On Tuesday, November 14th, 2017 at approximately 7:59PM the Egg Harbor Township Police Department responded to the area of 1029 Ocean Heights Avenue, in the Cardiff section of the township, for a motor vehicle crash.

A 2014 Nissan Frontier, being operated by Osvaldo Artis, age 30 or Millville, was traveling west on Ocean Heights Avenue, approaching the curve in the roadway at Miry Run (the Egg Harbor Township and Hamilton Township Border). Investigation determined, a 1999 Ford Ranger, being operated by Krystal Maxwell-Horne, age 27 of Mays Landing, was traveling east on Ocean Heights Avenue, in the west bound lane. As a result a head on collision occurred between both vehicles.

Mr. Artis sustained moderate injury and was transported by Ambulance to the Atlanticare Regional Medical Center’s Atlantic City Campus- Trauma Unit for treatment of his injuries. As a result of the crash, Ms. Maxwell-Horne was ejected from her vehicle and sustained multiple traumatic injuries. She was transported to the Atlanticare Regional Medical Center’s Atlantic City Campus-Trauma Unit, by Atlanticare’s “Medevac 4” helicopter.

Agencies that responded to and assisted at the scene include the Cardiff and Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Companies, the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad, the Hamilton Township Police Department, the Hamilton Township Ambulance Squad, and Atlanticare Paramedics. Ocean Heights Avenue was shut down for approximately 3 hours during the investigation.

Motor vehicle summonses were generated charging Ms. Maxwell-Horne with Driving While Impaired, Driving While Suspended, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Failure to Wear a Seatbelt. Criminal Charges are pending further investigation. The crash is being investigated by Officer Patrick Daly, Officer Louis Poletis, and Officer Joseph Griffiths of the EHT Police Traffic Safety Unit.
