Janet & I went this morning as soon as we dropped AJ to school. As soon as we reached the pier, we were too late!!! The bite was very early and that we've missed it! We stayed 'til 2 PM with 1 pomp.
A good friend of ours at the pier gave me a call a few minutes before 4 PM so I decided to give it a shot one more time.I am so amazed how "hot" the bite was when I reached there. Pomps were everywhere that I caught my limit in an hour or less. I decided to give Janet a call and asked her if she wants to come over to fish and she didn't hesitated. She came with the little one and then she started jigging. It didn't lasted long and she caught her 1st pomp. Then came the 2nd and the 3rd and so on...
We finally ended up with these @ 6:20 PM. Great time fishing on my day off!

Tuesday 4/14 when I observed the best Pompano Fishing day at Anglin's Pier I have ever witnessed.
The wind blew from the SE all day. Records say the wind was 17 mph with gusts to about 21. The Fishin Kid is going to disagree with those reports. It was a substantial wind, certainly above 20 mph most of the day, with gusts to 30. The top fishing began at about 2:30 p.m. By about 4:00 p.m. my partner and I had our limit. We could easily have caught 30 fish a piece, and some nearly did. With a harvest of that nature, it was apparent many could not abide by the regulations. On two of my casts the sinker didn't hardly strike bottom and the Pompano were on my fleas with the rod still in my hand.
I scored a triple, the first landed triple of my career, as well as two doubles. Yes, that’s 7 fish, my partner took 3, I took the rest, after all, I am the Fishin Kid. But truth be told everyone caught fish. I'd have to guess 400 Pompano plus came over the rail in that hour and a half. Blasphemy of all blasphemies most of them were taken on Jigs. When the Fishin Kid returns, he will have a Jig pole, but will at least have the consideration to not cast until a Pompano comes over the rail and proves the casting is warranted.

Tabasco goes good with popcorn.
Fishing report: Pomps yesterday, Some Pomps and nice Spanish Mackerel the day before. Big Jacks starting to appear. Night fishing has been producing some Bluefish, mostly in the 1 to 3 lb range. Large Sardines have been around, and big pilchards have been showing this past week, with a huge school coming up from the south yesterday. A handful of Muttons yesterday, all a bit short. Snook are around, but you have to work for them. Been a few Permit in the area. Had one around 20lb swimming right by the entrance gate last week before fading in the green cloud.

Went out today, hit the pier pre-dawn after hearing the plundering that took place last night. The wind had shifted from the west, and the water was CRYSTAL clear, with rolling swells. As you could imagine, nothing bit, not a thing. I tossed everything in the tackle box, and did not have but one chaser that spit the hook on tome secret mac lure. I only saw a keeper yellowtail come over the rail, as well as assorted bait. I did spot a stingray followed by a 30 or so lbs permit, and a small cobia . Nice day to be at the beach, bad day to be fishing. However, I heard something about a cold front or two headed here still... Theres hope yet. I however am out of steam and money hehe. BUT, tomorrow the wind will blow from the NNW, and switch to NNE with another cold front, look for them to bite then... I wish I could be there.

Hey everyone
New to the board. Wanted to introduce myself and say whats up? Anywho, has there been any bait these past couple of days? I got out there early tuesday morning till about 9:30 and NO bait whatsoever. Did see people bringing up pomp and some mack at the T with jigs but thats about it. Any idea on when there will be?
Tight lines.

fished from 3am-10am with Boruchlen, his cousin, and my little bro
decent wind and water color, current moving south (i think)
bait was around at night under the lights by the tee
pomps started bighting from when we got there till like an hour after sunrise we each ended up with 3-5 each
after pomps stopped biting macks came in thick I caught 4 on a small jig with mack belly strips, but i saw them caught on yozuris and goofy jigs. this only lasted for about an hour or two then it slowed down by 10am
little brother caught a keeper mutton and his biggest pompano to date, and on Boruchlen's first day fishing after surgery he caught his first spanish mack, wait make that 4 of his first spanish macks
cooler was full to the brim with fish, i think we counted somewhere around 30 between us four

I passed by the pier and stood by the gate for 20 minutes between 10:30-11am.
I didn't see anyone land a fish while I waited watching and observing from the distance. I'm guess the tide was too low.
So I desided instead of spending the three bucks it would have cost me to fish the pier, I drove into the State Park.
Wouldn't you believe it? The sand fleas were begging me to take them and I caught 3 pomps waiting less than 1 hour.
As often as I'm in the sun, I decided to go home for lunch and I'm saving my fleas for my fishing adventure
this evening at another beach a little later this evening. Surfcasting is #1.

Got to Anglins just after 5am & stayed until 8am.
A couple people were pulling up Lookdowns in good numbers but they were small, must have been big enough for them, they kept throwing them in their bucket.
Heard a few pomp were being caught just west of the hut, I was on the east side of the hut and it was dead. I saw one small pomp caught right under the hut as I was packing up.
Some of the usual crossing/tangle of lines but nobody got overly annoyed.

Fished from 6:30-2:00p.m. Caught one short Cobia(my first) and also my first Pomp. The Pomp troops were out in full force when we arrived, but didn't see any real action. Slow day on the Tee. One Bonita and a couple little Runners. Started leaving at noon and ofcourse the Pomps show up as I'm walking by. Figured what the hell. Caught one right away and missed a few more. A bunch more were caught on jigs, shrimp, and fleas. Decent enough day, but I got fried in the process.

Hey all.
Well, my first day back at fishing , and boy did I have a blast . Sore as heck, but, boy was it worth it. The pain was long gone, while I was savoring the memories and my family and I, the fish themselves .
Fished on Friday morning from +- 0300 hours to +- 0930 hours with ddratler, his brother Eli, and my cousin from Jersey. His first time ever fishing in America. He caught 4 nice pomps (keepers), and about 3 returnees, and 1 mack. I've been fishing for Macks for months, and he gets 1 the first time he goes fishing . Huh!! Go figure!! He also caught a moon fish, and a small grunt which Eli used to catch his keeper Mutton.
I caught 5 keeper pomps all on shrimp, one was just over 11" so I threw it back. And Then,,,, I caught my first MACK!!! YEEEHAAW!!!
Thanks Danni for showing me how reel him in . I definitely would have lost him otherwise. I then proceeded to catch another 3 keeper macks.
All in all, a great day fishing, and I was at work @ 1030 hours.

Figures I left right at Noon Sunday. Caught 2 pomps early and that was it. Was there a hot Pompano bite in the afternoon, or just a few? Had a nice dinner and good times at Anglins. Till next time.
by Cookinman » Mon Apr 20, 2009 5:35 pm
Waiting for the pomp reports today....Nice winds from the S and DFP had dirty water - so I assume we had some action at Anglins?...
by ddratler » Mon Apr 20, 2009 11:21 pm
little brother went out with Boruchlen this afternoon, they had a slow bite but heard from willy that a guy caught and kept 40 pompano in the morning "not knowing the bag limit", and then when he was told only 6 he called up some buddies who came on the pier and took 6 each im not sure what willy did about this but im sure he wasnt a happy camper..........
at least theyre biting though

Went today from 1600 hours to 2000 hours with Eli, We each caught 1 pomp, although there were quite a few pomps coming over the railing by others. We had a SSE wind most of the time, lots of moon fish swimming around. Saw 1 smallish mackerel come over the rail, but that was about it. Threatened rain all afternoon, but other than a few sprinkles we were lucky.
BTW, really nice to meet you Go4em on Thursday night/Friday Morning, and xtheline today.
Well folks, it looks like the winds are gonna be SW/WSW/W then WNW/NW/NNW for the next 2 days turning to N around lunchtime Wednesday, becoming NE in the afternoon and turning to E/SE in the evening.
Lets see what happens, and good luck all.

Can't reply when I am busy catching fish.
Yesterday was glass flat clear and I stayed away from the ocean.

Was anyone fortunate enough to catch their limit of pompano?
I ran out of fleas, switched to shrimp and no takers.

I caught 2 pomps, but tossed them back as they we're about 11.5"
Adrienne caught 2 nice sized moonfish, and also hung in to something on a goofy jig that spooled her.
240yds of braid off in about 15-20 secs... I took the rod from her and felt strong head shakes as it peeled off line... Once the spool started to show I put more pressure on until the 8lb test broke...
Same thing happened to another rod at the same time...pomp rig with fleas.. broke the line
About an hour later - Dan had the same thing happen on a pomp rig with fleas....line snapped....
Not sure what it was, but it was certainly entertaining...
Water was stirred up with lots of weeds....
Till next time...
Fun anyway huh? There were an nordinate amount of really big rays at DFP on Friday....who knows - Nice report !

Morning all.
Fished this morning from 0515 hours - 0900 hours. I caught two pompanos, one undersized (almost smacked someone in the face with it when I flipped it up , BOY, was he MADDD!!! , I can't really blame him. If you're reading this post, I apologize again ), and the other a keeper. It was also my first pompano caught on a jig . I also caught a nice size margate (thanks to whoever it was watching my line for me), 3 small spot-tail pinfish (all returnees, I felt bad eating them, they were so small), and got cut off once. There were quite a few pompanos that came over the railing, both on fleas, shrimp and jigging. Winds were supposed to be 15- 18 mph. Water was nice, fairly dirty, and way too much seaweed for my liking.
Hope you all have good day out there.
by Boruchlen » Sun Apr 26, 2009 9:43 pm
Hey All,
Fished again from 1730 hours - 2030 hours with 4 of my kids. Winds were pretty consistent (East 15-20 mph), less seaweed, and not much biting at all. I caught 1 pompano (keeper) just east of the hut and casting to the north, and 1 of my sons (my 9 year old) caught a spot-tail pinfish at the pier. My fleas stayed on the hooks most of the time, so I guess there weren't that many pomps out there. I will try to be back tomorrow morning again, as it seems the pompano run is ending soon.
Have a great night all.

Made the mistake of going Sunday morning. The 1 pompano rod fished limit is a freaking joke and was not enforced at all. I'll be glad when pompano season is gone and these idiots ( pompano are like crack to some ) can disaapear from the pier like they do every year til the pompano show up again. These people are a freaking blight. Pompano fishing on the piers truly brings out the lowest of the lows far as discourteous fishermen goes. Nice fishing with you Keith , Chad , Nick , Janet, Choi, and seeing a lot of familar faces but call me when the spring run is done.

Yesterday, Pomps and a few Macks along with a 38 inch Cobia in the 1st part of the day. This morning, a few Pomps and a couple of Macks. Plenty of bait.
by Spear'em! » Sun May 03, 2009 3:58 am Dania
Sounds like the bite on the beach. we got some very large pomps (1 permit) on the beach but they were not solid.
Some blue fish, croakers and whiting also mixed in.
Seems like another strange year. I think the pomps are not done yet. last year we hammered them the first two weeks of may.
I can see the zoo on the pier from my spot and it looks like lots of fun.
Good luck out there!

Should have looked in my coolers last week of April before saying that. There will still be fish for a few weeks though, just smaller schools and some smaller fish. Still some nice ones around.

Went from 5-11 am today. Cold and wet. Current flat wind and rain from the sw running through your bones. Thought there might be some bonita in closer today with the weather but only saw one caught about 6 pounds nice fish and better fight, the kid who caught it had 6 pound test and he worked it all the way into the sand because nobody (me) did not have a net to land him. Had the "t" and the pier to myself for most of the time. Floated a balloon with a hoo on and did some bottom fishing with handpicked and under the pier for the hogs but limited bite, mostly reef fish. Hoos were thick up and down the pier hugging the bottom. Saw a school of snook smashing the hoos up and down the pier but did not get in front of any. Massive waves of steam heading off of the surf and it was a pretty awsome day for nature. Thought I might run into a retarded cruiser, cobia or jack but the fish knew something I didn't want to admit today.... too damn cold and wet. There were two anglers there when I left and Chad and frinds were heading to the pier when I was packing, maybe there was a bite after I left...........

Morning there ballyhoo and gogs for bait. With Bonita and huge macs busting the baits. Macs were being caught every now and then till sunset. Nothing much happening right now.
by Jordan » Fri Jan 15, 2010 11:01 pm
I was out there as you posted that report lol. We were there from 5-830. Saw a few macks caught, someone caught a small shark (i think it was a blacktip) off the T around 7ish. Crazy story though. I was reeling in my friends 4/0, and I pulled up a rod and reel combo that a guy had accidently dropped in earlier in the day. Gave the guy his rod back, he was so damn happy lol. Oh yeah hoos were around most of the time.
by rshields » Sat Jan 16, 2010 10:29 pm
Slow day this morniing. Got to the pier about 6 and stayed through 12. A few nice macs brought up and a few jacks one being in the 12 pound range by Chad. Winds were blowing through and current was flat, hoos were plenty.
by mmcauliffe » Wed Jan 20, 2010 12:09 pm
Fished for a little over two hours today, lines in the water just before 7am to just past 9. Water was pretty clear (I thought) surface was flat with a slight current heading north.
Went through 2 dozen live shrimp, got one keeper Sheepshead, threw a second short one back and a puffer.
A number of guys at the T but passers by said there was nothing going on so I didn't bother walking down there.
by Boruchlen » Mon Apr 27, 2009 8:02 pm
C'mon guys, this is the first year I am fishing Anglins pier, including for Pompano, and admittedly, yes, there are some jerks out there, but all in all, I think the people are nice and friendly.
By the way, Thanks Choi and Janet for all your help. It's great fishing on a pier with people like you guys.
Well, back to the report. I fished at the hut today from 0500 hours - 1430 hours. There were QUITE a few pompano coming over the railings, a few people limited out, I managed to catch 3 pompano, and 2 decent sized spot-tail pinfish. I also caught my first blue fish (keeper) today. The pomps started @ around 0630, and I saw the last one come up @ 1200. Thick from 0630 - 0830.
I also saw one skate, a small barracuda, 2 spanish mackerel, and a no. of sand perch come up. Winds were pretty steady (slower than yesterday, but @ +- 12-15mph), slowed down @ around 1200, and so did the current. Water was fairly dirty, even more seaweed than yesterday(damn you, seaweed), no idea what was happening at the T.
Have a great night everyone.
Bruce.

Thurs dusk report. 3 Pompano fisherman, 1 Pompano was caught and it was not by me. I caught 6 beers. Went out to relax and brought 2 rods rigged with jigs, one rod got cut by a mac, down to one rod with a goofy jig. No hits. (did not bring any tackle). The west lot was charging $10 due to a event, however I believe they will start charging soon. I parked at a meter since I was only fishing for 2 hours or 6 beers which ever came first. Water was off clear, but no current. Normal dead report. At least I got a good day in last Sun with 4 good size Pompano in the AM. I should have had my limit but my game was not on....

This "is" the Bluefish run. We were catching them up near 5 lbs. in the AM. Some big Macks too.
Today was slower. Early bite.
Yup there were some nice macs and blues around in the am. Bight shut down around 10/11.
