RLP Framework

Based on a poll of member companies, the Ad Hoc group has decided to use a frame addressing scheme for the design of RLP 5.

Schedule

According to the original workplan, the Ad Hoc group is 6 weeks behind schedule. The members met via conference call on July 9, 1999 to revise the schedule and workplan as follows:

99.08.18 Feature close: deadline for determining which features are developed enough to include in the text

99.09.13 Complete Baseline Text for V&V

Merge Text with other MAC features (IS-2000-3-A)

99.09.16 V&V Complete

Editorial Revisions Completed

99.09.17 Text Ready for Ballot

Work items

The work items have been prioritized by the Ad Hoc Group to serve as a guide for member companies to focus their efforts and contributions.

Critical

  • Support for 2Mbps

  • Backward compatibility with RLP 2

  • New Frame formats

  • Flexible NAK schemes

  • Synchronous operation

Non-critical

  • RBP Enhancements

  • RLP Based power control

To be determined

  • Support for Multi-frame interleaving (longer PL frames)

Other issues

A group of member companies are proposing that the RLP 5 work developed in the Ad Hoc Group be submitted to TR45.5 as an enhancement to RLP 3. This proposal is being reviewed by TR45.5 WG I to determine the schedule requirements for such an enhancement.
