BRISBANE CITY COUNCIL – BRISBANE HISTORY GRANTShttp://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/community/grants-awards/arts-history/brisbane-history-grants Funds available: For organisations – Community History Grant: $5,000 to $20,000 For individuals – The Lord Mayor’s Helen Taylor Research Award for Local History: $20,000 Closes: Check website for 2016 dates. Purpose: The Community History Grants support projects that increase the community's access to, and appreciation of Brisbane's history and heritage; and projects that raise the profile and accessibility of Brisbane's history and heritage. The Lord Mayor’s Helen Taylor Award for local History supports history students and independent researchers undertaking history or heritage projects which have a focus on informing or educating the public about local history or heritage. Eligible applicants: Organisations - Not-for-profit incorporated organisation, or one sponsored by an incorporated organisation that is able to accept responsibility for the project. Individuals - History students or independent researchers whose work focuses on the history of Brisbane or an aspect of it. Eligible projects: Projects that can demonstrate that the grant will be used for community benefit with a public outcome and occur within the Brisbane Local Government Area (LGA) or are able to demonstrate benefits to Brisbane LGA. Ineligible projects: Retrospective funding, private commercial ventures, an organisation’s general running costs, equipment alone, event or conference sponsorship, fundraising projects, prizes and award ceremonies, projects that are core program funding responsibility of another level of government, debt payment, staff wages. Check the website for future dates. Purpose: The Creative Sparks program is a joint initiative of Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland. The grant program aims to:
There are three funding categories:
Eligible applicants: Individual professional artists, artsworkers, cultural workers and project coordinators who are residents of the Brisbane local authority area and are permanent residents or Australian citizens. Incorporated arts or cultural organisations based in the Brisbane LGA. Unincorporated organisations, auspiced by an incorporated body that is based in the Brisbane LGA. Ineligible projects: Political organisations or activities with a political purpose, Higher Education Contributions and/or Australian academic course work leading to formal qualifications within Australia; amateur arts activities; purchase of capital items; fundraising events including charitable events; operational or project funding for organisations or companies; retrospective funding; government, educational institutions and employees of these institutions; publishing costs; food and alcohol costs associated with an event. BRISBANE CITY COUNCIL – LORD MAYOR’S YOUNG & EMERGING ARTISTS FELLOWSHIPhttp://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/community/grants-awards/arts-history/lord-mayors-young-emerging-artists-fellowships Funds available: Up to $20,000 Closes: Check website for 2016 details. Purpose: To develop creatives whom wish to join national or international training and development programs through participation in training programs, mentorships, or structured experiences. There are two funding categories: International Network - For the completion of training and professional development programs that support creative development. Sister Cities Network - For the completion of training and professional development programs that support creative development in at least one of Brisbane's nine sister cities. Eligible applicants: Independent artists and cultural workers between 17 and 30 years of age who are residents of the Brisbane local authority. Applicants must be nominated by a recognised individual or organisation from within the arts and cultural sector. Eligible projects: The fellowship activity can include travel and study, secondment to an organisation, tuition, professional mentoring and instruction or a combination of these activities. Ineligible projects: Higher Education Contributions and/or Australian academic course work leading to formal qualifications within Australia, fundraising events including charitable events and retrospective funding. BRISBANE CITY COUNCIL – INNOVATION AWARD http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/community/grants-awards/arts-history/innovation-award Funds available: There is one Innovation Award of $25,000 Closes: The Innovation Award is now closed for applications. Check website for future dates. Purpose: To encourage a creative workforce and innovative enterprise. The award contributes to the Creative Brisbane Creative Economy 2013-22 strategy and supports the development of creative enterprises by encouraging the sharing of ideas to inspire new work and innovative approaches to the creative economy of Brisbane. Eligible applicants: Artists, artsworkers, producers, curators, collectives and arts or creative organisations; working in any artform or creative industry. BRISBANE CITY COUNCIL – LORD MAYOR’S SUBURBAN INITIATIVE https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/community/grants-awards/community-grants/lord-mayors-suburban-initiative-fund Funds available: The minimum grant is $250 (GST exclusive) and the maximum is $10,000 (GST exclusive) per organisation. (Each Council Ward is allocated $55,000 for community projects undertaken within that ward. The Lord Mayor has an allocation of $55,000 for community projects that involve multiple wards). Closes: 17 June 2016, or when each ward has fully spent their allocated budget (whichever comes first). Purpose: The Lord Mayor's Suburban Initiative Fund supports projects that build stronger communities in Brisbane. Projects must help to achieve Brisbane’s aspiration to be a friendly and safe, active and healthy, clean and green or vibrant and creative city. Eligible applicants: Applications for funding can be made by community organisations for local projects, or by Councillors to support community events, activities or capital projects. Eligible projects: Eligible projects include projects such as; community events, equipment hire, community facility improvements and equipment, funding towards community sporting organisations equipment and activities. CHURCHILL FELLOWSHIP http://www.churchilltrust.com.au/application-process/how-to-apply Funds available: Average fellowship $25,000 Closes: 15 May 2016 Purpose: To enable Australian citizens from all walks of life to travel overseas to undertake an analysis, study or investigation of a project or issue that cannot be readily undertaken in Australia. Eligible applicants: Australian citizens over the age of 18. There are no prescribed qualifications, academic or otherwise, for the award of most Churchill Fellowships. Merit is the primary test, whether based on past achievements or demonstrated ability for future achievement in any walk of life. Benefit to Australia is a significant factor. The fellow will gain experience in classroom, community and online strategies for delivering quality design education. The fellowship fosters the exchange of knowledge and skills between the Cooper Hewitt and Queensland teaching communities. Eligible applicants: The fellowship is open to Australian citizen/resident teachers who live and work in Queensland. Applicants must be registered and working as a state or non-state schoolteacher.
