Elective modules:

There are a range of these, reflecting current and emerging management issues. The elective modules are:


  • CB990 A Systems Approach to Managing Complexity

  • CB878 Strategic Social and Environment Management

All these electives will be offered at the Canterbury campus (subject to numbers) In Athens students will be asked for their preferences and a restricted offering will be made, but all Athens participants will be able to join the electives in Canterbury if required




14. Support for Students and their Learning

Support will be provided for all students with:



  • The induction module

  • Programme handbook

  • Programme and module guides

  • Access to the University’s library, including dedicated on-line resources, and to relevant websites.

  • The central support services of the University and the Business School

  • An academic support system giving advice on programme structure, academic difficulties, progression routes and individual progress.

  • The programme and module websites and the learning materials that they contain

  • Their learning set peers

  • The provision of feedback on learning tasks, both group and individual

  • Careers Advisory Service (Canterbury)

  • Unit for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (Canterbury)

Additional support for Athens students:



  • An small library at HMA which will contain all core texts and additional books as deemed necessary

  • Visiting academics to Athens will be able to provide a tutorial support system when they are ‘in country’ and through e-mail and conference calling when ‘out’ of country

  • The support of a dedicated Kent MBA in Athens programme director who will coordinate the academic components of the programme and act as ‘personal and academic tutor’ for all Athens participants.

  • Contact with academic staff, on a face-to-face basis, at the ‘mini-block’ tuition, via the ‘on-line’ learning system and via telephone and e-mail contact

  • For the Athens students there will be regular face to face contacts with

module convenors delivering the programme and a dedicated KBS administrator

  • A dedicated ‘Athens’ student staff consultative committee




15.Entry Profile

Minimum requirements

  • An upper second class degree from a United Kingdom or other approved university, or an equivalent professional qualification.

  • At least three years’ relevant managerial work experience

  • Academic and professional references acceptable to the Postgraduate Admissions Office

  • For part-time modular executive students, the nature of this programme is such that all candidates must be able to demonstrate access to suitable ICT facilities on a ‘personal use’ basis. The precise requirements will vary over time as ICT continues to develop. Current requirements are detailed in the programme prospectus.

  • Applicants will be asked to complete GMAT with effect from Sep 2008.



Accreditation of Prior Learning


Only as far it gives an indication of academic ability. There will be no exemptions on the MBA programme. We will consider evidence of previous study which indicates ability successfully to follow the MBA programme. In particular, applicants who do not meet the degree/professional qualification requirement may be admitted subject to interview. A substantial period of business experience (>10 years) is required to compensate for lack of qualifications.

International applicants


In order to enter the programme you also need to demonstrate your proficiency in English and we ask for one of the following:

  • Average 6.5 in IELTS test, minimum of 6.0 in each aspect

  • A TOEFL score of at least 600 (written test) or 250 (computer test)

  • Minimum score of "B" in the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English or

  • A score of "A" in the Cambridge Advanced Certificate.

Mechanisms for the review and evaluation of teaching, learning, assessment, the curriculum and outcome standards

  • An on-line bulletin board that enables issues of general concern to be raised by individual students and be dealt with during modules

  • Student evaluation of all modules (on-line evaluation for web-based modules learning)

  • Reports to Postgraduate Staff/Student Consultative Committee
