Uganda

Uganda is a land-locked country in East-Central Africa that is bordered by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan and Tanzania.95 Economic growth in Uganda is largely rooted in agriculture; however, variability in climate over the past two decades has led to extreme weather events, including drought, flooding and landslides. Resultant damage to natural resources has slowed economic growth. Although agriculture is important to the Ugandan economy, the share of agriculture in Uganda’s GDP has decreased from a high of nearly 80 percent in the 1970s to a low of just over 20 percent in 2008. The population of Uganda was estimated at 31.8 million in 2010 and it has been increasing at a rate of 2.8-3.4 percent since 1960.96
