KOREAN UNIFICATION: LINCOLN PARK HIGH SCHOOL

Exact Plan Text:

The United States federal government should diplomatically engage the People’s Republic of China by offering to withdraw US military presence from the Korean peninsula in exchange for China securing peaceful unification of the Korean peninsula.

Advantages/Harms (with explanation):

East Asia Destabilization- Current United States THAAD deployment to South Korea stops constructive security cooperation with China on North Korea. The program also leads to Sino-American military conflict. Kim Jong-un’s leadership creates paranoia and dissension leading to collapse of North Korea. Sudden or internal state collapse makes WMDs flowing across international borders and becoming available to terror groups.

Human Rights- North Korea’s terrible human rights record includes enslavement and abuse of hundreds of thousands. Treatment of political prisoners is especially disturbing because it destroys freedom of speech. International pressure has failed to improve the quality of human rights in North Korea. States have an obligation to find policy solutions to frequent transgressions of human dignity.

Solvency Mechanisms:

Chinese leverage is necessary for peaceful Korean unification. China only supports unification if U.S. withdraws military presence from Korean peninsula. Arranged reunification is key to peaceful and stable transition of power in DPRK. A unified Korea is also key to reshaping human rights standards in region. Human rights standards are improved internationally through Korea’s security independence and the increasing role of middle powers in multilateral organizations.

LGBT (“Magic Mike”): RTC Medical Prep

Exact Plan Text: (Insert 2A name here) and I advocate for the debate sphere to be used as an area, for us to eliminate the invisibility that the LGBT community within China is currently facing. We stand in solidarity with the people of China to express the activism that brings an end to silence.

Advantages/Harms (with explanation):

  • Affirming the Other: The Republic of China has systematically otherized the LGBTQ+ community within china. Because of the media, the LGBTQ+ community has been made into the “other.” If the community is kept from the media then they will continue to be the “other,” and their voices will not be heard.

  • Narratives: The 1AC presents a 1-on-1 conversation with Gigi Chao that describes how the otherization has affected her and the LGBTQ+ community of China. The 2AC will present a narrative written by a member of the LGBTQ+ community of the U.S.

Solvency/FW Mechanisms:

The affirmative rejects the idea of Roleplaying as the USfg because narratives solve best.
