PTO Meeting Minutes

May 17, 2017

  • Welcome and Introductions



  • Review and Approval of April Meeting Minutes



  • Principal’s Report



    • At this time, Alexis Corbin is still scheduled to be reassigned to Dover High School. NH State House and Senate are tentatively approving full day kindergarten. If this is fully approved, it could provide funding that may aid in Alexis’ return to WPS. Depending on how things play out, this issue may come back to the front burner over the summer.

    • A new district policy titled “Staff Conduct with Students” was adopted on May 8, 2017. Volunteers that are scheduled to be involved in offsite activities with students will need to sign this document.

    • Greg Brown was happy to report that they have earned a little over $600 from the staff paint night towards funding a school visit from Northeast Passage.



  • Reaching Higher NH, a nonprofit that supports public education with Jamie Saucier, director of school district engagement request parent participation in a State Board of Education meeting on Thursday, June 8th. They are in the initial stages of capturing data about parent engagement across the state.



  • Financials

    • Funds Requests

      • Second grade team is requesting $691.60 to pay for buses to a Fisher Cats game on Wednesday, 5/24

      • Second grade team is requesting $255 to pay for buses for their May 2nd field trip to The Music Hall. The Music Hall will reimburse the PTO under a grant. The field trip was paid for by the same grant as the kindergartners and first graders.

    • Financial Update

      • Ice Cream Social – The owners of the Atlantic Grill generously covered the cost of the ice cream for our Spring Ice Cream Social. Thanks so much to Mario Alcapia for arranging this along with our ICS coordinators

      • Ruth’s Reusables – As of April 27th, teachers from Woodman Park School have received $14,926.30 worth of supplies so far this year!

      • Our SEED donation for the auction included Microsoft Office, Minecraft for Xbox, 12 month Xbox Live Gold Membership, an Xbox water bottle, Xbox t-shirt and a journal.

      • Educator Appreciation Week expenses totaled $684. The week was a huge success and our educators are well worth it!

    • Fundraisers Reports

      • Red’s Race – we received a check for $3,570 from this year’s Red’s Race. Last year, we received $3,732.

      • We received $56.17 from Amazon Smile

      • $1,065.75 was made from our very successful Mother’s Day School Stores.



  • Upcoming Events

    • Third Grade Ellis Island Day – Friday, 5/19

    • SEED Casino Night – Friday, 5/19, 7-10pm at Redhook Brewery

    • SEED Online Auction – almost 100 items to bid on until Friday evening at 10pm

    • Panera Bread – Final Dine Out of the school year – Monday, May 22nd

    • Art To Remember fundraiser – Orders have been placed. Product to arrive beginning of June

    • Wentworth Spring Fundraiser – All orders were due by today. Flowers pickup will be next Thursday, 5/25 between 3:00 and 6:00

    • Fun Pass – All orders were due by 5/16. Books will be delivered next week.

    • Fun Day – tentatively scheduled for Friday, 6/16. More details to follow soon. Be on the lookout for plenty of opportunities to volunteer

    • Fourth Grade Graduation – Tuesday, 6/20

    • Last day of school for students is a ½ day on Wednesday, 6/21



  • Past Events

    • Red’s Race – April 9th – Thanks so much to all of the volunteers for making this event a success again this year!

    • Educator Appreciation Week was a huge success. Thanks so much to everybody who chipped in to make this fabulous for our amazing educators.

    • Bike To School Day on May 10th was a wonderful celebration of this national day. Congratulations to all of the kids who biked, walked and ran in this event.



  • Yearbooks have been ordered. Every fourth graders and each fourth grade teacher will receive a book. There will be a small number of extra copies for sale at the end of the year.



  • Volunteer Opportunities

    • Seeking two people to shadow Elyse and Rafaela for 2017-18 school year in preparation to take over School Store Fall 2018.



  • Reminder:  With regards to volunteering it is the district policy that all adults must be fingerprinted at least two weeks prior to chaperoning a field trip or volunteering in the building. Fingerprinting for volunteers is by appointment only between the hours of 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, at the SAU office. The cost is $20.75 and payable to the State of NH-Criminal Records.
