I was at Anglins from 6pm - 8:30pm today. Water was dirty and seas were 2-4 feet and very windy. There were lots of sharks in the area plenty of people trying to catch them. I wound up with 1 spanish mac cought on a gotcha. There was also plenty of sand perch being caught east of the hut.

Not much hitting. No pomps, looks like they should show up sat. Moonies, moonies, and more moonies. Sent out a couple of runners (untouched) Nick 123 hooked a ray, Gatorkong slayed the moonies. Catch 'em up this weekend, conditions look good.

Got a short Mutton, a Cero, and 5 Spanish - biggest bottomed out my 8lb scale, just over 8 by the looks of it. Also lost a 30+ lb jack that wrenched off the circle hook on a ball of weeds after a long fight from the hut to the T.

My girlfriend and I fished last night from 8-12. We basically had the whole pier to ourselves. Very nice.... The first couple hours were very slow then things picked up around 10:30. I failed to set the hook on one and had another bluefish, but when I got it up to the pier, something grabbed it and started ripping off line. I was cut off shortly after.... She landed 2 bluefish. She was pretty excited. This was her first real catch off of the pier. Hopefully, this will make her want to fish more. Thats means more fishing for me .

As the sun started to set I put the fleas out. Two pomps go in the cooler. One of the pomps was being chased in by a HUGE cuda. I seen someone catch a barely legal mangrove. Nice to see snappers again!!

It was a good day, but had a little scare out there. A guy got stung by a ray and fell into convulsions. Luckily someone ran and got some Benadryl for him. He seemed to be alright after that. My Hero, LOL

Anyone that wants to get Pompano this year here in the south better go fishing soon, It looks as though the water is now trending towards warming up and if we don't get any Cold Snaps to keep it maintained some of our Northern Fishys will head home. So my advise is get'em now while you can.

So long Bluefish, Pompano

Don't get me wrong the last two years I have seen the Pompano getting caught all the way into June but not in any numbers, just a few Pompano with ADD running in circles. "the ADD is just a joke no harm intended"

anyways my heads up for the rest of this month, just another opinion

Was out there Sunday May 4th from around 3am till noon, and NOTHING...I didn't catch anything, besides a "eye hardon" wow were the babes out today, anyway back to fishing. Some guy landed a nice mack around dawn, and that was it till around 10am, then a few fish here and there, nothing to write home about, UNTIL...I hear "ANYONE GOT A NET???" being practically yelled, and I see people heading that way, turns out some guy who was fishing for snapper, hooked a HUGE tarpon 100+lbs, got him into the area where the waves break by shore, and he took off out to sea again, the guy kept up with him no problem, then finally the net shows up and they try to get this massive tarpon in the net on 20lbs test and he jumped again and popped the line...I believe the "net guy" was Willy, the guy who works the pier, NOT SURE, but I think it was him. Otherwise it was DEAD...

On the way out to the tee everyone i asked said they caught plenty of blues the previous night.
Right as the sun was setting the herrings showed up at the tee, then the wind died down, and we didn't get one hit the whole time.
Tommy aka Zebco said the blues left since the current was goin south yesterday and then it switched with the wind to the north today. makes sense to me but couldn't the current change directions tomorrow??
still had a good time casting out a rod, and chilling with friends.

by Spear'em! » Thu Jan 22, 2009 8:32 pm Dania

Last evening the macks were solid on the beach chasing the glass minnows. Buddy got 3 nice ones and some other people had a lot more. All these fish were caught on the beach and you had run after the schools of macks or just wait till the next pod came down the beach. The night before throwing a small jig at Hollywood beach produced a bunch of decent blues. No one was fishing pomps which is what I was hoping to see being caught.
Is anybody getting any pomps. I accept PM's if you don't want it to be public knowledge.

by Spear'em! » Mon Jan 26, 2009 9:16 pm

So was that an everyday catch? Catching 20 or 30 shorts a day or just the days when the huge schools of short came thru and triples were coming up every catch? I fished anglins once this year fall and got 4 keepers. Just to far of a drive and 12 bucks to fish hurts. It is is the best pier I've ever fished though. If I lived up there I'd fish it more.
I just love the spring run when I can fish the beach with 3 or 4 buddies fishing 3 rods each in the same area and have a blast and usually limit out. Nothing like a school of fish coming thru and 6 of 10 rods going off at the same time and the chinesse fire drill starts. Your reeling your rod and your buddies rods and whatever rod is going off. Sometimes you just have to stop and have a cold beverage and leave the rigs in the sand.

by fishnfool73 » Mon Jan 26, 2009 9:19 pm

I normally only jig for them. To me nothing like a 3 lb pompano on 6 or 8 lb with a jig . Some days I did upwards of 100 fish and would stop messing with them.

by hoser » Tue Jan 27, 2009 12:10 am

I fished Anglins today from 9:00am - 3:00pm.

Lots of ballyhoo. Ballyhoo was the bait of choice, they were getting chased throughout the day.

I caught one Bonito and one Mac. I also missed the hook up on 2 Mac's. All the hook ups that I had were done on freeline. I also had a bottom rig out with cut Ballyhoo in hopes of Snapper, but nada. The pier attendant took a pic of me and my Mac for the Anglins wall . I'll post a pic of the Bonito and me, since I asked a guy to take a pic with my cell phone. It was my first Bonito, and it was a blast getting him up. I actually thought I was going to get spooled, and at the last minute he stopped going out. I had heard that people don't eat them, and so I gave him away. I'm may keep it next time and give it a shot.

The one I caught was a big mofo. I don't know the usual size of them that are caught off of Anglins, but the person I gave it to mentioned it was the biggest he's seen.

Also, want to mention that I fished Tuesday Jan. 27. I caught the biggest Mac that I ever actually even seen. Some dude took a pic with his digital camera and I didn't have my phone to text message him my email. Nevertheless, a pic was taken at the front desk. Overall I caught 2 Macs on Tuesday in general was good. Macs came up, and I counted at least 5 Jacks, with decent size to them as well. I was there during the time of 9am-330pm. This was the action at the T. I am not sure what happened at the hut.

I also went today, Wednesday. I didn't catch anything today. I heard Blues were at the first hut, and a Cobia (27 inches) was caught at the first hut as well. Saw 2 Muttons, one short, the other 18 inches. The keeper Mutton was caught between the first hut and the T on the north side. Macs were around, but not alot. A blacktip shark was lost at the T.

Fished last night from 6p-9p. Nothing was biting while I was there. About where the reef line begins and about 100 yds from the pier there was something ( probably tarpon) crashing the bait. The best part of the night was this guy fishing a little further down from me using a traditional baitcasting reel with the drag clicker engaged the whole time. About every other cast he lost the squid form his chicken rig and 1 piece actually hit him in the head. Every cast he made sounded like he had a monster fish on and then the icing on the cake was he was holding it upside down and reeling like it was a spinning reel. NO fish but at least I was entertained.

Anglins is set to go off - All kidding aside - With THAT much bait hangin around - it is just a matter of time...In fact I have not been there at night lately for my usual winter, nightime, beer 'an bluefishing, this year - But with the bait in solid like for a while now that I would bet it is pretty steady bluefish bite at night, wiyth better tyhings to come as soon as the water dirties a tad, and the eyesight of those macs is less effective.

So I came back at 4pm and stayed till dark and dropped a light and had some shrimp in it with in minutes, they trickled through while I was there.
Blues between 4 and 6 lbs after dark and a Pomp just before dark I stayed until 9:30ish.
