    1. Significance of the study

By definition, Anthropology is the most humanistic of the sciences and most scientific of the humanities (Wolf 1964). Through this definition, it comes clear to us regarding the goal and vision of anthropology. Epistemologically, Anthropology satisfied with the diversity of the people and their lifestyle and ethically unwilling to intervene on the lifestyle of any community. Regarding the purpose of anthropology, Haviland cited Ruth Benedict’s explanation where benedict postulates that the purpose of anthropology is to make the world safe for human difference (Haviland pp.133). However, in this era of post modernism, invasion towards the minority and poor are being pushed in the neo-liberal fashion in the name of development and aid. Fortunately or unfortunately, anthropologists kept themselves aside most of the time from the application of their knowledge due to the anxiety of biasness caused by power structure (Gardner and Lewis 2015). By the way, anthropologists from different Continents were engaged in these applied issues working as an advocate between the native and policy maker and sometimes as impact assessor of development project. Now, anthropology has a distinct sub-branch known as development anthropology, anthropology of development and anthropology in development. The major task of this sub branch is to explore the internal politics and the analysis of the nefarious impact of different development project initiated by the dominant towards the subordinated group and their environment.
In case of the proposed study, the internal mechanism through which Chevron expropriating capital from Bibiyana Gas Field, will be explored. Along with this, how this project has been impacted adversely on the livelihood pattern, social structure and environment of the local people will be understood which will provide necessary help for the policy maker during their policy formulation. Moreover, the quantity of development based anthropological studies is very few in case of Bangladesh. Thus, the proposed study will enrich the arena of anthropological knowledge by proving the significance of anthropological insight in the contemporary practices.
