TOWNLEY, Frances Basham, 82, born in Christiansburg, Va., and passed away in Salem, Va., on Tuesday, February 12, 2002. She was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church, the Historical Society, Daughters of The American Revolution, and other civic clubs. She was the beloved wife of the late James M. Townley; loving mother of Peggy Townley Radike and son-in-law, Paul, of Roanoke; devoted grandmother of Martha and Alexandra Radike, Townley Aide Hamilton and husband, Trip; and was preceded in death by her sisters, Esthma B. Collings and Ada B. Holcomb. Frances and her husband, James, a native of Ronceverte, W.Va., owned and operated J. J. Townley & Company until their retirement and move to Salem, Va., in 1984. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2002, 2 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery, Ronceverte, W.Va., with the Rev. J. Dexter Taylor officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association. Mrs. Kitty LYONS TRAIL, 72 of 3820 Ventnor Road, N.E., died Thursday in a Roanoke hospital.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry R TRAIL of Roanoke; two daughters, Mrs. Windred W. LEONARD, Alexandria and Mrs. F.R. SPANGLER, Roanoke; four sons, Guy R., Herman A., and John Robert TRAIL all of Roanoke and Warren S. TRAIL of Roanoke County; one brother, Ward H Lyons of Pulaski, 30 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at Newbern Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert F. Crawford and the Rev. Robert Hawkins. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Pulaski County.
Pallbearers will be Windle and Woodson TRAIL, Archie and Avery LYONS, Joe HOLDERFIELD and John HANCOCK.
The body will be taken from Lotz to the church today at 11 a.m

Sandra Morris Tromblay, age 56 of Dublin, died Monday morning June 2, 2003 at her residence. Born November 23, 1946, in Pulaski, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Rigney Morris and Irvin Conduff Morris. Sandra was a member of the Pulaski Pentecostal Holiness Church and a proud member of the Pulaski County Humane Society. She is survived by a daughter Amy Spradling Carter and her husband Jeff of Rocky Mt., Va.: a brother Richard I. Morris of Radford: three grandchildren; Matthew and Timothy Carter, and Kristen Carter: two nephews; Matthew Morris, and Nicholas Morris, his wife Terri and their son Levi: a special aunt Eula R. Vaughan of Pulaski; also survived by special friends; Michele and Bob Adkins of Dublin, Pamn and Dave Davis of Pulaski, Charles “Dink” and Teresa Andrews of Pulaski, Jim “Peanut” Linkous of KY. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Sloss officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. TUCKER, Louise Robinette, 81, of Dublin, died Thursday, February 13, 2003 at her residence. She was born on January 25, 1922 to James L. and Pebble Stone Robinnette in Benham, Ky., and later lived in Big Stone Gap, Va. She was formerly a teller at the Bank of Virginia's Main Street Office in the Town of Pulaski. Louise is survived by two sons, James L. Tucker and Randolph L. Tucker, both of Dublin; two sisters, Ruth Robinette Harstvedt of Melbourne, Fla., and Frances Robinette Tate of Big Stone Gap, Va.; and three grandchildren, Mary C. Tucker of Hickory, N.C., Hannah K. Tucker and Roland W. Tucker both of Dublin. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Dublin Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Susan Cyre officiating. Interment will be in the Dublin Town Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Nettie Simpkins, also a son, Sidney E. Wilson, her husbands, Latha Wilson and Ernest Turman, and two brothers, Waddie and Marvin Simpkins. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Seibert Simpkins, Snowville; a son, Merle Wilson, Hiwassee; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Wilson; two brothers, Hampton Simpkins, Radford and Harless Simpkins, Salem; two sisters, Ruby Simpkins and Reva Simpkins, both of Roanoke; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at The DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with Rev. Neil Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Family Cemetery, Pulaski County. Mrs. Roxie Ann TURNER, formerly of Pulaski, died in Wytheville Wednesday morning.
Surviving are one granddaughter, Mrs. Walter FRYE, Radford, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Henry Holt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Barnett’s Funeral Home until 1 p.m.

Henry Thomas Turpin, one of the oldest and best know resident of the county (Pulaski), living on the Leas Mine Road, about 2 miles from Hiwassie, died Saturday. Death was due to paralysis, he having been stricken on Friday while about his duties near the house. For a number of years he has been overseer of the poor in Hiwassie District.
His aged widow (Lutitia S. Showalter Turpin) and several children all away from home survive him. He was about 75 years of age. The funeral service was held Sunday, the body being buried in the cemetery at Max Creek.

TYSON, Joanna Lee Bentley, 66, of 4538 Old Tavern Road, Pulaski, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 16, 2003. She was born on March 25, 1936 in Pulaski and was the daughter of the late Charles R. Bentley and Mary Bryant Bentley. She was preceded and welcomed to Heaven by her three grandchildren, Katie Bryant, Nathan and Justin. She was a graduate of Maury High School Class of 1955 and resided in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach area and retired to her home in Pulaski. She was an active member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a member of the Good Neighbor Club. She would have celebrated her 48th wedding anniversary on March 26, 2003. Surviving are husband, T. Grant Tyson, Jr.; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mike Carey, Ann and Brett Paciulli; son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Lori Tyson; sister and brother-in-law, Melba and Billy Price; grandchildren, Jesse, Jeremy, Megan, Channing, Blake, Tyler and Meredith. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Family Worship Center (First Pentecostal Holiness Church) Memorial Drive, Pulaski with Dr. C.R. Conner officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski. UMBERGER Harry Garfield, Jr., 82, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, January 12, 2000 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Harry G., Sr. and Lois Topham Umberger and was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He retired from the Keebler Biscuit company with 25 years of service and was the former manager of the Rural Retreat Lake for seven years. He was also formerly a school bus driver and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He is survived by, his wife of 62 years, June Hampton UMBERGER, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Sonny SILVERS of Vinton and Tess and Buddy UMBERGER of Forest; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Diane UMBERGER of Wytheville; six grandchildren, Jeffrey UMBERGER, Karen SILVERS, Amy SKAFF, Andy SILVERS, Chip UMBERGER and Cheryl ALDERMAN; six great-grandchildren, Sydney UMBERGER, Logan SKAFF, Chelsea UMBERGER, Haley ALDERMAN, Joshua ALDERMAN and Allison ALDERMAN; two sisters, Mary WHITE of Wytheville and Emily ROW of Crockett; several nieces and nephews also survive. Georgia Blankenship Underwood, 83 of the Little Creek Community, Dublin went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 27, 2003 from Asbury Place, Wytheville. She was born August 30, 1919 in Giles County, Va., the daughter of the late Millard Filmore and Bessie Isora Radford Blankenship. Also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Victor Underwood.
She is survived by one brother, Wade D. Blankenship and wife Wanda, Bland; one sister, Sadie White, Bland; brothers-in-law, Hobert Clark, Ballard, W. Va., Dailey Underwood, Pulaski, Clifford Underwood, Dublin; sisters-in-law, Opal Deck, Dublin, Alva Suttle, Dublin, Vivian Waldron, Narrows; several nieces and nephews. VANCE, Harold Edward, 72, of 187 Sinking Creek Road, Pembroke, died at his home Friday morning, April 4, 2003. Born in King, West Virginia on February 16, 1931, he was a son of the late Kenneth M. and Blanche Kale Vance. He was a retired dispatcher for Norfolk-Southern Railroad in Roanoke and was a member of Pembroke First United Methodist Church. Two brothers, Carl and Virgil Vance, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Oma Toler Vance; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Ronald Gupton of Pulaski, Barbara and Kevin Dunbar of Goodview; two grandsons, Nathaniel and Matthew Dunbar; a brother, Kenneth Vance of Flat Rock, N.C.; and several sisters and brothers-in-law. Memorial services will be conducted Sunday, April 6, 2003 at 3 p.m. in the Pembroke First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill McClung, and the Rev. Raymond Kelley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the services. The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is serving the Vance family.

Everett Wooling Vaughan, 93, of Pulaski, died late Friday evening June 13, 2003 in Pulaski Community Hospital. Born February 17, 1910 in Pulaski, he was the son of the late Minnie R. Vier Vaughan and George Letcher Vaughan. Mr. Vaughan was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pulaski, and was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in W.W.II., and was a retired foreman in the maintenance department at Radford Army Ammunition Plant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Holliday Vaughan; three brothers, Julian Vaughan, Eugene Vaughan, and Alvin Vaughan; one half brother, George Waddell, a half sister, Cleo McKim; and one sister, Omah V. Schrader. He is survived by one son, Daryle D. and his wife Helen Vaughan of Woodbridge, Va.; and one daughter, Violet V. Napier of Fredericksburg, Va. Also survived by five grandchildren, Norma Shull, Anita Thorpe, Michael Napier, Mark Vaughan, and Timothy Vaughan, ten great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 18, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pulaski with the Rev. Dr. C.R. Conner officiating. New River Valley Medical Center. He was born July 5, 1905 at White Gate, Va.
the son of the late John Covington and Julia Thompson Vest. He was also
preceded in death by his wives, Willie Peery Vest and Mary Gillespie
Hetherington Vest; a daughter, Barbara V. Johnson; a brother, Luther Powell
Vest; a half sister, Lucille Buchanan. He was a member of the Mt. Zion
United Methodist Church, the White Gate Ruritan Club, was retired from
Radford Army Ammunition Plant, and was a life long farmer. He was a
wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by two
daughters and son-in-law, Dorothy Louise Vest of Marion, Judy and Otis
Feaganes of Staunton; a stepson, John Hetherington and wife, Donna, of
Lexington, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Rev. Jo Ellen Hetherington of Roanoke,
Vicki Hetherington of Salem; two brothers, John C. Vest, Jr. of Pembroke,
Ross M. Vest of White Gate; five sisters, Wilma V. Blackburn of Cloverdale,
