CN51 Android Release Known Issues -
Upon re-boot, occasionally the scanner and/or camera will not function and may resturn to normal operation upon a subsequent reboot.
Resolution: Install CN51-6.0-72_74.01.01.0006_SP1.3_signed.zip available from Downloads, OS/Firmware/Drivers section.
CN51 Android Procedures
IMPORTANT NOTICES
Please review the following notices prior to proceeding with the upgrade.
The upgrade of CN51 to Android 6.0 Marshmallow cannot be reversed. Once upgraded, the device will only run Android 6.0 and cannot be changed back to the previous operating system.
Do not attempt to upgrade pre-production CN51 devices to Android 6.0. Pre-production units contain labeling indicating they are “Not for Sale”.
All user apps and data will be lost during the upgrade process. Ensure you have backed up data you wish to retain.
You need obtain the license for each upgrading device.
If upgrading CN51 devices via a Mobile Device Management (MDM) product, follow the instructions provided by the MDM vendor.
Prepare:
CN51 device with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system
Upgrade OS: full_CN51-ota-74.01.01.0006.zip.
CommonES: Honeywell_CommonES_Android_ReleaseMelbourne_4.01.00.3566.zip

OS installation

Copy downloaded full_CN51-ota-74.01.01.0006.zip to a microSD card connected to a PC. Alternately, copy the downloaded file to the External SD card pre-installed on CN51 from a PC via USB MTP or other method

If necessary, power off the device and insert the SD card

Boot into the Recovery Menu

Release the power I/O key and keep the other keys pressed until the green android robot is visible on the screen.

Select the recovery mode from that screen by using the left side keys to scroll up and down and pressing VOL+ to confirm

Once in recovery, if you do not see the text menu, activate the menu by pressing the red square key in the upper right of the keyboard.

Select ‘install update from external sdcard’ (using volume or arrow keys) and press enter key

Select the update zip filename full_CN51-ota-74.01.01.0006.zip

Select ‘Yes – Install’

After update, select ‘reboot system now’

After booting into OS, check Settings About phone Build number, to make sure the version you flash were updated. (Below is just a example, you will see the build version that you upgraded)
Common ES packages installation -
Obtain CommonES Honeywell_CommonES_Android_ReleaseMelbourne_4.01.00.3566.zip from the Downloads/Application section

Copy the zip file into IPSM partition through USB MTP protocol, the path is honeywell/autoinstall/. Create the folder if you don’t have it in your IPSM partition

Reboot the device, The device will check ES package in IPSM/honeywell/autoinstall/ after boot.

If the ES package is detected and need install, the system will prepare the installation for ES package

Then a reboot will happen, the device will start the installation from recovery

After the installation finishes, it will boot to OS

Check whether ES package is installed successfully, we will see a Demo application appear in your application list.
Licensing Installation:
On an unlicensed CN51 Android 6.0 device, the watermark ‘unlicensed software version…’ will be displayed on the screen as below.
Obtaining License: Order license from pricebook PN: 454-077-001. Follow instructions accompanying the license entitlement to create a license XML file using the Intermec License Manager (ILM) tool. ILM is available for free download from the Intermec web site. If upgrading multiple CN51s, all applicable serial numbers may be included in a single XML file that is distributed to all devices.
License installation

Connect CN51 device with PC via Transfer files (MTP) USB connection.

Copy the license bundles xml file (e.g. CN51 Android 6.0 License.xml) into the root directory of Internal Storage (e.g. Computer\CN51 QCF\Internal storage)

Reboot the device.

The license will be installed successfully in few seconds once the device boots into desktop. Then the watermark and notification will be removed.
Note: The license file copied into internal storage at Step 2 will be deleted immediately once the license is installed. And license will not be deleted if you do the factory reset.
