British Multi-Sports Summer Camp
LEARN HOW TO PLAY TAG RUGBY, CRICKET, ROUNDERS, NETBALL, KICKBALL AND SOCCER!
The Westbrook Community Center has teamed up with Challenger Sports to host a week-long British Multi-Sports Camp that is designed to motivate, activate and energize boys and girls ages 5-13 with a memorable week of non-stop action, fun and competition!
The camp will run daily June 25-29 and will take place at the Westbrook Community Center at 426 Bridge Street. Sessions will be instructed by a member of Challenger’s British coaching staff flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs.
Real British coaches will teach children new British sports like Tag Rugby, Cricket, Soccer, Rounders, Kick Ball and Netball and develop new skills with team-building activities that include more than just running, jumping, catching, kicking and throwing. Campers will also learn about respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership - all with a British Twist!
Challenger has become the largest soccer camp provider in North America by combining consistently high-quality, age-specific soccer instruction, along with equally-important elements of character, cultural, and nutritional education.
Coaches will take time out of their busy weekly schedule to teach lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and leadership, and discuss how these core values relate to athletics family and school.
You do not need to be a Westbrook resident to participate. Kids from all surrounding communities are welcomed to attend. All skill levels are welcomed, too.

Art Summer Camp (Week #1)
Come explore your artistic side in the Westbrook Community Center's art studio! Campers will spend three hours each day, Monday-Thursday, working exclusively with art educators from the Westbrook community, including Abby Harmon Jacobs and Nancy Goan, on various art projects.
The JR session (ages 6-9) will be held in the morning, from 9 am-12 pm, and the SR session (ages 10-13) will be held in the afternoon, from 1-4 pm. When not in Art Camp, campers will join other campers at our Traditional Day Camp. Friday will be field trip day!
Lunch and snacks for campers will be provided Monday thru Thursday. They must pack their own for the Friday field trip.
Registration Fee = $175 per child
The curriculum will be different from the August 6 camp, so campers may register for both, if they wish.

DaVinci Moon Mission Summer Camp
Be part of a space agency team this summer at the Westbrook Community Center and role play a mission to the moon!
The DaVinci Moon Mission Camp for boys and girls in grades K-5 will be held daily, July 16-20, from 9 am-4 pm, and will offer campers the opportunity to experience what it takes to become and astronaut and explore outer space. There will be lots of hands-on experiments and projects throughout the week!
Registration Fee = $235
Camp will be run by Judy Crosby and other certified DaVinci Experience staff members.
Leonardo DaVinci is the inspiration for integrating science and art camp experiences at DaVinci Experience, where they bring science and art ALIVE for children. They explore exciting, in-depth themes through hands-on art activities, science experiments and outdoor games.
Their child-oriented curriculum encourages children to actively explore and experiment under the supervision of their certified teachers. Their experienced educators encourage critical thinking, problem solving and team building with an emphasis on safety and fun.
You do not need to be a Westbrook resident to attend camp. Children from Westbrook and all surrounding communities are welcomed to register.

“So You Think You Can Dance” Summer Camp
Does you child tap their toes constantly? Do you find them dancing around their room when they think no one is watching? Well, then, we have the camp for them! The "So You Think You Can Dance" Camp for boys and girls in grades K-5 will take place daily, July 23-27, from 9 am-4 pm, at Westbrook Community Center Stage.
Each day will be spent learning a new dance style (ballet, modern, jazz, and hip hop), nutrition, the relationship between music and dance, dancing with a partner and a group, and how to copy those awesome dance moves they see on TV! Daily activities will include: stretching, dance class, healthy snacks, craft time, performance showcase preparation, and a media viewing of great dance performers. At the end of the week, there will be a performance showcase for friends & family. Join us for a week of fun, learning, and dance appreciation!
Campers must bring their own lunch, snacks and water bottle.
Camp will be instructed by Julie Akers of Portland Music & Dance Academy. Julie began dancing at the age of 4 with the Academy of Ballet Arts in Marietta, GA, focusing on ballet and jazz techniques. In her teens, she moved to be with Tolbert-Yilmaz School of Dance in Roswell, GA, and joined their junior ballet and intermediate jazz competition companies. She also trained in their pre-professional program directly under Maniya Barredo of The Atlanta Ballet. While attending Pope High School, Julie joined the highly-decorated colorguard and received many local and national trophies, including a silver medal in 2000 at the Winter Guard International competition in Dayton, OH.
At Elon University, Julie took classes with instructors such as; Jane Wellford, Shouze Ma, Nina Wheeler (Miss NC Pageant’s choreographer), Gene Medler, Cherie Bower, and Rebecca Hutchins. Her training at Elon included dance and worship, dance history, improvisation, choreography, ballet, jazz, tap, partnering, and modern techniques. She graduated from Elon in 2005 with a B.A. in dance and human services. After graduation, Julie moved to Florida and joined the entertainment department of Walt Disney World. There she performed in “Mickey’s ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” show at the Magic Kingdom and the “Stars and Motorcars” Parade at MGM Studios. Upon returning to Georgia, Julie found her passion for teaching. While at Pope High School, she helped coach the winterguard program to bronze and silver medals at the WGI in Dayton, OH. The "So You Think You're a Musician" Camp for boys and girls in grades K-5 will take place daily, July 30-August 3, from 9 am-4 pm, at Westbrook Community Center Stage.
Each day will be spent learning a new music style (rock, jazz, r&b, funk, and blues), the relationship between music and dance, different rhythms, musical notation, and creating playable instruments. Daily activities will include: rhythm classes, music styles, healthy snacks, craft time, performance showcase preparation, and a media viewing of great music performers. At the end of the week, there will be a performance showcase for friends & family. Join us for a week of fun, learning, and dance appreciation!

Camp will be instructed by Chris Wilkes of Portland Music & Dance Academy. Born and raised in North Carolina, Chris was introduced to music at a young age. During his teens he found his passion in the drums and performed with local bands such as Earhole (Undefinable Records) and Undertow (Tool Tribute). Wanting to further his education and music experience, he moved to Atlanta, GA, where he received his Certification of Musicianship with honors from the Atlanta Institute of Music in 2006. At AIM, Chris’ training included reading, technique, theory, jazz, Latin, and funk Styles, programming, charting, studio, music business, recording, odd meter and rhythm dictation. While at AIM, Chris studied under Tom Knight (TLC), Creig Harber (The Drifters, The Platters), and Jack Jones (Sean Costello, The Mike Veal Band). Playing in bands such as Eden, Sam Thacker, Bain Mattox and Shot from Guns, Chris toured the southeast, northeast, mid-west, and Europe. While on tour, he played alongside national acts such as Sister Hazel, Seven Mary Three, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Marc Broussard, Cowboy Mouth, and The Freddy Jones Band. As a studio artist, Chris has worked with David Barbe (Drive By Truckers), John Keane (Widespread Panic and R.E.M.), and Russ Fowler (S.T.P. and Rage Against the Machine). He performed live at the Miss Teen USA 2010 Pageant at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas alongside Stormi Henley, the Miss Teen USA 2009 winner. Following graduation, Chris began teaching for Music & Arts in Alpharetta, GA, and the Instrumental Music Academy in Roswell, GA. He joined the Live it Live! cast at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, played in the main sanctuary at Mt. Bethel, and has put on clinics with Jason Chapman of Big Rip Records and Ryan Newell of Sister Hazel. Chris moved to Portland, ME, in the fall of 2011. He is excited to join the music scene and share his knowledge with others through his work with Portland Music & Dance Academy. Lego Robotics Summer Camp
Learn how robotics work! The Lego Robotics Summer Camp for children in grades 3-8 will run daily, August 13-17, from 8:30 am-3:30 pm, at the Westbrook Community Center.
Campers will work in small groups to design, build, and program LEGO robots. Every day, time is set aside to learn about engineering and robotics. Find out how engineers work to solve problems and help people in day-to-day living.
Engineers work in all kinds of fields, including health care, manufacturing, transportation, product design - there are even Ketchup Engineers!
Participants will each receive a FREE camp t-shirt.
Camp will be instructed by certified Maine Robotics staff members. Maine Robotics, housed in Orono, ME, was created in 2004 to meet the growing needs of the educational-robotics community in Maine.
Their mission is to promote growth and interest in the sciences of engineering and computers; to provide opportunities to instruct teachers, coaches, and mentors in the skills necessary to in turn mentor and teach the youth of Maine. Maine Robotics seeks to provide a supportive, mentoring atmosphere for teachers wishing to pursue advancement in the sometimes daunting world of engineering and computer science. Maine Robotics also seeks to provide a supportive system for children and youth to learn more about engineering and computer science in an energetic, educational manner.
Maine Robotics works with over 1,200 children, youth and adults each year in STEM-related educational opportunities. Since it’s
founding in 2004, over 5,000 children have participated in the Maine Robotics programs. In Maine's world of higher education, Maine Robotics partners with the University of Southern Maine (School of Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology), the University of Maine's School of Engineering, The Maine 4H program, the Maine Girl Scout Council, The Maine Maritime Academy, and the University of Maine at Farmington's Department of Computer Science. Maine Robotics also works with community programs and schools across the State to bring these activities to as far-reaching a population as possible.
Tom Bickford is the President and Director of Maine Robotics. Tom has operated the FIRST LEGO League in Maine since 2000 and has operated and administered Summer Robotics Programs since 2002. A former educator here in the state, Tom has degrees in both Biology and Biomedical Engineering and can bring both the knowledge and the excitement to the children and youth he works with.

Westbrook Soccer League and the Westbrook Community Center have again teamed up with Challenger Sports to host a week-long British Soccer camp for boys and girls ages 3-13 during the week of August 20-24, 2012. The camp will take place at the Westbrook Community Center fields at 426 Bridge Street. The camp will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s British coaching staff flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs.

Each day the children will practice and master new individual skills and understand small group and team tactics through Challenger’s innovative camp curriculum. Campers will also scrimmage each day in the always popular "Camp World Cup"!
The Challenger coaching staff believes that teaching silky soccer skills is only a part of the process of educating young athletes. The coaches will also take time out of the busy weekly schedule to teach lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and leadership, and discuss how these core values relate to soccer, family and school.
The most popular part of each camp is the "Camp Word Cup". The coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about life, customs, and traditions of other countries. The campers are asked to make up cheers, bring flags, dress up, and learn as much as they can about the country they represent.

DaVinci Crime Lab Summer Camp
Learn how detectives solve crimes! Find fingerprints, analyze fibers and soil, and experiment with chromatotography as you work with a team to solve Westbrook's greatest mysteries! The DaVinci Crime Lab Camp will run daily, August 20-24, from 9 am-4 pm, at the Westbrook Community Center. This is the week before school begins, and there will be no Traditional Day Camp offered at the Center.
The Crime Lab Camp will offer lots of hands-on experiments and projects throughout the week as kids in grades K-5 work to become the next CSI!
