II. MECHANICS

OF

RETROFITTING
A. Why Sedans
For the purpose of initial approach, calculations, ease of simulation and cheap practical experimentation, the choice of the ICE based vehicle to be retrofitted is the most common Sedan Class Vehicle. The Sedan is one of Indias most economical, ergonomic and common Sedan class vehicles. In order to push limits, the article intends to design and characterize a BLDC Motor that will be able to stipulate Sports Utility features on vehicles that are normally specialized for sedan class operation Engine wise, comfort and smooth flow. To address these features and to have a vehicle with multiple modes, generally seen in vehicles of higher range such as the SUVs or super cars, the article intends to create a getaway to provide the economic population of India with a sedan class vehicle, as common as the Sedan, to have multiple sport features, have high pickup speeds, is electrical and pocket friendly.
B. Parameters pertaining Retrofitting
There are various parameters that aid towards the evaluation and analysis of Retrofitting. The basic approach towards retrofitting is the calculations pertaining to the torque, speed and weight of the vehicle under consideration. During the retrofitting process, the Engine, fuel tank, crankshaft and other mechanical parts that help the operation of the Internal combustion engine are removed from the body leaving only the chassis. The weight of the chassis inclusive of wheels (odds pan out) is known as the Curb Weight of the vehicle. Successive additions to the chassis with components gives the Gross Vehicle weight of the vehicle under consideration which implies that during retrofitting, based on the type of motor, batteries that are implicated in the body, the total weight of the vehicle may either decrease or increase. The weight of the vehicle plays a very key role in the determination of vehicle performance and efficiency. The rating of the Internal Combustion Engine and the Electrical Motor are given in Table 1:
