BRECKER Randy USA trumpeter. Member of ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears’ (1967), Horace Silver Quintet (1968-70 and 1971-72) and Art Blakey’s ‘Jazz Messengers’ (1972) With brother Michael had success with jazz group ‘The Brecker Brothers’. Recordings include ‘Score’ (Blue Note 82202) In the ‘Idium’ (Denon 33CY-1483)

BROMILOW Georgina UK trumpeter resident in Manchester. Formerly with Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra. Currently lead trumpet with the Andy Prior Orchestra

BROWN Clifford USA jazz trumpeter and composer. Compositions include ‘Dahood’, ‘Joyspring’ and ‘Sandu’. Co-lead a band with Max Roach. Considered one of the greatest jazz players of all time. Only known footage of Clifford Brown appears in 1955 film ‘Soupy Sales’ Killed in a car crash in 1956 at the age of 26. Recordings include; ‘A Study in Brown’ (Emarcy 814646) ‘The Beginning and the End’ (Columbia/Legacy 66491)

BROWN Lawrence Born 7th March 1905. One of the great swing trombonists. Having spent so much time with the Duke Ellington's Orchestra his playing tends to be underrated. Brown’s initial solos with Ellington upset some of Duke's fans because it was feared that his virtuosity did not fit into a band where primitive effects and mutes were liberally utilized. But over time, Brown established his own place in the Ellington Orchestra.

BROWN Ray USA bass player. Born 13th Oct 1926 Died 2nd July 2002 One of the world’s top bass players. Married at one time to Ella Fitzgerald. Worked with Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Oscar Peterson and many more.


BRUBECK Dave Born on 6 December 1920 in Concord, California, is equally distinguished as composer and pianist. His experimental Jazz Workshop Ensemble recorded in 1949 as the Dave Brubeck Octet. In 1958, Brubeck, drummer Joe Morello, double bassist Eugene Wright, and alto sax player Paul Desmond quickly achieved an overwhelming popular success as the Dave Brubeck Quartet. The Quartet's experimentation with time signatures unusual to jazz produced works like Blue Rondo a la Turk and Take Five, introducing millions of enthusiastic young listeners to unexplored regions of jazz. The group recorded and performed together continuously through 1967. In the last 20 years, he has organized several new quartets and continued to appear at the Newport, Monterey, Concord, and Kool Jazz Festivals. Brubeck performed at the White House in 1964 and 1981 and at the 1988 Moscow summit honoring the Gorbachevs. He is the recipient of four honorary degrees, the BMI Jazz Pioneer Award, and the 1988 American Eagle Award presented by the National Music Council.

BUSH Irving R. Mouthpiece designer born and raised in California. Hs played on recordings with Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, George Shearing, Barbara Streisand and many more. Author of Artistic Trumpet Technique and Study. Also been design and research consultant for several trumpet manufacturers.

CACIA Paul California based trumpeter and endorsee of Marcinkiewicz trumpet mouthpiece with custom-made mouthpiece. Recordings include ‘Quantum Leap’

CALLET Jerome New York based trumpet and mouthpiece expert, trumpet teacher and author. Factory and studio on Staten Island New York.

CALVERT Eddie Born in Preston, Lancashire UK on 15th March 1922. Known as the Man with the Golden Trumpet. Hit records included ‘Oh Mein Papa’ ‘Cherry Pink and Blossom White’ and ‘Il Silenzio’. Died in South Africa ins 1978.

CALVERT Lisa Widow of UK trumpeter Eddie Calvert. Known as ‘The Man With the Golden trumpet’. Lisa is resident in Johannesburg where she lived with Eddie before his death.

CANDOLI Conte USA jazz trumpeter. Former member and featured soloist of ‘Stan Kenton Orchestra’, ‘Woody Herman Orchestra’, ‘Tonight Showband’ and many of the world’s top jazz orchestras. Recordings include ‘Portrait of a Count’ (Fresh Sound 5015) ‘Conte-Nutty’ (Fresh Sound 5028)

CANDOLI Pete USA jazz trumpeter. Older brother of Conte. Member of ‘Woody Herman Orchestra’ and many of the world’s top big bands. Recordings include ‘Blues When Your Lover Has Gone’ (Somerset 17200) ‘The Brothers Candoli’ (MCA/Impulse 29064)

CARTY Chris UK. Amateur trumpeter based in Wigan UK. Plays with ‘Sounds 2000 Big Band’, ‘Ronnie Moore Big Band’, ‘Art Lester Big Band’

CASS Al Model of USA mouthpiece used by Dizzy Gillespie.

CHASE (the band) USA nine-piece jazz rock band of the ‘60s led by Bill Chase, featuring four trumpets and following in the tradition of ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears’.

CHASE Bill USA trumpeter and bandleader Lead with the Woody Herman Orchestra and renowned for his high register work. Killed in a plane crash in 1974. Recordings include ‘Chase’ (Epic 30472)

CHATTAWAY Jay American composer. Prolific writer of film scores including the them from ‘Rocky’. Big band pieces include Superbone Meets the Badman’ written for Maynard Ferguson.

CHEATHAM Doc USA trumpeter. Worked with Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, (1966-67) Resident at New York’s Sweet Basil’s throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s. Recordings include: ‘Duets and Solos’ (Sachville 5002) ‘Swingin’ Down in New Orleans’ (Jazzology 233)
