Cool cups of foliage lend movement and individual character to this narrow, upright golden Hinoki. Bright gold-over-green foliage is especially showy in the winter garden, but striking and useful throughout the year. Use in tighter landscape spots where plants will get some sun to promote the lighter tips and get some shade to filter the harshest rays of summer. Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Iseli text.

The name means "spirit of the land" in Swahili, a reference to the cultural significance of forest trees around the world, including in Oregon, where this cultivar was discovered. Unique, finely textured, filament-like foliage creates an open, airy quality distinct from other small cultivars. The elegant, rounded tree grows very slowly and stays low and small. This is a very dense irregular upright, and pyramidal selection of Hinoki False Cypress that was introduced at Iseli Nursery, in Boring, Oregon. The plant had been purchased at Mitsch Nursery in the mid to late ‘70’s, and accompanied a shipment of large ‘Nana Gracilis’, which it was not like. Jean Iseli named the plant for his propagator, Paul Halladin, when he had no other name for it. It is very slow growing, and dense with foliage of minute kelly green overlapping sprays. I have seen similar plants called ‘Nana’, but this is larger than a miniatue, growing to 6 feet in height. It is very handsome. Zone 5. Howse text.

Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Cream Ball’
The unique color of this compact ball, neither white nor yellow, is truly cream, a soft, rich shade that will complement many landscapes. A close look at the foliage shows that a range of colors and textures, including bluish needles and green scales that are tipped with blond, contribute to the glowing effect. The well-mannered, easy-to-grow conifer maintains a uniform globe shape without shearing and makes a dressy accent or, lined up, an attractive border edge. More sun produces a brighter look. Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Tsukumo' - Very dwarf. Green all year. Very compact yet fast to develop. As wide as it is high. 45 cm high x 60 cm wide in 10 years in our Nursery/Garden. Zone 4. Cedar Lodge text.
For the smallest site, this tight, rounded bun almost doubles as a mossy green rock. It has dense, finely textured green foliage and grows so slowly that it won't outsize a trough or rock garden. The compact cushion, which is hardy, tough and resilient, is wider than it is tall. Occasionally, short feathery plumes will sprout out among the fine foliage, adding character and dimension to the tiny mound. Iseli text.

Plants grow vigorously in youth, until they attain a height of 4-6'; then the growth rate slows and plants fill in with more compact foliage and branches. The light-green, new growth ages to a deep, dark-green and in winter maintains the darkest green–almost black–of all Cryptomerias, hence the name. Iseli text.

Back again after a brief absence and more entertaining than Nip/Tuck reruns we proudly present the perfect plant for all those customers with the annoying touchy feely plant fondling fetishes. Now you can get that out of your system before you visit the nursery and maul our display troughs. 'Tschi -Tschi', also listed as Chi-Chi, by nurseries that apparently think Ginkgo originated in Mexico is indeed a botanical classic. How could you pass up a Ginkgo with breasts? Hey they even sag with age albeit more slowly than human ones. Even a thousand years from now the future, owners of your property can gaze in wonder at your kinky taste. Arrowhead text.

Juniperus chinensis ‘Daub’s Frosted’
Iseli Nursery USA
Sport of Mordigan Gold. Does not burn in full sun. Outstanding border plant. Brilliant yellow new growth with shaded/older growth a light lime green. The two tone color and frosted texture of this plant is an eye catcher. When it is used as a border with other conifers it draws attention and contrast to green and gold conifers. While the plant is reported to be suitable in USDA zone 4 I live in zone 3. Where/when snow does not cover the plants for the winter I simply throw a small square of old landscape fabric over the plants to prevent burning in the early spring sun. It has a reported 10 year spread of 3-5 ft. The pictured plant was purchased as a 3 gal. and at the time of the picture was in the bed for 3 years. Ken Church text in ACS database.
This low, spreading juniper is especially appealing: it develops new, bright, golden-yellow growth that points in all directions above the bluish-green, feathery, interior foliage. A lively selection for a sunny, well-drained bank or other challenging site where a reliable bit of color is needed. Iseli text.

Juniperus chinensis ‘Expansa Aureospicata’
Juniperus chinensis 'Expansa Aureospicata' - Formerly Juniperus davurica 'Expansa Aureospicata'. Spreading low ground cover with butter yellow patches. Holds branches a little above the ground. Can be used in many ways i.e. in full sun, or partial shade or full shade. Even does well with competition from other trees which it may be grown under to give added colour. Quite slow to start. 50 cm high x 1.5 metres wide in 10 years in our Nursery/Garden. Zone 3. Cedar Lodge text.

'Expansa Aureospicata' only with bold splashes of cream-white foliage. This colour sometimes browns out but can be clipped out with no ill effect to the plant and improves its appearance. This occurs at just one time of the year. This plant looks great in the shade as well. 30 cm high x 1.5 metres wide in 10 years in our Nursery/Garden. Zone 3. Cedar Lodge text.
