ACCOMMODATION Hotel Information We have negotiated special rates to be offered to Ibicus workshop participants at the following hotels:- Ibis Hotel, Al Barsha 390 AED per night inc. taxes, breakfast, WIFI (50 rooms available at this rate) Towers Rotana Hotel 690 AED per night inc. taxes and breakfast (70 rooms available at this rate) The Ibis is very close to the Mall of the Emirates and about 12 minutes drive from the workshop venue. The Towers Rotana is on Sheikh Zayed Road and about 24 minutes from the workshop venue. Bookings made direct with these hotels quoting ‘Ibicus’ will also include transport to and from the workshop venue on workshop days. How to book We would advise you to BOOK EARLY to secure these rates as there are a limited number of rooms available and cut-off dates to secure them. For either of the Hotels above, please print & complete the relevant booking form on the next pages and return it to the hotel as indicated. VISA INFORMATION Visas Remember that visa requirements can change with little or no notice. It is participants’ responsibility to check foreign entry requirements for travel by contacting your local embassy or consulate for the UAE. For passport holders of these nationalities below, visas are necessary but granted on arrival and at no cost. Your passport is stamped at immigration with a 30 day visa. Your passport should be valid for SIX months or more prior to the date of travel. VISA ON ARRIVAL Visas will be granted on arrival in the UAE for the following nationalities:
Citizens of the GCC nations of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia do not require a visa to travel to the UAE. VISIT VISA – you must have this before you travel If your nationality is NOT listed above, you need to apply for a visa before you travel. This is applicable for those with passports from Asian countries, African countries, Middle East Nationals (Excluding GCC Nationals), Nationals Not Included In Commonwealth Countries. Again, your passport must be valid for SIX months or more prior to the expiry date. FAQs What is included in the workshop fee? Tuition from workshop leaders, workshop materials and workbook, lunches and refreshments, admin support during the event. Transport to and from the workshop venue is included for participants who have booked our workshop hotel deals. Getting to Dubai Dubai International Airport is a busy airport with many destinations. How do I get from the airport to my hotel?
By far the easiest way is to take one of the many and reasonably priced taxis which are right outside the airport terminal. These are safe at any time of the day and single lady travellers are often offered a female driver. If you want to pre-book at any time (not required on arrival) then try The Dubai Taxi Corporation on +971 4 2080808 How do I get from my hotel to the workshop venue? If you have booked into one of the hotels with which we have negotiated special rates, via the contact details given in this booklet (see Hotel Information) then transport will be provided on workshop days and included in your rate. Is alcohol available in Dubai? Dubai’s licensing laws require venues serving alcohol be attached to hotels or a private clubs. It is illegal to drink in the street or in a public space. What will the weather be like in September in Dubai?
What should I wear? Casual dress, but respectful of the local culture. Can I access the internet at the school? WiFi is available in most areas of the school for your own smart phone/laptop. School ICT facilities are also available during break times. What’s the currency in Dubai? The currency is UAE is Arab Emirates Dirhams (AED). What’s the time difference? The UAE is 3 hours ahead of GMT. Do I need an electrical adaptor?
The electricity current is 220/240 volts, and requires 3 pin square plugs (so UK plugs work without an adaptor.) What do I need to bring? Any materials requested in advance by your workshop leader, including your subject guide (there will be no spare copies on site). Bring either electronic or paper versions as you prefer. Do I get a Certificate after the event? Yes, this will be available as a PDF document after the event. How do I evaluate the workshop? You will be emailed a link to complete an online evaluation form. Where are the best restaurants? You are never far from a restaurant in Dubai and all tastes are catered for. Prices vary greatly. Hotel meals can be pricy but convenient or try one of the many restaurant recommendation websites. What about excursions? See our excursions offer in this booklet. We hope that you will have time to explore some of the wonderful sights in Dubai. Alternative excursions may be on offer via your hotel concierge. Where are the best places to shop? Shopping is a pastime in Dubai whether in souks or malls. Academic Honesty ACADEMIC HONESTY IN PRACTICEi Category 3 (A One-Day Workshop for new & experienced IBDP Teachers) To be held at Victoria International School of Sharjah, Sharjah, UAE http://www.viss.ae/viss/Links/home.aspx OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE WORKSHOP Academic Honesty in the International Baccalaureate is a set of values and behaviours informed by attributes by attributes of the learner profile. In teaching, learning and assessment, principles of academic honesty serve to promote personal integrity, engender respect for the integrity of others and their work, and ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they acquire during their studies. This workshop provides an opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of academic honesty and develop skills to better support IB Diploma Programme students. The workshop sessions are structured so that there is a balance between understanding the different types of malpractice that exist and methods of detection which constitute a reactive approach, alongside the more proactive approach that schools can take in developing an academic honesty policy that both raises awareness of the issues and provides safeguards for students during their learning. RECOMMENDED AUDIENCE The workshop is suitable for IB DP Coordinators, IB TOK teachers and IB Extended Essay supervisors, all DP subject teachers and librarians. WORKSHOP AIMS The IB upholds principles of academic honesty and has an on-going commitment to the values and skills that promote personal integrity and good practise in teaching, learning and assessment, incorporating a practical understanding o IB expectations in regard of academic honesty through the discussion of real malpractice cases. All work submitted to the IB for assessment must comply with the IB General Regulations: Diploma Programme. The IB has clear definitions for malpractice (plagiarism, collusion, etc.) and candidates are expected to clearly and fully acknowledge any third party information used to produce their work. There are several tools on the internet that can be used to detect plagiarism (fee based services and free accessible options) which teachers and students can use to support a responsible approach to academic honesty. Academic Honesty The IB expects all IB World Schools to have an academic honesty policy to be shared and distributed together with the General Regulations: Diploma Programme to all students and his/her legal guardian(s).
