RULE 1 - RULES OF AWARDS
The Academic Senate of the University of Tasmania makes these rules under the University of Tasmania Act 1992 and Ordinance 13.
1. Commencement and revocation
1.1 These rules come into operation on 18 December 2007.
1.2 These rules replace Rule 1 (Rules of Awards) made by Academic Senate on 24 February 2006.
2. Definition

2.1 “award” means a degree, diploma or certificate referred to in the Table.

2.2 “course” means a program of study leading to an award.
3. Awards and courses
3.1 The Table sets out, in relation to each award -

  • the faculty or institute responsible for the award

  • the course code

  • the approved abbreviation

  • the notional minimum time for completion.




    1. The courses listed in Part 1 of the Table are current courses for which re-enrolments and new enrolments will be accepted.




    1. The courses listed in Part 2 of the Table are courses in teach-out, which means that there will be no new enrolments into those courses but that existing students in those courses will be able to re-enrol to enable them to complete.




    1. The inclusion of a unit in a handbook or course and unit database does not oblige the university, to teach that unit in any given year.
