Purpose of the role
To help develop the Global Channels’ content delivery strategy through the effective negotiation of rights and content for BBC Worldwide’s commercial channels across Western Europe. You will be responsible for supplying cleared and cost-effective programming from within BBC Worldwide’s catalogue.
Accountabilities
Manage the execution of the Global Channels volume deals with the various sales teams and ensure that all content is clear and delivered in a timely fashion according to deadlines.
Build and maintain close relationships with teams across the region, Branded Services and the Content division, including Programming, Operations, Affiliate Sales and the WW investment teams, in order to secure content for the channels.
Oversee the processing of all deals and release of information to relevant departments (Scheduling, Media Supplies, Press, Creative Services, Legal and Finance).
Assist the Acquisitions Manager in developing an annual content acquisition plan for the division.
Work closely with the Acquisitions Manager on securing the best content for channels – primarily from BBC Worldwide but occasionally from outside distributors. Close involvement in the structuring of new channel budgets based on price point research and territory availability.
Support the Channels Distribution Team with any research required for new Channels on sales histories, available programming and current sales across genres. Assist in the contribution and appraisal of new business opportunities in terms of content.
Scope & Impact
The Programme Executive works closely with the Acquisitions Manager, as part of a broader team of 12, to oversee the regional Programming budget. The role acquires content for channels across CEMA (Central Europe, Middle East, Africa).
Strategic Planning & Decision Making
Buy-lists are agreed on a quarterly basis and must be delivered on time, within budget, under the supervision of the Acquisitions Manager. Programming strategy is planned up to a year in advance, but the Programme Executive must also always be prepared for last minute changes, so excellent time-management and being calm under pressure are essential skills for the role.
Relationships
This role is managed by the Acquisitions Manager and also works closely with the Content Assistant. The Programme Executive deals with the Scheduling team on a daily basis, and negotiates regularly with the regional sales teams to secure content. It will also require frequent contact with Operations, Marketing and Finance.
Knowledge & Skills
Essential:
Comprehensive knowledge of BBC WW programming catalogue and future programme investments.
Ability to multi task and keep track of large volumes of data, while remaining calm under pressure.
Strong organisations skills, ability to prioritise and demonstrate attention to detail.
Good team player, pro-active and able to demonstrate initiative.
Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with people at all levels.
Excellent IT Skills on basic systems e.g. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
Desirable:
Proficiency on Microsoft Excel at an advanced level.
Knowledge of internal BBC WW systems Zeus, Orac, CILS, Online Catalogue and Infocentre would be an advantage.
Education
Degree level (preferred but not required).
Professional Experience
Significant experience within Pay TV Channels business with experience of dealing with complex administrative tasks preferably within an Acquisitions environment.
Able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of content acquisition and rights within the BBC and TV industry in general. Prior deal negotiation experience essential.
Working knowledge of a range of territories, particularly within CEMA, and the competitive landscape and windowing structure within those territories.
Confident working with multiple channel programming budgets.
