Lockers are school property, and the lockers and contents may be searched for health and safety reasons. Please tell your children not to leave food in their lockers for extended periods of time. The following information is taken from Minnesota State Statute. “School lockers are the property of the school district. At no time does the school district relinquish its exclusive control of lockers provided for the convenience of students. School authorities for any reason may conduct inspection of the interior of lockers at any time, without notice, without student consent, and without a search warrant. The personal possessions of students within a school locker may be searched only when school authorities have a reasonable suspicion that the search will uncover evidence of a violation of law or school rules. As soon as practicable after the search of a student’s personal possessions, the school authorities must provide notice of the search to students whose lockers were searched unless disclosure would impede and ongoing investigation by police or school officials.”
Columbus is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen personal property or valuables. Items of special value should not be brought to school. The lockers do not lock and not all students will have a locker. No locks of any kind may be put on the locker to secure them.

LOST AND FOUND


The lost and found area is located near the main office. If your child has lost an article, please encourage him/her to check the lost and found box especially after Phy-ed class. At least two times during the school we put all lost items out for students and parents to go through. All items that are not claimed at the end of the school year will be donated to charity.

LUNCH AND MILK PROGRAM


Children in grades 1-6 have the option of eating a hot lunch, alternate lunch, or bringing a cold lunch from home. If they bring a bag lunch, they may purchase milk. Carbonated beverages or glass bottles will not be allowed.
When children buy a school lunch, milk is served as part of the lunch cost. Students who opt to eat the alternate lunch are allowed to control their own portion sizes.
Lunch and milk prices are listed on each monthly menu. Checks should be made out to “Forest Lake Area Schools” and enclosed in an envelope well marked with the student’s name, school and PIN number. Free and reduced-price lunch information will be available at Open House or if you may request your child’s teacher or the office to have the forms sent home with your child.

LUNCHROOM RULES


Responsibility for keeping the cafeteria tidy rests with everyone who uses it. Children are expected to observe the following rules:

  1. Follow cafeteria supervisor’s standards.

  2. Students should move to and from the cafeteria quietly.

  3. Sit down quietly at table. Stay at the table until dismissal.

  4. Under no circumstances should students touch or handle other students’ food.

  5. Carefully and quietly empty trays.

  6. Keep voices at a conversational level.

  7. Pick up all papers or goods that have dropped on the floor and place in the receptacles provided.

  8. Everyone is expected to show courtesy and respect to all lunchroom personnel and to obey them at all times.

  9. At dismissal, line up quietly.

LYCEUMS


Lyceums are schedules to teach, honor, entertain, celebrate, and display school spirit; Behavior expected from the student body will depend on the purpose of the event. Each Columbus student is obligated to show courtesy and respect to the other individuals in the school.
All students are also expected to display the following behaviors:

  • Always respect the rights of the performer or speaker who is presenting the program.

  • Honor and respect the purpose and dignity of the program.

  • Understand the type of audience participation that is acceptable at the event.

  • Avoid yelling, talking, clapping, or indicating approval or disapproval when it is not appropriate.

  • Know that you cannot control how others treat you, but you are responsible for how you treat others.
