the Georges Valley High School "Buccaneer" Boys Basketball Team, for its receiving the Western Maine Class C Good Sportsmanship Award for the 2003-2004 season. This well-deserved honor was presented to this fine group of accomplished young men by the Maine Principals' Association. It is the first time in 20 years that the award has been bestowed upon the school. Under the direction of Coach Nick Depatsy, the team has participated in the Western Maine Class C finals twice in the last 3 years and has established itself as a formidable squad on the basketball court. Members of the team include: Sam Rector, Ryan Holbrook, Brett Hutchinson, Nicholas Miller, AJ Staples, Richard Philbrook, David Wilgus, Mark Chamberlin, Max Johanson, Matt Judkins, Tommy Rogers and Zach Thorbjornson. Elizabeth W. Gerry, of Brewer, on the occasion of her 100th birthday. Mrs. Gerry was born March 9, 1904 in Littleton. A registered nurse, she worked in the operating room and also as a public health nurse. Mrs. Gerry was also associated with the Bangor District Nursing Association. Wife of Wyman P. Gerry, she has been a resident of Brewer for 60 years, now residing at the Ellen Leach Home. We congratulate her on this tremendous milestone and send along our best wishes; (HLS 1260)

Dr. Helene Reeves, of Auburn, who studied internal medicine and pediatrics and practiced public health medicine as a State of Maine District Health Officer for more than 20 years. She was born and raised in Vienna, Austria, where she was a serious student and gymnast, later pursuing a career in medicine and graduating from the University of Vienna Medical School. She fled Austria to Italy in 1939 and later sailed to America. She and her husband, Dr. Edward Reeves, eventually made their home in Auburn. She was renowned for her devotion to family as well as her warm hospitality to others, often hosting dinner parties graced with Viennese cooking, pastries and cakes. She loved to travel abroad, read poetry and garden and was noted for her courage, intelligence, boundless optimism and strength of character and her love for her granddaughter, Lara. Andrew Dolloff, of Gorham, Principal of Scarborough High School, who has been named 2004 Maine High School Principal of the Year by the Maine Principals' Association. Mr. Dolloff was cited for his leadership abilities, community participation, ethics, commitment to school improvement and professional growth as well as for his excellent rapport with students. He received his Bachelor's degree in secondary education from the University of Maine at Farmington and his Master's degree in administration from the University of Southern Maine. Mr. Dolloff taught at Dirigo High School and Lewiston High School and was Assistant Principal at Wiscasset High School. Mr. Dolloff was also director of student activities and athletics at Scarborough High School for 4 years. Constance Marie Coleman Flanagan, of Portland, beloved wife, devoted parent, world traveler and lifelong learner. Born in Brewer and a graduate of Bangor High School, she attended the United States Navy nursing program at Massachusetts General Hospital and proudly contributed to the war effort in World War II as a nurse at Eastern Maine General Hospital. After the war, she raised 8 children, instilling in all an eagerness for the challenge of life and a respect for civic and academic achievement. Over 30 years after World War II, she proudly achieved her Bachelor's of Nursing degree from St. Joseph's College in Windham and returned to her medical career at Mercy Hospital in Portland. Proud of her children's varied achievements in life, she devoted her later years to world travel and avid reading in world literature and American history. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband of 58 years, Thomas S. Carol Snow, of Wayne, on her retirement after 20 years as school bus driver for Union #42 and Community School District #10 schools. She has also served as a substitute teacher and a janitor and has worked in the kitchens. Ms. Snow organized a core group of bus drivers to a volunteer group known as "The School Bus Safety Group" to present school bus safety programs throughout the district. She and the group have lectured before the State School Bus Conference and traveled throughout the State to other school districts. It is through her efforts that school buses have reflective tape for enhanced safety. We acknowledge her dedicated service to her profession, her community and to the State of Maine and extend our congratulations and best wishes to her; (HLS 1274)

Dr. Walter A. Reiter, Jr., of Wayne, for his 13 years of service as a volunteer lake monitor on Pocasset Lake. In addition to monitoring the water quality of the lake, Dr. Reiter has participated in the Invasive Aquatic Plant Patrol training workshops and he has also hosted a local educational workshop about the threat of invasive species. He is a model of effective citizen involvement in the protection of Maine's lakes and ponds. We acknowledge his dedicated service to his community and to the State of Maine and we extend our congratulations and best wishes to him; (HLS 1275)

JoAnn Pike, of Auburn, on her retirement as Executive Director of the Good Shepherd Food Bank. The Good Shepherd Food Bank began in JoAnn's home in 1981. As founder, she learned food banking by doing it and taking her vision to provide services to nonprofit agencies and individual clients. It has grown substantially in every way: the quantity of food distributed, the degree of service provided, the public relations and recognition throughout the statewide community, along with a stable staff and volunteer force. The Good Shepherd Food Bank now distributes food to 468 nonprofit agencies throughout all 16 counties in the State. We commend JoAnn for her vision, dedication and commitment to serving others throughout the State and extend our sincere best wishes to her on the occasion of her retirement; (HLS 1276)

the Bangor Fire Department for its efforts to save the Bangor Masonic Temple Building throughout the weekend of January 16, 2004. Firefighters attempted to save the 135-year-old building by working around the clock, for more than 3 days in subzero temperatures. The 5-story building was built in 1868, and in 1990 the Bangor City Council designated it as part of the Main Street Historic District. It was the home to the Masonic Temple and its affiliated organizations, the Rising Virtue Lodge #10, St. Andrew's Lodge #83 and Scottish Rite Valley of Bangor and Bangor's chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star, Order of DeMolay the Order of the Rainbow, as well as the Masonic Learning Center, which offered free tutoring for children with dyslexia. Firefighters also worked to save 2 area businesses, the historic Yankee Shoe Repair and the Riverside Art Gallery. We commend the hard work of the Bangor firefighters who tried to save this vital piece of Bangor's history in those difficult conditions. While they were unable to save the building, they did contain the fire, saving the rest of Bangor's downtown buildings; (HLS 1277)
