Career Highlights:Oscar De La Hoya is one of the world’s most celebrated boxers and has won 10 world titles in six different weight classes…Nicknamed “The Golden Boy,” De La Hoya became a household name when he became a gold medalist at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona…De La Hoya’s amateur career included a 223-5 record (163 by knockout)…In 1989 he won the National Golden Gloves title in the bantamweight division, and at 17 years old in 1990, he won the U.S. National Championship at featherweight, followed by being the youngest boxer to win gold at the Goodwill Games…De La Hoya made his professional debut in 1992 by scoring a first round TKO and never looked back…He won his first world title at age 20, defeating Jimmy Bredahl in the 10th round of the WBO Junior Lightweight Title…He defended the title once beating Giorgio Campanella in three rounds…De La Hoya went on to capture the WBO Lightweight Title in 1994 knocking out Jorge Paez, then in his title defense he defeated John-John Molina by unanimous decision…He went on to defend the title several times…De La Hoya won the WBC Light Welterweight Title with a TKO over Julio Cesar Chavez in 1996 and defended the title in 1997 before moving on the capture the WBC Welterweight Title later that year over Pernell Whitaker……De La Hoya was The Ring’s “Fighter of the Year” in 1995 and Ring Magazine’s top-rated Pound for Pound fighter in the world in 1997 and 1998…He went on to capture titles in the Light Middleweight and Middleweight divisions…De La Hoya finished his professional career with a 39-6 record, with 30 wins by knockout…In 2004 he hosted a boxing reality television series on Fox titled “The Next Great Champ”…In 2005, De La Hoya founded Golden Boy Promotions, a national boxing promotional firm, which later acquired The Ring, KO Magazine, World Boxing Magazine and Pro Wrestling Illustrated from Kappa Publishing Group…The Staples Center Sports Arena unveiled a 7-foot bronze statue of De La Hoya, joining Magic Johnson and Wayne Gretzky in downtown Los Angeles…A member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame, De La Hoya published his autobiography, “American Son,” that same year.
Vinny Del Negro

Career Highlights:Vinny Del Negro finished his first season as Head Coach of the Los Angeles Clippers in 2011…He came to Los Angeles after having led the Chicago Bulls to two consecutive trips to the NBA Playoffs (2009 and 2010) and back-to-back 41-41 (.500) seasons...In the 2010 NBA Playoffs the Bulls lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games…In 2009, Del Negro and the Bulls had a first-round NBA Playoffs match-up versus the defending NBA Champion Boston Celtics…This NBA Playoff series proved to be one of the most exciting and entertaining in years as several of the games went to overtime before Boston prevailed in seven games...Prior to joining the Bulls, Del Negro spent two seasons in the Phoenix Suns front office, first as Director of Player Personnel and then as Assistant General Manager….Del Negro has extensive broadcasting experience too as he worked as an analyst for ESPN’s NBA Matchup program, ESPN Radio’s Gameday show, the San Antonio Spurs, and as a color analyst on Phoenix Suns radio broadcasts...An NBA player himself, Del Negro spent 12 years in the league and scored more than 7,000 regular-season points while he played for five NBA teams (Phoenix, Golden State, Milwaukee, San Antonio, Sacramento)…Del Negro averaged 10-plus points for four-straight seasons with San Antonio from 1993-97, including a career-best 14.5 points per game in 1995-96…He spent six seasons with San Antonio where he was instrumental in helping the team improve their record by 36 games during the 1997-98 season…Del Negro holds the Spurs franchise record for most consecutive free throws made, hitting 50 straight during the 1993-94 season…He left the NBA to play in Italy for two seasons (1990-92) and then signed with San Antonio when he returned…Del Negro played at North Carolina State under the late coach Jim Valvano where he earned All-ACC honors his senior season after averaging 15.9 points, 3.6 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game…He helped to Wolfpack to four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, including back-to-back trips to the Elite Eight (1885 and 1986)...He was also named the winner of the Everett Case Award as the MVP of the 1987 ACC Tournament, leading NC State to the championship that year….Del Negro had his N.C. State #14 jersey retired in January 2002.
Jack Del Rio
NFL Head Coach, Jacksonville Jaguars
Career Highlights: Jack Del Rio is in his ninth season as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, the seventh-winningest active head coach in the NFL…2011 is Del Rio’s 15th season as an NFL coach and his 26th in the league...Since taking over the Jaguars, the Jacksonville defense ranks 10th in the NFL in yards allowed (316.9 per game) and seventh in rushing (104.0) while the offense ranks third in rushing yards (130.5) and fourth in fewest turnovers (179) under Del Rio…In January 2010, Del Rio was a recipient of the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award, which is given to former student-athletes who excelled in their collegiate athletic endeavors and have succeeded in their chosen professions...Last season, on the strength of the rushing attack, Del Rio’s Jaguars shared first place in the AFC South in five of the final six weeks…Three Jaguars were selected to the Pro Bowl, the most in 10 years and individual team records were broken for touchdown passes, completion percentage and touchdown receptions…In 2009, the Jaguars were one of the youngest teams and were in playoff contention until the final week of the season…The Jaguars posted an 11-5 record in 2007 and earned their second playoff berth in three years, in addition to earning the franchise’s first playoff win since the 1999 season...In 2006, the Jaguars posted a 8-8 record and in 2005, the Jaguars won eight of their last nine regular season games, including four straight on the road en route to a 12-4 record and a Wild Card playoff berth…In taking over the Jaguars in 2003, Del Rio was the architect of a defense that improved to sixth overall in the NFL and second against the run…The improvement on defense was not a coincidence as Del Rio had one year earlier, while with the Carolina Panthers as defensive coordinator, took the Panthers defense from last in the league to second overall…From 1999 to 2001, Del Rio served as linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens, helping the team win Super Bowl XXXV over the New York Giants…The Ravens defense, under Del Rio’s guidance, finished second in total defense three times…Del Rio began his coaching career in New Orleans under Mike Ditka, spending two season with the Saints as assistant strength coach in 1997 and linebackers coach in 1998…In his NFL playing career, Del Rio was drafted by the Saints in the third round of the 1985 Draft and was named to the NFL’s All-Rookie team and earned the Saints’ Rookie of the Year Award...Following two seasons in New Orleans (1985-86), he played for the Kansas City Chiefs (1987-88), Dallas Cowboys (1989-91) and Minnesota Vikings (1992-95)…He led the Vikings in tackles three straight years and played in the Pro Bowl following the 1994 season…Del Rio finished his career with 1,078 tackles, 12 quarterback sacks, 13 interceptions and more than 100 consecutive starts between 1989-1994...Del Rio was a four-year starter at the University of Southern California (1981-84), where he earned consensus All-America honors as a senior and was runner-up for the Lombardi Award…He played in the 1982 Fiesta Bowl and was co-MVP of the 1985 Rose Bowl…He led the Trojans in tackles for a loss three years in a row and played in the East-West Shrine Game and the Japan Bowl…Del Rio finished his college career with 340 tackles, 58 tackles for loss, five fumble recoveries and one interception…Del Rio also batted .340 while playing catcher for the USC baseball team…He was a teammate of current San Francisco Giants pitcher Randy Johnson and former major league slugger Mark McGwire.
