NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE VISUAL ARTS – AUSTRALIAN ARTISTS’ GRANT

Funds available: Up to $500 for individuals and $1,000 for groups + GST

Closes: 13 February, 14 May, 13 August and 12 November 2016

Purpose: To provide assistance towards the costs of public presentation of visual and media arts, crafts and design.

Eligible applicants: A professional artist/group of artists (see NAVA’s definition of a professional artist). Applications for this grant must be prepared and submitted by the artist/s exhibiting, not their venue, agent or exhibition curator.
Eligible projects: This grant supports the production of new creative work; the presentation of work in a venue; residencies involving the production of new work/ presentation of new work; production and distribution of an artist’s publication or portfolio; setting up a website, and preparing a publicity campaign. The grant can cover, but is not limited to, artist fees, material and equipment, framing, freight, installation costs, insurance, opening costs, documentation, media photographs, media releases, opening costs, promotional printing, space rental, technical assistance and travel.

POZIBLE – CROWD FUNDING PROJECTS

Funds available: No set amount, you set the target funding.

Closes: Ongoing, you set the closing date or target.

Purpose: A crowdfunding platform and community-building tool for creative projects and ideas. It was developed to help people raise funds, realise their aspirations and make great things possible. 

How does it work: provides the platform for project creators to present their ideas to a connected audience, worldwide. If people love what you’re creating, they can support it by pledging money. Service fees are only charged if your target is met. 57% of all arts projects on Pozible are funded.



Eligible applicants: Individuals over 18 years, Groups and organisations.

Eligible projects: All Pozible crowdfunding campaigns must be projects. That is, the campaign must have a clearly defined outcome, timeframe and goal. Usually, this is a creative outcome. The project may also have a community outcome, an environmental outcome, an educational outcome, an innovative outcome. Projects must fit a Pozible category - eg Art, Comics/Graphic Novels, Community, Design, Event, Fashion, Film, Food, Game, Music, Journalism, Performance, Photography, Technology, Video, Writing, Craft

QUEENSLAND ANZAC CENTENARY GRANTS

Funds available: up to $80,000. Its expected most grants will be $15,000-$40,000

Closes: Applications for round four is expected to open later this year and will have a nomination period of seven weeks. An online workshop, hosted by the Chair of the grants program, will be held during this period to answer any questions regarding the application process.
Purpose: To assist and encourage Queenslanders to commemorate the service and sacrifice of men and women during the First World War. Projects include:

Community projects, including commemorative events, exhibitions research, education activities, restoration or enhancement of memorials. Grants are available for historical research and educational projects, the preservation and conservation of First World War history, the acquisition of First World War memorabilia, the restoration or enhancement of memorials and honour boards and public Anzac Centenary events



Eligible applicants: Organisations making an application must be operating on a not-for-profit basis with an Australian Business Number (ABN). They must also be one of the following: local council, tertiary institution, parents and citizens or parents and friends association, incorporated association or body (e.g. RSL, church or club). Generally applicants are expected to contribute 25% of overall budget.

QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT – RECONCILIATION AWARDS 2016

Funds available: $25,000 across five categories

Purpose: To recognise businesses and community organisations who are taking positive steps in advancing reconciliation in Queensland. Awards are offered in the following categories Business, Education, Community, Partnership and the Premier’s Reconciliation Award.

Eligible applicants: Nominations are open to individuals, businesses and community organisations operating in Queensland.

QUEENSLAND SMITHSONIAN FELLOWSHIP

Purpose: The Fellowship Program is aimed at fostering an interchange of knowledge and skills. It supports fellows from Queensland’s research, education and cultural sectors to visit a Smithsonian Institution facility in the United States and complete a project.

Eligible applicants: Applicant must be an Australian citizen or have residency in Australia and must be employed in a Queensland Government agency or statutory body, a Queensland-based research, educational or cultural institution (including universities, schools and museums) business or other organisation

QUEENSLAND WEEK SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

Purpose: Encourage Queenslanders to celebrate Queensland Week in a way that reflects the unique culture, heritage and aspirations of their own community by hosting events during Queensland Week.

Eligible applicants: Not-for-profit organisations, such as an incorporated association or local government. Larger or statewide organisations operating branches across a number of regions may submit one application per branch.

REGIONAL GALLERIES ASSOCIATION OF QUEENSLAND – ORGANISATIONAL GRANTS

Funds available: Up to $1,500 per organisation. It is expected that the organisation will make a contribution to the initiative (can be in-kind).

Eligible applicants: Only current members of Regional Galleries Association of Queensland and their paid staff or volunteers are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects: Grants to assist public galleries/museums to undertake organisational initiatives. These might include:

  • Costs towards improvements in the gallery/museum exhibition program such as touring exhibition fees and display improvements.

  • An appropriate consultant to work with the institution on skill development in areas such as Education and Public Programs; Exhibition Development; or Strategic Planning and Policy Development.

  • On-site training workshops and seminars in specialist areas such as volunteer recruitment, board management and gallery/museum practice.

Grants can be used towards conference registration fees, associated workshop fees, travel, accommodation and living expenses during the period of the conference.

STATE LIBRARY OF QUEENSLAND – JOHN OXLEY LIBRARY FELLOWSHIP

STATE LIBRARY OF VICTORIA – CREATIVE FELLOWSHIPS

Funds available: Fellows receive a grant of $12,500 for three months' research, space in a shared office that is accessible outside normal Library hours, and special access to collections and staff expertise. The State Library of Victoria offers a total of 12 grants.

Purpose: To provide artists and scholars with a unique and supportive environment in which to immerse themselves in SLV’s collections. SLV invite recipients to be inspired by, repurpose, transform or imaginatively respond to published or original sources, such as manuscripts, maps, music, newspapers, oral histories and rare printed material, in any way they choose.
Eligible applicants: Applicants may be individuals or be working in collaborative partnerships. They may include artists practising in any art form – such as the visual arts, new media, dance, musical performance or composition – and writers and scholars in any discipline or subject.

TOURISM AND EVENTS QUEENSLAND – QUEENSLAND DESTINATION EVENTS PROGRAM

Funds available: Destination event funding – single year funding for developing events seeking growth ($10,000 - $25,000).

Significant event funding – single year or up to 3-years of funding for events that can demonstrate a strong track record of growth or growth potential ($25,000 - $100,000 per year)

Purpose: The Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP), formerly the Regional Development Program (RDP), seeks to leverage the crucial link between events and the destinations in which they are staged, extending the flow of the economic, marketing and social benefits of events throughout metropolitan and regional Queensland.
Within this context, the aims and objectives of the QDEP are as follows:

  • Generate local economic activity and development in the host destination

  • Attract external visitation to the destination

  • Drive social and community outcomes for the host destination, noting the important link between community outcomes and economic benefits

  • Enhance the profile and appeal of the host destination.

Eligible applicants: Applicants must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and be either an Australian Corporation registered with ASIC or an Incorporated Association; or be a Queensland Government body.
Eligible activities: Marketing costs, Strategic plan development, Engagement of short-term specialised personnel, Hire of temporary infrastructure
Ineligible activities: Insurance or legal costs, capital or equipment costs, prize money, appearance fees and travel costs, sanctioning fees, entertainment, fulltime employment or administration costs. Check website for more details on eligible and ineligible events.

THE AMERICAN FRIENDS OF THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF AUSTRALIA & AMERICAN AUSTRAIAN ASSOCIATION – AUSART FELLOWSHIP

CREATIVE PARTNERSHIPS AUSTRALIA

Creative Partnerships Australia was established to offer a resource hub for the facilitation of business partnerships, social investment and philanthropy for the cultural and creative sectors.

Creative Partnerships will lead the exploration of new models of investment in the creative industries and stimulate partnerships between artists, business, private donors and the community to support sustainable creative industries in Australia.

PHILANTHROPY AUSTRALIA DIRECTORY OF FUNDERS

The Directory is an essential resource for not-for-profit organisations, charities and community groups. This resource provides an alphabetical listing of more than 350 trusts and foundations along with information on their purpose, fields of interest, contact details and other information.
