Main project features: Project 4 of the CAREC Transport Corridor I within Kazakhstan territory entails the upgrading of a two-lane road to a four lane Category IB. The construction is being undertaken on the first component, which is the 49km Blagoveshenka-Aspara Section which starts at km 261+500 to 310+500 of the “Almaty-Korday-Blagoveshenka-Merke-Taskent-Termez” Road.
Position held:Lead International Consultant for Road Transport civil-infrastructure environment and safety
Activities performed:Led in planning the work and organizing the environmental team to: (1) Manage and coordinate the update, implementation and monitoring of an initial Environmental Examination or Environmental Impact Assessment (IEE/EIA) as required by the Financing Framework Agreement (FFA) and loan agreement. (2) Set-up internal monitoring system on the project’s environmental issues and requirement. (3) Coordinate relevant parties, including civil society organizations, on environmental requirements of the Project. (4) Closely monitor project sites against unexpected environmental impacts. (5) Monitor Contractor’s compliance to EMP. (6) Advice the Project Director and PMC on environmental problems and /or requirements and recommend mitigation measures. (7) Prepare report on EMP implementation and contractors compliance. (8) Take part in project performance monitoring and evaluation activities, develop key indicators, and perform surveys. (9) Assess and prepare capacity building program on environmental issues.
