because (while Florida humiliated #1 Ohio State in the BCS Championship game) Boise State went undefeated and was the only Division I team to do so.

MG, what is your position on currently undefeated Utah and Boise State? Why no expressed disgust with their current BCS ranking that could leave both out of the championship game and one out of any BCS bowl? Where is your indignation about that? If Alabama beats Florida, shouldn’t Utah or Boise play in the BCS title game? If Florida removes Bama from the undefeated ranks, why are you not stepping forth and arguing that the undefeated winners of the Mountain West and Western Athletic conferences play for all the marbles in Miami?

I am somewhat dismayed by your silence.

Ok.  The gig is up…. We figured after all of this time, that you knew I was just pulling your leg to get an anticipated reaction and raise your ire that anyone would have the gall to compare the lowly Boise State Broncos to the Florida Gators.

We all assumed that you knew, or at a bare minimum, were highly suspect, of our little rouse, so we failed to set the record straight.  I am flummoxed that our little prank, while full of jocularity and youthful immaturity, was actually taken to heart by you.  To all of us, we played a little joke, laughed out loud (er LOL) and then moved on.  To now learn that you’ve been beating yourself up over this for over a year fills me with a deep sense of regret, and compassion.

None of us could ever imagine that you believed any of that due to its illogical and emotional temperament…I mean really, Boise State….National Champs?  Those four words go together like:  ‘OBAMA-Change we need.’

Admittedly, I’m a tad embarrassed that we have to clear the air now after all of this time.  Talk about the proverbial elephant…Yikes.

So on behalf of everyone here at the MFC, allow me to apologize to you for allowing this fraud to perpetuate for such a long time.

And to everyone else in the MFC, no need to “pile on” Ken here.  We don’t need callous e-mails filled with rancor like, “Are you serious Ken?  You really thought MG was promoting BSU?”  or “HA.  HA.  HA.  Ken.”  We’re all adults, and there is no need to rub someone’s nose in it.

Let us all be big people here, and try to act like Ken was in the know this entire time, and relegate his e-mail above to a spam message we never actually received…Wink, wink..

-A toast….To Ken…And to all teams residing in Mega-conferences…Here-Here!!

You are in the wrong line of work my friend.  Rick Reilly left SI a year ago....send in your resume....or perhaps this, piece/exchange as testament to your unmatched wit and a comedic, yet sophisticated joie de vivre writing style.   It is rare that I am simply in awe!   :-)
