2009 Leadership in Technology Award
Each year the Association of Women in Computing–Houston Chapter honors outstanding Houston area women pursuing careers in technology. The honorees are chosen through a formal nomination and selection process. The 2009 Leadership in Technology Award winners will be honored at the Top Houston Women in Technology Gala on June 6, 2009, at the Houston Inter-Continental Hotel. Proceeds from this annual Gala fund the Kathi Bowles Scholarship Fund.
Please help us continue this tradition of recognizing exceptional women in technology by submitting nominations for this prestigious award.
Qualifications for Nomination

  • Employment/career progression – demonstrated leadership qualities and professional achievement

  • Education level attained – undergraduate, graduate, or doctorate degrees; professional development

  • Major accomplishments – contributions to technology or innovation (such as patents, software development, presenting papers, mentoring, or adding value to technology field)

  • Community involvement – ways that nominee gives back to the community, such as participating in women’s organizations or other professional organizations, serving on corporate or advisory boards, participating in special interest groups, contributing time and resources to philanthropic activities, and other community service

  • Invitations to an Honoree reception in May 2009

  • Biography development by a professional consultant

  • Professionally produced photographs

  • Press releases

  • Honoree sponsor listing in the 2009 Gala Program

  • A table for 10 and valet parking for Honoree at the Awards Gala

  • Engraved award presented at the Gala

  • Complementary one-year membership in AWC

Nominee submission: Deadline: February 28, 2009

Nominees are required to submit an official nomination form, a current resume, and a short bio. 

Nominations submitted without this information will not be considered.
An $1,800 sponsorship fee must be pledged at the time of the nomination. This fee is typically paid by the honoree’s employer or by another sponsor, such as a vendor or supplier. A significant portion of the sponsorship fee will be deposited in the Kathi Bowles Scholarship Fund.
The Kathi Bowles Scholarship Fund recognizes women pursuing a degree in a technology field and demonstrating outstanding service and leadership to their high school, university, or community. The AWC Houston chapter scholarship was established in 1988 to honor the memory of one of its members, Kathi Bowles. Over the past 10 years, AWC has provided over $70,000 in scholarships for female students pursuing technology degrees.

I understand that the information included on the nomination form will be considered confidential and will only be used by the AWC honoree selection committee.
I understand that the selection committee will use the information I provide on this application in selecting award recipients, and I consent to use of this information for such purpose.
If I am selected as a Leadership in Technology award recipient, I hereby authorize the use, in connection with the Top Houston Women in Technology Gala, of my name, my company’s name, photographs, video recordings, and audio recordings of me from whatever source. I agree that no compensation shall be due me or my company for such usage. I further understand that if I am selected as an award recipient, a sponsorship fee in the amount of $1,800 is required by April 30, 2009.
