2017 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)
Dear Parents,
The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) will be taking place again this year and includes English, Writing, Spelling, Science, Mathematics and Digital Technologies which in previous year has been called Computer Studies. The Competitions take place each year in schools throughout Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the Asia / Pacific region and your child is invited to participate. The competitions take place during school hours on the school grounds. The Competitions are an initiative of Educational Assessment Australia (EAA) of the University of New South Wales and will be held on the following dates:
DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES Years 3-6 Tuesday 23rd May (entry fee $11.00)
SCIENCE Years 2-6 Tuesday 30th May (entry fee $11.00)
WRITING Years 3-6 Monday 12th June (entry fee $20.00)
SPELLING Years 2-6 Wednesday 14th June (entry fee $15.00)
ENGLISH Years 2-6 Tuesday 1st August (entry fee $11.00)
MATHEMATICS Years 2-6 Tuesday 15th August (entry fee $11.00)
The Competitions provide an opportunity for students in Years 2-6 (please note: not all tests are available to Year 2 students) to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation. It provides schools and teachers with comprehensive reporting of results and also gives parents helpful information regarding their child's performance in each subject or KLA. All students receive a Certificate and an individual Student Report indicating which questions they answered correctly, as well as the average mark for their state. The Student Report is also useful for highlighting student strengths and weaknesses in the skills and processes of that subject or KLA. The documents are suitable for inclusion in a portfolio.
Please return the attached slip (1 entry form per CHILD) and correct money (cash only) for entry fee(s) to me in a clearly marked, sealed envelope via the morning class trays. no other forms of payment will be accepted. entries cannot be accepted after WEDNESDAY MORNING 22ND MARCH 2017.
