Quite a few boxes were loaded with toiletries, bath linens, bottled water, laundry detergent, candy, personalized thank yous and more, so this is a great start toward completing the 350 “rack packs” goal.

The rack pack might sound like a small gesture, but it is one that means a lot to a Marine who just spent a tour in the desert and needs things here in his barracks. When the Marine walks into the room after getting off the bus, he finds this pack on his rack with a note welcoming him home.

"This is the first involvement Pine Knoll Shores has had with the donation drive," said Assistant Town Manager & Finance Director of Town of Pine Knoll Shores Julie Anderson.

“We have received a tremendous response. I have two huge vehicles, a truck and large extended SUV, and both of those were filled to the brim last night,” said Anderson.

Several groups have joined the NC Ports in contributing to the program. Some of the additional supporters of this effort are the Town of Bogue Inlet, Town of Cape Carteret, Town of Atlantic Beach, as well as area social groups. The Single Marine Program is sponsored by the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, NC.

North Carolina’s overall export industry is thriving and ready for growth! The North Carolina Department of Commerce received a $945,000 STEP grant from the U.S Small Business Administration that will help increase exporting by small businesses over the next year. That’s 945,000 opportunities for you!

NC Commerce, in cooperation with NCDA&CS has reserved a limited number of STEP grants for agriculture and processed food companies.

The STEP grant will be used to expand the initiative known as N.C. Passport to Export. N.C. Passport to Export will give companies access to new market research, increase education on exports, help companies access global trade shows and new foreign markets, support events in China, Europe and the Middle East, and assist with global branding opportunities. The goal of the program is to increase the number of small and medium size agribusinesses exporting and to help current North Carolina agriculture exporters to increase the number of overseas markets they reach.

For more information on the NC Passport to Export program, contact Cathy Ma at 919-707-3132 or visit http://www.nccommerce.com/it/export-resources/step-grant

There are a limited number of grants offered for agriculture, so make sure you get your application in early! You don’t want to miss this opportunity. Please submit all applications directly to the NC Department of Commerce.
