I was hanging out with another friend from here, cant for the life of me remember his screename or his name, thou I am horrible with names, Im sure he will pop in say whom he is. We fished all night like troopers and for our pain he got a cooler full of greenies and horse pilchards and at dawn I got lucky and started catching huge gogs on my green back xrap, mustve bagged like 10 or so, about 5-7 inches, could be smaller but they were huge. Tom was cool as always and let me in on a little secret for pompano.

im pretty sure i wasnt catching bait with you but i fished also from yesterday afternoon to this morning

the afternoon bight yesterday was pretty dead aside from a few mackeral caught that was it
once it got nice and dark fish started to show, for bait i was sabiking herring and the ocasional goggleeye under one of the lights consistently
smaller bluefish were biting all night i kept 6 of the nice ones and released around 7 or 8 skinny ones
mangos were around under the pier but they were all shorts
hooked into a huge black grouper (i didnt see it but i could tell ) it brought me all the way to the tee and then it just started to mosey on off almost emptying my reel with 40 lb line before it cut me off
saw i think its londonfisherman (corect me if im wrong) out at the tee with a big mango in his cooler
little after sunrise pompanos made there apearence, current was ripping north, good color and wind, i was surprised to see the night shut off after only like a half hour, i managed to flip 4 nice ones
i got hit on a bottom rod with a gog head way out on the north reef line. the way the fish was fighting it had people guessing either a shark or cobia, but i wasnt upset when a 20in mutton came up

also caught along with the blues a 13in lane snapper, and a fat little porgy.

met some new folks throughout the night, thanks jannet for the inside scoop
wasnt going to stay all night but im glad i did

It sure was, I was surf fishing to the north a few miles and I couldnt keep 5oz pyramid sinkers from rolling up on the beach. Packed up and left after about 1-1/2hrs and bought some heavier pyramid sinkers on the way home. Been looking for some 6oz sputnik's locally but nadda. After today, I ordered some 6 & 8oz on line.

That's pretty much what I did. I would cast 30-40 degrees or so (toward the ESE) and after about 10 minutes, maybe less, my line was almost parallel to shore pointing north. The line was reasonably tight the entire time so I'm picturing this weight just rolling along the sand, the rod being the pivot point.
