Duties: The Mid North Region in line with the National Mental Health Strategy is funded to deliver a range of Mental Health Services to people who suffer serious mental illness, and to the people and community that support them, through treatment, continuing care and rehabilitation. Essential Minimum Qualifications: Registered as a Mental Health Nurse with the Nurses Board of South Australia and who holds a current practicing certificate.

The Nurse Unit Manager gives and assists other nurses to give safe, cost effective, direct care to patients/clients and facilitates staff development and client/patient teaching. The Nurse Unit Manager promotes research and critical analysis in order to ensure that client care standards are achieved. The Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for the negotiation of and compliance with the Unit budget according to defined budgetary benchmarks. The Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for the management of human and material resources and the co ordination of clinical services within the designated unit to ensure the provision of quality nursing care.

Special Conditions: Position located at Oodnadatta 680 kms from Port Augusta 200 kms from Coober Pedy. Shared 'On call" with the other nurse and/or Aboriginal Health Workers to provide emergency 24 hours health service cover. Ambulance retrieval of patients from outlying areas including the Simpson Desert. Such retrievals are done in company with a second vehicle, usually police. Communication via radio and satellite phone. Regular clinic visits to cattle station homesteads, Aboriginal outstations. Work may be physically demanding. All travel is in 4WD vehicle and on dirt roads. This is a contract position for 12 months with the possibility of an extension.
