Leonardo DaVinci is the inspiration for integrating science and art camp experiences at DaVinci Experience, where they bring science and art ALIVE for children. They explore exciting, in-depth themes through hands-on art activities, science experiments and outdoor games. Their child-oriented curriculum encourages children to actively explore and experiment under the supervision of their certified teachers. Their experienced educators encourage critical thinking, problem solving and team building with an emphasis on safety and fun.

You do not need to be a Westbrook resident to attend camp. Children from Westbrook and all surrounding communities are welcomed to register.

No-Sweat Equity (Benefits of Aquatic Exercise)
Given all of the new exercise crazes out there, such as Zumba®, Bootcamp, P90X and Cross-Fit, many people are missing a great way to exercise – Aqua-Fit classes. Unlike the above-mentioned (which, by the way are, great forms of exercise, too), aquatic (water) exercise offers something that none of them can; it’s suited for EVERYONE, regardless of fitness level.
When most people think of water exercise, their minds go directly to the monotonous and sometimes boring lap swim. The good news is that there’s more to water exercise than just laps. Classes like Water Aerobics and Aqua-Fit Running offer a fun, yet challenging alternative to laps. Again, these classes are for everyone. If you are suffering from injuries to the joint and/or muscle, or can not walk and exercise long enough to see significant calorie burn, you’ll have a much easier time working out because these exercises are low to no impact. This is because your body is approximately 90% buoyant, which means you only feel 10% of your body weight in the water. Why is this beneficial? With low to no impact exercising, there is less wear and tear on the joints, which makes exercising easier on the body.
So where does the No-Sweat Equity come from? Since water is a cooling agent, you’re less likely to sweat, and the sweat you do produce is washed away instantly. Now you’re asking yourself, how do I burn calories if I’m not sweating? Water is more resistant than air; just walking in water can take up to 17x more effort. Because every movement you make in the water takes that much more effort, you get that much more in return. Not only are you working on cardiovascular, but strengthening and toning the body will occur as a result of the resistance. This extra effort means that not only can you burn more calories during the exercising, but you sustain a longer calorie burn after, as well.

The "Hit Pit" – Indoor Batting Cages

Located in the old Exercise Room, on the back side of the building just beyond the Gym, the Westbrook Community Center's new multi-use facility will provide baseball and softball players of Westbrook the opportunity to hit, pitch and train at an extremely affordable price.

Cages can be rented in 30-minute increments at the following rate: $15 per cage. Primary hours of operation for the cages will be Monday-Friday, 4-8 pm, and Saturday-Sunday, 8 am-12 noon. Additional hours may be available by special request. To view the current schedule of cage rental availabilities, please visit www.westbrookcommunitycenter.org.

To inquire or to make a reservation, please e-mail Greg Post at gpostfc14@gmail.com (preferred) or call 854-0676, ext. 265. 24 hours notice required for all cage rentals. Cash, credit or checks made out to City of Westbrook are accepted. Only one reservation at a time. An additional reservation may be made at the conclusion of a current reservation.

Players must sign a liability waiver. Balls will be provided, as will a bat and helmet, if needed, but players are allowed to bring their own. No cleats allowed; gym shoes only. Payment must be received in full at time of reservation.

Private lessons, group outings and birthday parties may also be booked in the cages for very low prices! And, don't forget, our gym and/or pool may be added for an additional fee to any cage session, based on availability.
