Media Employment History
2013 - Present: Freelance Cameraman, Sheffield
I decided to go freelance in 2013 to focus on boosting my career independently. This was a huge step within my career as I could work for myself and concentrate on getting the work I really wanted. I have not looked back since going freelance and I really enjoy it. Being freelance has helped me, not only work independently but also improve my skills of liaising and communicating with potential clients. Sourcing work has become interesting and a challenge and it has become an extremely rewarding experience. I have improved my technical skills to stay up-to-date in an ever changing industry, creating visually exciting engaging videos. It is fulfilling to see how my work aids companies in promoting themselves and represents their message. Since going freelance I have also developed a strong desire to achieve more and progress within the video market.
2013 – Present: Freelance camera and editor, CMA Video, Birmingham
Working for an independent media company, I both film and edit corporate videos, working collaboratively with a small team to create exciting and engaging videos. This role has helped to build my confidence by working with a variety of clients and offering me a wider diversity of work.
2012 – 2013: Founder of ‘Hang About Media’ Productions, Sheffield
Having moved back to Sheffield in 2012, several colleagues and I set up a small media company in Sheffield, unfortunately this was only short lived as 2 of the founding members moved to London. However in the short amount of time we were operating as ‘Hang About Media’, we made videos for a number of large companies including Red Bull, Ted Baker and Exposed Magazine Sheffield. I worked as the cameraman/editor for this company but the experience of all working together gave me insightful experience in how to operate a small company. This also bolstered my interpersonal skills and enhanced my skills of working collaboratively within a team.
2010 – 2014: Cameraman/Editor, video producer, Chamber TV, Birmingham
I started at Chamber TV as an editor initially; however, after a few months was both filming and editing videos for them. Through Chamber TV I gained a vast amount of truly beneficial experience making videos for a wide range of companies, filming and editing promotional videos in all genres, sports, healthcare, education and the public sector. The fact that I was solely responsible for overseeing all aspects of production allowed me to develop not only my video producing skills but also my improve my interpersonal skills, liaising with clients.
2009: Work Experience, BBC ‘Midlands Today’, Birmingham
In 2009 I participated in a short period of work experience for BBC ‘Midlands Today’ in Birmingham. This was beneficial experience as I was able to see how a regional news corporation operated and was insightful to witness all the cogs come together. However from working here only for a short time, it made me realise that I wanted to work independently, for myself rather than for a large corporation.
2006 – 2011: Runner, various independent feature films
Over the years I have offered my services as a runner on several independent short films, mostly for the South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network but I also enjoy creating my own short films with fellow colleagues from university. Together we have written and produced several short films and I have been principle cameraman on all of them.
Interests & Hobbies
I enjoy creative writing, in particular short comedic pieces which I have directed and produced.
I love traveling and filming in new and exciting places, honing my camera and editing by creating short films of my travels, I am currently Czech to aid me on my adventures.
I am an avid sailor and have competed in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, placing third.
I am currently developing a personal project, interviewing ‘fascinating’ people including local scholars, academics, artists and musicians.
