LIBRA – THE ANTHROPOLOGICAL TYPE OF WEST MEDITERRANIDS

Astrologers describe Libra’s appearance in the following words:

“Appearance: Well built, usually handsome, proportionate body, normally pretty face with good complexion, expressive eyes, dark or hazel.“ (The Society of the Astrologers of Yugoslavia, Meet Astrology and Yourselves, pg 89)

“Slender, elegant, oval moist face, transparent tan, well sculptured eyelids, eyes honestly open, both sides are proportionate, natural, unaffected, charming, beautiful.“ (Mile Dupor, Do not believe it, Check it, pg 82)

"Elegance may be said to express in one word the physical peculiarities of the Libran. The body is slender and graceful in youth..." (Max Heindel & Augusta Foss Heindel, The Message of the Stars, pg 61)

Anthropologists use the same words to describe the appearance of the Mediterranean anthropological type. The German anthropologist Egon von Eickstedt claims that:

"The Mediterraneans represent, in their constitution, the most delicate and elegant, and also the most strongly pigmented of the European races. The features are more regular and harmonious than they are in the Nordics; the body, of low stature, is slender and well-proportioned, not stocky as in the Alpine race; the big and brilliant black eyes give to the face a vivacious expression." (Rassenkunde und Rassengeschichte der Menschheit)

Our famous anthropologist Božo Škerlj on the Mediterranids:

Astrologers recognized noticeable sociability in Libra:

"Towards the surrounding – sociable. They appreciate a friend. They can put themselves in the position of the weak ones. Virtues: tact, accessibility for everyone... They like people. Cooperate easily.” (Mile Dupor, Do not believe it, Check it, pg 83-84)

Anthropologists recognized the same attributes as the traits of the Mediterranids:

"Mediterranids are hospitable and sociable." (Dr Branimir Maleš, On Human Races, Belgrade, 1936)

Astrologers also noticed Libra’s need to be liked by others:

"Approbativeness is a distinctly Venus-Libra characteristic. Libra "likes to be liked," and will often do much and go to great lengths in order to obtain and go to great lengths in order to obtain and keep the approval of others." (Charles, E.O. Carter, Encyclopedia of Psychological Astrology, pg 35)

"They like harmony, style, flowers, parades, gentlemanly behavior, children, art, poetry. Disarm with nice words. Keep their private things from going public, and are in pain if they offend somebody. They fear criticism." (Mile Dupor, Do not believe it, Check it, pg 83-84)

"There is a nice anecdote in the form of a comment which greatly illustrates their psychological profile and character, then their expression of style, temperament and behavior. A man describes his love partner to a friend: "You know, I get the feeling that she (Libra) has fun or in her own way flirts with the whole world. She is trying to be liked by everything that lives on this earth, everything that walks or has two legs, and most of the time she is successful in what she does, but how she does it - that's a mystery to me." The anthropologists Vladimir Dvorniković and Hans Günther describe the same need as characteristic of the Mediterranean anthropological type:

"A Mediterranean wants to use his appearance, posture and gesticulation primarily to personally express themselves, show themselves and be liked." (Vladimir Dvorniković, Characterology of Yugoslavs, pg 187)

"Takes great joy in the spoken word and in pleasing and lively movements; and is inclined to find suppleness and craft particularly worthy of interest and praise. ... The Mediterranean man is eloquent, often a skilled orator, not seldom he is (at least for the Nordic observer) talkative and somewhat superficial." (Hans Günther, The Racial Elements of European History, pg 56)

The need to be liked forms an exquisite ability to estimate things and phenomena by their external value. Speaking of this attribute with the Mediterranids, anthropologist Branimir Maleš points out:

"They can judge things and phenomena by their true value." (Dr Branimir Maleš, On Human Races, pg 37)

The same Mediterranean trait was recognized by astrologers as Libra's attribute:

“They possess a great ability of perceiving, clearly and objectively seeing people and circumstances around them. They are capable of seeing things from various perspectives and picking the optimal solution to the problem." (The Society of the Astrologers of Yugoslavia, Meet Astrology and Yourselves, pg 87-88)

Superficiality in relation with other people, which ends only in flattering words, without willingness to practically sacrifice for them, was described by astrologers as Libra's trait:

"They know how to hear out the people, they even give a smart and reasonable advice, but have no desire or patience to personally engage or immerse themselves in resolving the problem." (The Society of the Astrologers of Yugoslavia, Meet Astrology and Yourselves, pg 91)

The anthropologist Hans Günther claims that the Mediterranids are characterized by laziness:

"The Mediterranean man is not very hard-working, often he is lazy; he likes to enjoy life the more." (Hans F.K. Günther, The Racial Elements of European History, pg 56)

Laziness is definitely a characteristic of a major part of ex-Yugoslav population, where the Dinarians and Mediterranids are the most common anthropological types. The anthropologist Vladimir Dvorniković wrote the following about the laziness of a Yugoslav man:

"Patriarchal and epic heroic man will employ all his strengths in the moment of emergency and will commit acts which will impress the world. When cornered by calamity, a Yugoslav man will employ miraculous energy and effort. 'When the lazy becomes a squire, he will set the world on fire". But after that there is a suspicious apathetic rest; not even the simplest everyday activities can set him in motion. The fighter breathes only within great amplitude: extreme effort or extreme leisure, he can soar high or dwell in deep lethargy." (Vladimir Dvorniković, Characterology of Yugoslavs, pg 667)

The astrologer Linda Goodman describes Libra's laziness in the same fashion:

"The Sun sign itself is known as Lazy Libra, and that's another inconsistency. For days, weeks or months on end, Librans can be too busy to play. They'll burn gallons of midnight oil, then rise and shine in time to hear the rooster crow. It wears you out just to watch them. Suddenly, they'll plop down into a chair, say, "I'm bushed," and give the best imitation of laziness you've ever seen (especially after all that frenzied activity). Once they've plopped, you won't catch them moving a muscle if they can help it. It will be an effort for them to pick up a spoon or raise a glass (though they will manage). If there's anyone around who's willing, they'll expect to be waited on, hand and foot. When the scales have dipped down toward lethargy, you couldn't move Libra with a steam shovel. Hell talk, read, yawn, snooze, watch TV or stare out the window, and seem barely able to make it into the bedroom." (Sun Signs, pg 261-262)

This explanation of laziness can be put in other words, without sugarcoating. As they are by nature irresponsible and lazy, only necessity can set a Mediterranean to work. Work and diligence are not natural to them, but represent a type of stress\, which they often complain about as if work is something unnatural. In order to have a motive to work, Mediterraneans tend to use their vanity, eliciting a competitive spirit in themselves, which may lead them to achieve impressive business undertakings. Moved by fanatical motives, they can for a moment demonstrate incredible zeal, but when the immediate motive for work is lost, they return to their natural state. The proof that work and diligence are not a product of their natural motives lies in the fact that they are only diligent and hard-working while at work, but no so when they come home, unlike some other populations which demonstrate the same sort of diligence in all situations. Laziness is the characteristic of all those types which are anthropologically (genetically and psychologically) close to the Mediterranids, with all of them possessing a huge Ego, these others being all the remaining branches of the Mediterranids, the Dinaric and Cro-Magnon anthropological types (so-called “male“ signs).

People with huge Ego ask their Ego for permission whenever they ought to start an activity which is a response to the reasonable need of life, asking it whether or not they have motives to fulfill the responsibility. For instance, if they should wash the dishes after a meal, the persons belonging to this type will first ask themselves whether they feel like washing up. If their Ego does not feel like it, they will actually have difficulty doing so.

As there is more than one Mediterranean type, we will refer to this one as the West Mediterranean anthropological type. West Mediterranids are most common in Sardinia, among the Basques, Italians, and south French, in Peloponnese, Greece, the West Balkans and among south Romanians. In our area, they are most common in Montenegro seaside, Kosovo, eastern Serbia and Banat (in the area of Zeta-Lovcen and Kosovo-Resava dialects). They are characterized by the genetic marker of the antigen HLA-B18.

The analysis of the structural proximity of the antigen HLA-B18 with other antigens reveals that the West Mediterranean anthropological type is a close genetic brother of the Dinarians (Aries) and East Mediterranids (Pisces), but the analysis of its Y chromosome (HG-E) shows that, through the male line, they have origins in one branch of the Semites (Scorpio) close to the Jews and Arabs.

What can we recognize in West Mediterranids (Libra), which is close to the Semites (Scorpio)?

The Semites, capable merchants as they are, have a gift to persuade their customer to buy their merchandize, but, while the gift serves Semites’ exploitations, it serves the vanity of West Mediterranids. West Mediterranids brag, not for a successful sale, but in order to get others' approval. The history of the occurrence of Libra confirms the connection between West Mediterranids and the Semites:

“Three thousand years ago astrologers separated Libra as an individual constellation because up to then it was an extension of Scorpio, Scorpio's claws, to be precise." (The Society of the Astrologers of Yugoslavia, Meet Astrology and Yourselves, pg 87)

Linda Goodman also talks about Libra’s power of manipulation:

"Still, I must warn you that once you're caught and enmeshed in the Libran charm, it won't be easy to break away." (Linda Goodman, Sun Signs, pg 268)

The very definition of Libra and its meaning reveals compromise, which is a consequence of their vain fear of confronting other people. Astrologers state the following about the psychological type of Libra:

"You believe in compromise, which makes you a good diplomat. You love beauty and refinement. ... Charming and companionable." (Marion D March and Joan McEvers, The Only Way to Learn Astrology, Volume I, pg 85) "Libra hates to hurt anyone's feelings; He hates to say: No!" (Linda Goodman, Sun Signs, pg 271)

In their promenades we can notice their pose through "an established look“ on their faces, which often resemble the ones of puppets, expressing their vain weakness. The whole area of their geographical prevalence is characterized by a tribal way of thinking which nowadays represents a foundation for the formation of mob clans. West Mediterranids, that is, Libras, carefully weigh up the pressure of power authorities or majority expectations on one hand, and all the things they would lose if they justly stood up to them on the other, and then make a “diplomatic compromise“. They sacrifice the principles of integrity and justice for their own narrow-minded vain interests, and when they read the horoscope, they are vain to recognize themselves as good diplomats:

"Not even Solomon in all his wisdom could top a typical Libran's final, balanced decision." (Linda Goodman, Ibid, pg 273)

"Regardless of what they really think, they always say what people want to hear, except when they get involved in disputes where they stick to their own attitude which is not necessarily an objective one." (The Society of the Astrologers of Yugoslavia, Meet Astrology and Yourselves, pg 91)

"They find it hard to say "No", or to take a firm attitude in the face of hostility, and tend to avoid unpleasantness at all costs. Hence they compromise too much, "sit on the fence", and waver from one view to another without giving a downright reply which would commit them to one course." (Charles E.O. Carter, Principles of Astrology, pg 74-75)

As West Mediterranids are most common in Italy (especially the southern area), it is understandable that the stereotypes various nations have about Italians, namely, them being arrogant, superficial, immature, prone to flirting, mafia, etc. actually reveal the character of West Mediterranids, and thus the psychological type of Libra. Naturally, in order to get a clear, objective picture about them in our minds, we need to eliminate the Semite (Scorpio) elements from these stereotypes, because they are quite mixed with West Mediterranids, especially in the south of Italy and in Sicily.

In all the areas where West Mediterranids are dominant in population, their speech is colored with a pronounced melodic accentuation, with the melody and speech rhythm typical of Italians. We can find it in the suburban settlements southeast from Belgrade (the so-called "village" speech) and in the whole area of Kosovo-Resava and Zeta-Lovcen dialects: in the area from Vrsac in Banat, through eastern and southern Serbia, Kosovo, eastern Montenegro, to the Montenegro seaside. It is normal that one uses melody in their sentences to show emotions adequate to what they are talking about. However, peoples with a melodic word accentuation reveal one and the same melody which they repeat regardless of what they are talking about. This means that the emotion behind their speech is not a consequence of an objective notion about reality in their minds, because the melody would change adequately to the current emotions matching the reality, but the typical melody is a consequence of their huge Ego.

To be more precise, West Mediterranids (typical Italian) have the accentuation and intonation that reveal their desire to be liked by others and also their fear of losing the approval. In brief - the message they are conveying, saturated with the desire to charm others and maintain their approval at all costs, is: “Don’t touch me, I’m ‘the man’!“ This motive is so strong that West Mediterranids are characterized not only by a specific melody of speech, but the melody we recognize in their speech is a feature of their ethnic music, the music that includes various genres. The revolutionary song "Bandiera Rosa“ contains a similar motif as the pop song "Marina, Marina". When there is a multitude of West Mediterranids in one place, they will naturally strive to speak with their original accentuation., However, even when they are as individuals surrounded by a population of different origin and character, they will to some extent reveal their character through speech, particularly in two instances: when the person possesses a huge Ego, so the surrounding factor has little influence on them, or when under stress. It is interesting how astrologers noticed that the Zodiac sign of Libra speaks with the accentuation which would, according to our conclusion, correspond to West Mediterranids. Charles Carter writes about Libra’s speech that it is: "Soft, but often peevish, drawling and affected." (Charles, E.O. Carter, Encyclopedia of Psychological Astrology, pg 168)

Melodic accentuation is also characteristic of the remaining anthropological types which are genetically close to West Mediterranids, with the exception that each type has a different melody which reveals its psychological type: the Dinarians (Aries) speak in a proud, peremptory and harsh manner, Cro-Magnons (Sagittarius) speak with a disharmonic intonation, East Mediterranids (Pisces) speak with elements of depression (similar to Latin Americans, Indians and Palestinians), and Atlantic Mediterranids (Leo) speak with a specific melody that raises its tone (similar to the people of Niksic and Split and North-East Chinese). Even the Alpids (Virgo), who are anthropologically totally different from the aforementioned types, speak with the (stretched) elements possessed by the East Mediterranids (Pisces). Unlike the Dinarians, Cro-Magnons and all branches of the Mediterranids, which are characterized by melodic word accentuation, the remaining populations (the Semites, Nordids, Finno-Ugric and Mongols) in their pure form are characterized by dynamic accentuation (a word is pronounced with strokes and no melody). Dynamic accentuation can be identified in the speech of the urban population of the West Balkans, which, influenced by Islamic entity, maintained a large number of Slavs, the original members of the Nordic anthropological type. For example, instead of melodic “slanina“ we will hear the dynamic (stroked) pronunciation of the word as “slan’na“.
