Head for the Vaugueux

Walk along the castle wall to the Vaugueux area, a dry valley below the rocky outcrop on which William the Conqueror established his castle. Pause a minute to get your bearings. You are on rue de Geôle. Keeping the castle on your left, walk to the corner and follow the castle wall, turning left on rue Montoir Poissonnerie, then left on Avenue de la Liberation.

Cross the street on the pedestrian crosswalk, then walk left, then right, then left, circling around to rue du Vaugueux, a short, quiet, but very pretty street in the historic center, with buildings dating back to the Middle Ages. This popular area is worth visiting, both for its history and because it has retained its mediaeval charm.
