MINUTES FOR

WORTH COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

BOARD MEETING

HELD THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2015

AT WORTH COUNTY BOARD ROOM

AT 7:00 P.M.
The Worth County Board of Education met Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Worth County Board Room.
Chairman Jenkins called the meeting to order, gave the invocation, led the pledge to the flag and welcomed visitors.

All Board Members were present. Also in attendance was Kay Mathews, Ed. S., Superintendent of Schools, and Tommy Coleman, Board Attorney.


ADOPTION OF AGENDA
Randy Bacon made the motion to approve the agenda for November 19, 2015. Jerry Jones seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
SUPERINTENDENT’S RECOGNITIONS
Scott Chafin, WCHS Principal, recognized LTC Brian Lasseter. Mr. Chafin reported LTC Lasseter has done an outstanding job with the JROTC program and has brought some different aspects to the program.
LTC Lasseter introduced members of the 48th Brigade from Macon whom he had served with until he retired last year and took over the JROTC program at Worth County High School. LTC Chris Corley presented LTC Lasseter with the Legion of Merit award as a small token of appreciation for his four deployments and service to his country.
Commander Nathaniel Lowman of the Albany Young Marines recognized 11 year old Matthew Tobias, a Worth County Middle School student, as a member of the Young Marine program. Commander Lowman presented Matthew with a Certificate of Appreciation for his community service and praised his loyalty to his school and community.
BOARD ITEMS
Approval of appointing Randy Bacon as the Board GSBA Legislative Liaison for 2016.
William Oliver made the motion to appoint Randy Bacon as the Board GSBA Legislative Liaison for 2016. Jerry Jones seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.


OPEN AND AWARD BIDS
Opened the Diesel/Gasoline Bids. Bids were tabled until Farrell Lawrence, Transportation Director, could review them and determine if bid specs were met.
Jerry Jones made the motion to table bids. Melvin Jefferson seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Opened and awarded the Propane Bid to Modern Gas (the lowest responsible bidder meeting bid specs) in the amount of + - 1.099.
Jerry Jones made the motion to approve as presented. Randy Bacon seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Opened the Bus Bids. Bids were tabled until Farrell Lawrence, Transportation Director, could review them.
Jerry Jones made the motion to table the bids. Melvin Jefferson seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Randy Bacon made the motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. Melvin Jefferson

seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.


ADMINISTRATION
Approval of the Resolution to request assistance from the Georgia Department of Education in developing a new Five-Year Local Facilities Plan.
William Oliver made the motion to approve as presented. Randy Bacon seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Approval of a Resolution of the Board of Education of Worth County authorizing the call of a school bond election in and for the Worth County School District, to be held on March 1, 2016.
Randy Bacon made the motion to approve as presented. William Oliver seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Approval of the following items as surplus and non-usable by the Worth County School District.

These are old analog two-way radios that are not repairable and/or can’t be programmed to the narrow band frequency.
