Example of Action Planning Document
Based on the 70-20-10 learning model, the micro-learning videos were catalysts for informal and self-directed learning back in the workplace.
In-between the face to face sessions the micro-learning videos were automatically emailed out on a webpage in the months in-between the sessions to keep the managers engaged and for them to take action back at work.
We created the following micro-learning sessions:
Managing Vs Leading
Emotional Intelligence
Communication Skills Masterclass
Empowering Your Staff
Managing Performance
Giving & Receiving Feedback
Features
3 to 5 Minute Sessions – they were short, focused sessions based on 1 or 2 key topics to keep engagement levels up
Accessible – the sessions were accessible, compatible with multiple platforms, and searchable.
Action Planning – Each session came with 3 actions that the delegate needed to implement within the next month thus bringing the learning to life. These were then covered on the face to face session at the start of the next workshop
Support – delegates could email a “Virtual Trainer” with any questions and a trainer would respond within 3 hours
Design – the format included rich media that lead to better retention of knowledge
Agile – the sessions were created and deployed much quicker than traditional elearning. We could create quickly off the back of a workshop and hence make it very relevant to the learners
Legacy Asset – the sessions were to be used for new management induction and hence has a life time value/benefit associated with them
Learning Styles – these were first time managers and pre-dominantly young in age. These sessions really appealed to millennial learners with short attention spans
The Benefits
£5,000 Cost Savings – Training Fees – the 6 sessions delivered across 20 managers instead of additional ½ day sessions saved an estimated £5,000 in face to face delivery fees (1 groups x 3 days = 3 delivery days (plus design) minus development fees for sessions)
£6,000 Cost Savings – Travel Expenses – would have been 3 days x 20 managers x 2 (to and from training venue) = 120 travel expenses. Assumption of a minimum £50 claim; savings = £6,000
240 Hours Saving In Travel Time – 120 instances of traveling to and from the training venue. Average of 2 hours travel time = 240 hours travel time
240 Hours Saving In Classroom Time – 6 x 3 hour workshops for 20 managers would have been 360 additional classroom hours. The micro-learning sessions take 5 minutes, increase to an hour with the application in total (total time is 6 x 1-hour x 20 managers = 120 hours)
Relevancy & Design
Future Application
Based on the success of these sessions we are creating a concept called “60 Second Courses” http://www.mtdtraining.com/60sec
This will take the 70-20-10 model onto the next level
