Here's the result of today's fishing.

by Spear'em! » Tue Feb 17, 2009 2:23 am Dania

Saw the wind was blowing today and saw the reports of some pompano being caught at Anglin's so i headed to the beach to day to give it a shot. I got to my normal spot and the fleas were hard to come by but I got couple dozen and started fishing. the tide was dropping fast and with no bites I headed up to the pier around 5;45pm.
A bunch of people were out fishing but I found a spot just outside of the breakers next to Tony (not sure if he visits this forum but a super nice guy) and gave it a shot. i fished till about 7:15pm with no hits. A guy inside of us hooked up but after weaving thru a few lines his line broke or was burned off by another line.
Heard a few macks were being caught on the T but didn't make the walk.
Thats it for now.

I was at Anglin's today from 15:30-17:30. I'd heard about some macks coming up earlier, but didn't see any action at all. Water had some color, choppy surf, winds SSE 15 -20 MPH. Ballyhoos everywhere, so I loaded up on them. Spent my time at the 2nd hut.
Who knows, with this wind, maybe the morning will be good for pomps.
And da-da-dats all folks.

I went out this morning with marcus. Together we caught 95 gogs in a little over 3 hours. Bonito were chasing our gogs to the pier. Jacks big ones were crashing the ballyhoo just beyond casting distance. The wind was perfect. I had to leave and pick my rod up at biscayne rods. And stopped at my favorite tackle shop Anglers B&T to borrow one of Ricks beautiful Crowders. Did you know they are made with Calstar blanks? Got my Saltist spooled with some tritanium. Also the man dropped back my handle to give me more elbow greese. Your a PIM P man!

About 25 Pomps caught in the afternoon high tide. I caught some last night. Weatherman was wrong last night. I'll nuke him later. get ready. Pomps are slowly on the move. Hope you don't believe me. Less lines in my way to chop.

by ddratler » Thu Feb 19, 2009 9:11 pm Dania

little brother fished all day
ballyhoo thick at the tee
he lost a nice mack on the flip and saw only a couple others landed along with 2 bonita in the morning
schools of glass minnows in the surf, and he saw one guy catch a 33inch snook on shrimp on a jighead in the shallows
he only saw one pomp come over the rail

by Lomax aka ZEBCO » Fri Feb 20, 2009 2:44 am Dania

Snooks were cruising. No clue what was going on at the end. To tired to find out. Fished 1 shrimp and left after fat azz Snookie looked at me and gave me the middle fin. 10 minutes and I left.

by Spear'em! » Tue Feb 24, 2009 5:07 pm Dania

Stopped by last night and the fishing was slow. A few boneheads caught is what I heard. Maybe with this wind things will pick up.

by dave c » Wed Feb 25, 2009 7:48 pm Dania

fished dania from 330pm to 530pm and caught nothing at all. didnt see anyone catch anything except bait and 2 triggerfish. 15 knot ne wind and water slightly dirty. better luck next time

by ddratler » Thu Feb 26, 2009 10:54 am Dania

by BoatlessFisherman » Fri Feb 27, 2009 12:45 am

by Boruchlen » Sun Mar 01, 2009 1:06 pm

Fished from 0645 - 1030, nothing other than bait. Didn't see anything else come up other than an undersized yellowtail. Winds from the South, slow at first, but picking up as we left. water was a bit choppy, clear.

thinckkkk hoos all under the tee there were a couple big macks swimming around none caught while i was there, i heard they caught some early afternoon before i came
after sunset: wind died down, gogs were crashing small baits all over, caught 15 big ones, herring around, only one blue, a jack, caught, and a tarpon hooked and lost

by inshoreguy » Mon Mar 09, 2009 9:26 pm

Fished today from 10:00 to 2:00. Lots and lots of Pompano caught. Several people had there limit of six fish. A few fish were caught on fleas however most were caught on jigs. Doc goofy jigs were working well. The fish were hanging very close to the pier.
Most were caught from the first hut east to the first light pole. One thing that was very important today was the size of the jigs. You had to use really small jigs in either white or yellow. I saw several pompano caught on gog bugs also.
I also noticed that the guys who were catching the most were tipping there jigs with little pieces of shrimp. That seems to work better then just a plain jig.
Even though there were lots of pompano around, you did have to work for them. Just about any time you looked down at the bottom you could see pompano flashing all around.
I got there around 10:00 am and over heard several people say that they starting chewing at sun rise, normally pompano will stop feeding around 8:00 or 9:00 am but today they were feeding well into the afternoon.
Hopefully this is a sight of what is to be a great spring run. I am sure they will bite again in the morning for anyone who has a chance to get out there. Good luck to all.

OK, just called the pier - wind died - Dead calm and clear - no pomps this AM - so I am NOT leaving work sick....lol

by one more cast » Tue Mar 10, 2009 7:27 pm

correct....no pomps this AM. Fished 6am to 10am.....gogs around and scattered hoo's. Saw a few big macks out of reach sky thru some bait pods. By 8am wind was dead, no current and clean water.....Will be off the charts this weekend I am sure, like Cookin I can't get out either.

by jamel13 » Thu Mar 12, 2009 9:33 pm

Fished from 8A to 1P today and 'twas SLOW! Ballyhoos and Gogs were available but there's not much happening out there, really! There's only a small snook and a keeper mutton that came up and that's about it... Well, maybe next time...

by StyngRay » Thu Mar 12, 2009 3:52 pm Dania

Wednesday morning (10:30-11:45), a buddy of mine invited to join him at the pier with his visiting father.
I didn't have the heart to tell him it was a full moon and the bite would be dead during the day and to wait until the evening.

Calm winds, super clear water. Not one bite from anyone while I was there. I did manage to see plenty of people hook into Rockfish.

Man, those things look easy to catch but hard to land.
Most of the rockfish would spit the hook or bend them straight from the fight. Others would just get cut off trying to fight them to the pier.

by BoatlessFisherman » Fri Mar 13, 2009 6:33 pm

Well let me say this

I think we may see Shrimp this weekend and tonight it may start heavy, from what i understand the current is heading north and there is good color to the water and I know that this past week they did good in Key Biscayne and what I saw last sunday night was ridiculous as in numbers of shrimp there was alot.

The water is warming after this week so the Pomps should start moving better, still waiting on the macks in numbers they seem to be MIA with a few showing up every day.

A few Muttons were caught today and undersize Yellowtails, saw a couple of nice tails yesterday, big sand perch have also been around and boocoo Gogs and Hoos early morning and some in the evenings.

It is still hit and miss but that is about to change I think.

Thanks Tom, you're the man.

I just went to the free lot and it was full.
Also there is a sign saying it cost $10 to park. Is that true?

by BoatlessFisherman » Sat Mar 14, 2009 5:13 pm

Just this week Striper, due to the Festival

Yes we finally went last night. I learned a lot because I am the amateur and linda is the one who has fished all her life...lol...a certain really nice person showed me how to tie a uni-knot lol....

Anyway, we caught a bunch of fish...one 16 inch pompano...a huge blue....quite a number of jacks...and i think the other fish were called chubs or something like that...

and linda caught this huge puffer fish...it was so funny...i have never seen one so big...

by swordafishy » Sun Mar 15, 2009 3:42 pm

Great chatting with you yesterday Tommy!

Headed up yesterday afternoon with the GF... had a hunch the pomps would be chewing in the afternoon...
The fish came through in a couple waves... and were sporadic at times... Definitely beginning to taste a spring run though...
Came home with 5....all on goofy jigs...
