After hearing about the decent pompano bite yesturday, I decided to go early this morning. Starting fishing at 6:30 am. First cast (with fleas) bam, first nice pompano within 5 mins. Next cast, before I got the slack out of the line, bam, another nice pompano. Third cast, you guessed it, bam again, third nice pompano.

As i was heading toward the tee saw some pomps coming up, but decided to fish for some snapper. First bait out got a 17" mutton, and my dad missed a nice run. Another guys there missed a few runs of his own. Didn't really catch anything excluding bait after that. Two Macs were landed and that's pretty much it. Bait was pretty easy to come by, snagging hoos under the pier, and then a nice school of jumbo gogs came by before I left.
Sunday morning the Pomps were solid, Macks were by the T. and also the view from the pier for the launch of the space shuttle at 7:43PM was increible. I was only there from about 7 till 10:30 a.m., but the pomps started hitting fleas around 9:00. I thought they would have started earlier, but I guess not. There would be two or three at once, and then a lull for about 30 minutes, as they apparently swam "through" the pier, on their way north. Then the next group would hit a line or two. Saw a nice bonefish caught and released. This guy's reel started screaming and he says, "I
fished this am 5am till about 8am....pomps came about 6:45, saw about 15 or so in that window and the bite shut off.....could be there again this afternoon?? Wind ESE above 12mph water looked great....I bet macks were there too...nobody fishing for them when I left. by swordafishy » Thu Mar 19, 2009 9:14 pm walked out there the past two days in the crappy weather.... lots of bait...ballyhoo yesterday... gogs came in thick this afternoon and were bugging fairly easy.... couple of croakers and snook in the surf... pretty clear water... saw a family from kansas while i was bugging catch a nice yellowtail... and donk hogfish i helped them gaff!... all on their dead shrimp and rental rods! I didn't catch any, but I did see them caught. by BigBoiFishing » Sun Mar 22, 2009 3:58 pm Dania I went Friday with three of my neighbors, 830am - 730pm. I spent an hour getting live sardines close to the entance, there were hardly any, more mojarras than anything. The ballyhoos came in thick in the afternoon, they were hanging out under the tee for the rest of the time we there. Thats it in regards to the bait. In the morning I saw a nice Mackeral hit the tee, caught on a bucktail I think. After that one of my neighbors got a Yellowtail on a chunk of herring, it was legal @ 12" exactly. I saw another Mackeral caught on a live ballyhoo. Another one of my neighbors managed a YT, legal @ 12" as well. I lost one but from my distance I saw it to be undersized. That was the last bit of action I got for the whole day. I used live bally 4 bait for the rest of the day & nothing. One of my neighbors got lucky again and landed a 16" Mutton. which caused the entire tee to pull out their measuring devices. Even after it was confirmed to be 16", one guy got there and stuck his hand in my cooler and pulled it out to measure it on his own little ruler, threw it back in the cooler after he was satisfied & continued on about his fishing. I have a ruler on my cooler, know the rules & follow them, but that shiz pissed me off. The whole tee confirmed its legality but buddy had to go through my cooler to confirm my neighbors catch being legal, very uptight. I saw him trying to fish for Pompano. There was this elderly asian fellow that was reeling in TWO Pomps on a pomp rig & the only proper pier etiquette that little buddy could offer was "YOU BETTER NOT TANGLE UP WITH MY LINE!" by West Coast Fisherman » Sat Mar 21, 2009 8:33 pm ^I did in the morning few snook in the surf at sunrise. I was given a pompano, thankfully, the only one I got. I couldn't have bought a bite if I tried today, I used a pomp rig with fleas, shrimp, I used a jig tipped with fleas and shrimp, I just couldnt catch a pompano today, no matter what I did. fished afternoon till 10pm, heard reports that people limited out on pomps starting at 6 am by the time i got there at 3 they weren't running thick, but consistent until a little before sunset, with the occasional good run of them bluefish were caught in the morning as well water was green with rain water, strong curent and wind going south on my way out i met teem whipped's arch nemesis team rebel. i still dont get the whole team thing, probably just an excuse to wear matching uniforms 
ended up with three nice pomps all caught with shrimp on bottom, and 4 small ladyfish thrown back, will definitaly use for bait next time Tommy 
by mmcauliffe » Wed Mar 25, 2009 8:23 am OK, I'm pretty excited here. Been asking some of you guys and gals questions on how to start this saltwater fishing. Well, my first time out AND my first report.... I had my line in the water just before 7A and just before 8A I was packing up with 6 nice Pomp's in my cooler!!!! WOOOOOT! Caught them on a basic Pomp rig (3 hooks) and frozen fleas. At one point I had two on at the same time but one shook loose. Every fish was a keeper. I broke a hook on fish #5 but tossed the rig back in with two hooks, not 5 min's later I had my limit. Thanks for all the advise to those that took the time to answer my noooobie questions, you know who you are Guys all around me were doing well on both Pomp rigs and Jiggin'. by pier-afficionado » Wed Mar 25, 2009 11:25 am If you were not out there today, well then too bad for you  First time out in a while and boy a good day was picked. Went out with Snappersnatcher, we could have limited out on pomp within 30 minutes after sunrise but we threw back any fish under 15. I must have released close to 20 pomps in the 12-15inch range and I know Snappersnatcher released a whole bunch too. Limits were gotten by everyone who was pompano fishing. Jigs, bottom pomp rigs, didn't matter. Got to test my new light penn 260 slammer (thanks Paulieboy for the recomendation that day at BPS) on my new carbon fiber extension split grip, mudhole graphite 10-14lb rod. Performed like a champ and had 2 nice pomps give a nice tussle making the reel make that noise that drives us nuts. Saw Jamel, and Poseidon out there, who also limited out in short order. Lots of nice size pomps caught in the 3-5lb range. Not one pomp came over the rail that was NOT a keeper. Leave your lawsticks at home, there are plenty of big ones to catch that don't need measuring. The MAN was also out there checking coolers today, nice to see, so remember your regs and limits. Beautiful morning, left them biting. There are still there so if you can make it out this afternoon good chance you can score some pomps. For reference the split grip from butt to the reel seat is 14 inches, you do the math Was nice to actually go fishing for a change.

Pomps have been there every morning this week, educated guess they will be there tomorrow morning and yes the bite should be there this evening before dark as mentioned by PA. Blues, Sand Perch, Croakers and also Flounder The water is great and the fish have been pushing against the current so I do believe we may get a North running current tomorrow and it should be a FIRE Ticket. Just all remember only one bottom rod for Pompano and Yes you can still jig for them, this rule is so all enjoy themselves and you don't have to tend to entangling Mess and spending most of your time detangling or loss of rigs and fish. 3-25 Great morning bite at Dania by hoser » Wed Mar 25, 2009 10:02 pm I had a blast. Caught my limit. Gave some fish away. Had some really good laughs with Rebel and Saltwater Extravaganza, amongst other regulars. TY Jamel13 and Poseiden for "da shrimps" as you were leaving. All I can say is, I love fishing Anglins even on a slow day. Fished from 6:00 am to 9:00 and saw 4 pompano caught. Wind was blowing a steady 20 to 25 with higher gusts. Water color was not so good. There were about a 100 people out there trying. As the saying goes: Should of been here yesturday  . That fishing for you

Saw the DR, scopped up the kiddies from Pre School and headed to the pier. Got there like 5:30 an stayed to sunset. Saw one or two pomps come over the rail, but that's it - no real sunset bite to speak of - Tide was coming up and I tried Fleas and Shrimp both on the bottom rig as well as bouncin a shrimp tipped jig.... by swordafishy » Thu Mar 26, 2009 5:35 pm Lots of people out there trying today! The bite was whatever... water was dirty... they were picking up fleas here and there... I threw a jig all morning and ended up catching four... my arm hurts!

Just like Anglins, it was a mad morning bite. Heard some fish came up around sunset. So I went today (after a frustrating day at work) and got there around 2:00. Not much happenening with 1 or 2 here and there. I did manage a nice fatty (about 15", but lost two others to googans. Commercial fishers at that. Both times it was due to fouled lines. I think these guys know better and were trying to piss recs off their spot. What they did was when you got a bite. They'd run up and pick their rods up. That creates a cluster fluk. You can't tell if your fish is over or under their lines so you just end up cranking it in and ALL lines in the close proximity get tangled. by inshoreguy » Fri Mar 27, 2009 11:30 am Fished this morning with the kids for pomps. Pompano started biting about 7:30 and were still biting when we left at 10:00. Fishing was very, very good. Lots of people were getting there limits. Fish were being caught on both bait and jigs. We caught all of our fish on shrimp. Wind was blowing like crazy and the pompano were loving it. The bite has been solid the last two days. I was out of town but a good freind hit the pier for half an hour to get fleas and sad he say at least 25 fish caught but massive tangles on the way and he could the screaming from the beach. Sounds like fun. The beach has been slow. Think we didn't get enough rough weather and the sandbars are to close to shore. He fished two spots down the beach and it sucked. meaning no limit but fish caught. its getting crowded on the beach also. Maybe I should of never posted that i get them off the beach south of the pier. Our spot had 14 rods out last night when last year 8 would be a busy day if they were biting. Haven't seen the commercial guys either so this may be a bad year for the beach. by islandflyfisher » Sat Mar 28, 2009 4:46 pm I decided to go yesterday after school, despite some pretty annoying back spasms earlier in the day. Got there at 4:00 and fished until sunset. I got 4 keepers, all on shrimp and missed 2 on jigs. There were a few blues around and I got one on a jig. Michael and Jordan limited out.
