LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Participants will beceome more knowledgeable on the accommodation needs related to languageand technology as it relates to hearing loss.

  • Participants will learn more about the cultural implications of Deafness.

  • Particpants will increase their knowlege of the impact hearing loss has on life.

  • Particpants will learn techniques to increase the effectiveness of communication with people that have hearing loss.

Our expert Panel includes: Tracy Bumgarner, MRC CRC, and Karen Clark MRC CRC, from Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, Durkhy Hague from Georgia Center on Deafness and Hard of Hearing, Juan Posada with Deaf Services from Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Development Disabilities, and Dana Tarter M Ed. from the Georgia School for the Deaf.

Tracy Bumgarner

Karen Clark serves as a Special population’s consultant in the eastern quadrant of our state with GVRA. Her background includes a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Kentucky, (Go Wildcats), and Orientation to Deaf-Blindness Graduate Certificate from Northern Illinois University.

Durkhy Haque is an Employment Specialist at Georgia Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Decatur, Georgia. She assists Deaf-Blind, Deaf, and hard of hearing clients in gaining job readiness training and personal social adjustment training. She educates employers on how to work with Deaf and/or hard of hearing employees at the job site. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from University of Georgia.



Juan Posada-

Dana Tarter teaches middle school science and students with dual sensory loss at the Georgia School for the Deaf. She has her Master's in Special Education from Jacksonville State University, and a graduate certificate in Infants, Toddlers, and Family Counseling for early intervention from Gallaudet. As the president of the Georgia Association of the Deaf Blind, Dana travels worldwide and presents to increase awareness of Deaf Blind citizen’s needs.
