Fished today with hubby. Water is crystal clear and almost flat! Jack came with live shrimps and managed to camp at the south side past the middle hut. First cast, BAM! Came a big hogfish of 15 to 20 lb. range. Second cast, another hogfish but a lot smaller of 5 to 10 lb. range. Nothing happened after that and so I decided to hunt for snook. Ended up with 4 underslots ranging from 22 to 26 inches long. I tell ya, it's a lot of hardwork but I had a blast... Thanks to my beloved husband for being supportive of catching bait for me.
Here's a pic of my 26 incher... Hope I'll catch my keeper soon... Until next time...

Hi guys, I'm fairly new to posting here, I mostly just read the reports .Well, I went today from 5am to 3pm. There was a nice south wind at about 15mph. I saw very few pomps caught in the am but there were blues all day to keep you busy. Some macs showed up around 12 to 2. I limited out on blues, 2 pomps, 9 macs and 2 undersized snook. One was almost a keeper at 27". I also met Tommy, very nice guy and thank you for sharing some of your fishing knowledge with me. Well i'm off to the wallgreens to get something for this bad sunburn.

I fished Wednesday. As was said earlier, Blues around probably until 5pm or so. Mac's were here and there, but around 6pm the Mac's became more consistent. I personally only caught Blues and Macs. Later in the evening, just a handful of Pomps, when I mean a handful I mean about 4-5. The blues were all caught on the south side of the pier just east and west of the hut. The macs were caught on both the north and south sides of the pier, in and around the hut. Not really sure what went down at the T.

Fished from 8-3 around the middle hut. Missed the pomp run, but was in time to see the blues start busting. I didn't really bother with them though. Finally the macks came through managed to get 6 of them. It was pretty breezy out there. All in all it was a pretty fun day out.

fished from about 8 to 3 and together(me and my dad) we caught 15 blue fish 5 macs and 2 blue runner.. pretty good day since i didnt catch anything on monday or tuesday...also around the pier there were some big cudas chasing macks and blues....the blues were mostly caught on spoons, and the macks were caught off of crappie jigs

by xtheline » Thu Apr 02, 2009 11:12 pm

the Pomps showed before sundown as well as small macks. Plenty of big baits were out, no takers. About a jillion tiny moonfish all along the pier. Snook were scarce and did not see any bluefish this evening.

I hit the pier from 6:30am until 2:00pm today. The night before I went north of Commercial Pier to dig sand fles and man, was it tough. An hour and a half, 2 mile walk, and all I had for my efforts was about 4 dozen fleas. The night before I hit North Beach in Hollywood, and got jack. My buddy with me at the time, caught a sand crab (species?). It was about 3" across, with small pinchers, and fast as heck. I know, it got loose in my patio and that sucka was faster than a palmetto bug on crack.

So when I first get there, I set the crab out on a fish finder rig. I used a 4oz bank sinker with bead and tied on about 2' of 40# flourocarbon leader, finished off with a 2/0 short shank hook, in hopes of a permit. I had it out no longer than 5 minutes and up comes a nice 15" pomp.

The pomps came up one by one, with only one double the whole time I was there. At about 11:00 the action on the T started up. Macs, blues were hitting on gotchas and jigs. I chose to hang it tough with the pomps to no avail.

On a brighter note, the wind was picking up and the water was getting dirty again so I won't be surprised if there is a late afternoon pomp bite.

Me, I had to go home to let the dog out. Too late though as she pee'd in the office. Oh well, I can't blame her, as I didn't walk her before I left, so it's was my fault.

The usual suspects were there.. Tex, Tommy (zebco), Jason, Carl, Mike, and coach Ben made an appearance, and of course, the pier (mall) cop, Saul. Who I didn't see was Ralphy or Gotcha (did he go into hiding?).

I almost forgot...

Just as I was leaving, I was reeling up one of my pompano rods, which was facing south. As I was reeling it up, I had a few lines tangled up in it. I'm like, "OK, Which googan casted over my line?" and there was a guy about 20' down to my left, and no, it wasn't him. Another guy 20', no it wasn't him. Then I notice Saul's line is caught into it as well, and he's 30 to my right.

Ok this week the pomps have hit every morning some better than others, every evening they make a ditch run just before dark so if your ready you can get'em. On the clearer water times I have seen a good 6 to 10 hogfish leave in coolers and yes that one was a HOG of a Hogfish and I will post the pic when I remember to bring the card home or when I have my Laptop.

Yesterday and today the Macks have started to show in pretty good numbers but they have been on the smaller size so they are looking for smallish bait like stuff, Crappys, Jigs with strips.

Blues have been solid at different times through out the last two days also, yesterday they sat straight down from the middle hut and looked like the gogs and just sat and you just needed to drop a jig.

Croakers have been inshore around the trough and also Runners and Bluefish, a couple of small schools of mullet have been meandering on the North and south side for the last couple of days, Ballyhoo off the tee and some gogs around, also big greenies.

I have heard about a few Muttons but have not seen them and have also heard of some shorts.

Also Sharkeys have been around alot of smallish ones, also a few Big boys

My impression of this week has been Good fishing but I am also there a little to much so I hear and see more than most, I think it may slow down the next two days but should go right back come Sunday, if I was to fish Friday or Saturday and it ends up clearish water fish for Snapper "Yellowtails and Muttons" and don't forget the Hogfish. Cudas should also be around if it is clear.

When the wind comes back around and the high moves it should kick the wind back up Sunday or Monday and this hopefully will give the water back its color and the Pomp bite will be back on, hopefully the macks will stay around and get bigger and don't really care what the Bluefish do, but they will more than likely stay.

ok i was advised to give a report for thur so got their at 12 scattered blues around big cudas crappies worked best for macs at the hut south side letting it sink and lightly poping it up then after awhile they shut off and at 5 the pomps came on the north side on pomp jigs mostly banana jigs work they were pretty big ones and the macks were tinkers i released most of them caught 6 kept 2 and kept 3 blue fish tried to get people to threw their tinkers back but not much luck so good luck their were big crevelles around

not much luck getting them a kid from my school speared oneb that was like 25+ so good luck every one.

Thanks for the reports guys - I was wondering what the clear water did to the bite.

We have seen wind the last few days here on te Boca Deerfield line, but the water was clearish. Today the winds started early, so it is possible that we get a good bite later in the AM or eve.

PLS keep the reports coming, I do not get to the pier as often as I used to so it is good to hear what is happening, so I can try to pick my days wisely.

There has been Hammerheads around, Blues, short Muttons, a few Pomps the last two days.

I was there today with the wee ones and it was slow while I was there

Highly doubtful, since it is 3 rods per person on the pier.

Night times recently,.. Bluefish and smaller size Snapper. Few Pomps too.

Well, decided to head up to Anglins and hang out with Tom for a while / fish. Saw Gonesharkfishin up there and most of the night was uneventful. I was hanging out with another friend from here, cant for the life of me remember his screename or his name, thou I am horrible with names, Im sure he will pop in say whom he is. We fished all night like troopers and for our pain he got a cooler full of greenies and horse pilchards and at dawn I got lucky and started catching huge gogs on my green back xrap, mustve bagged like 10 or so, about 5-7 inches, could be smaller but they were huge. Tom was cool as always and let me in on a little secret for pompano.

So the pompano crowd got there and the rail became full of bottom rods on bad wind, lines where everywhere, although personally I was fine, I did see more than a few tangles. I pitched my little jig out farther from the rest of the crowd after one of them hooked up, I was closer to the break water and worked it like Mr. Boatless told me, and as always hes gold, I think he should write a book, if he dont then I shall . First pompano Ive ever caught flopped up on deck as I flipped him, he fought hard. Flipped the jig back out, and after some jiggin I had another keeper, this time a little bigger, he stripped some line but was up on deck as well. After that, seeing that it was hard to cast anywhere near there due to the fact that now a rather large crowd had showed up, I swapped to an xrap and proceeded to try for mackerel which were actually cutting off some of the peoples pompano jigs.

After some time trying different lures, I went back to the ghost xrap which ended up catching me a decent little mac. he got one as well, and I held my fish in the water so he could hook up as well, it worked. The mackerel were bitting when the sun would show thru the clouds. Saw a good number of pompano come up on jigs and fleas as well as shrimp, so they were there. Pics, I only took some with the pompano because they are my first and second pompano ever! It was a wonderful morning, and I may go back this week if money allows!
