9. Benchmarking with similar programmes

offered internationally (EU)

The professional bachelor programme “Business logistics” offered by the Faculty of Engineering Economics of Riga Technical University has been basically benchmarked with similar programmes of tertiary educational establishments of the European Union. Similar programmes are offered by:

Oxford Brookes University (United Kingdom) (Appendix 13)

Aston University (United Kingdom) (Appendix 16).

When comparing the Programme submitted for accreditation with the programmes offered abroad, it may be concluded that they are similar. This allows to draw the following conclusions:

  • Nominal duration of studies is generally the same as in the Programme offered by RTU –3 - 4 years;

  • Writing and defence of the Bachelor thesis is scheduled for the final semester;

  • The RTU Programme and those offered by tertiary institutions internationally are similar as to their value in credit points.

The Programme also includes similar subjects, e.g., information technologies, business communication, economics of entrepreneurship, accounting, mathematics, statistics, marketing etc.

The 3rd and 4th years of studies are devoted to the specialisation chosen. Specialisation majors in various countries are different; the most popular that are similar also to those offered by the RTU Faculty of Engineering Economics are: marketing, e-commerce, logistics, international economic relations etc.
