Dear 6^th Grade Students and Families,

We are excited to offer a three day – two night field trip to Atlanta, Georgia this spring! This unique opportunity will allow students to learn about the history, culture, and current events in Atlanta, while also exploring geography. Students will also connect math, science and language arts as we visit many exciting places in Atlanta. We are thrilled that this trip will supplement the instructional, social and team building goals of the 6^th grade. This trip will take place on Wednesday, March 15th through Friday, March 17, 2017.

Students and teachers will take chartered buses and will travel with a company called Kannapolis Charters & Tours. Some of the attractions the students will visit are: CNN, Martin Luther King Jr., National Historic Site, Atlanta Zoo, World of Coca Cola, and the Georgia Aquarium. We will also go to a Braves game, watch a dolphin show at the Aquarium, and have a dance at the hotel. We will have private security to monitor the halls/rooms both nights. The cost of the trip is $345, which includes transportation, three meals per day (with the exception of breakfast and lunch on the first day of travel), all tour/entrance fees, and hotel accommodations (4 students per room). Students do not need additional money unless they wish to purchase souvenirs and additional food.

In order to ensure the safety of all participants, the following guidelines have been developed. Beginning August 29, 2016, a student will not be permitted to attend the field trip if he/she:

  Receives (1) Out of School Suspension between August 29^th – March 15, 2017 OR
  
• 
  Receives (2) In School Suspensions between August 29^th – March 15, 2017
  

We are looking forward to an exciting educational experience for our students. We want ALL eligible 6^th graders to attend this field trip.

If you would like to volunteer as a chaperone for this trip, you must be a registered volunteer in the CMS volunteer system under Piedmont Middle School. Chosen chaperones do not have to pay, but it is a very significant time and energy commitment. Although it will involve non-stop responsibilities, it is also a very fun, educational, and rewarding trip.
