Important Traffic & Access Information: Cheltenham’s Half Marathon Sunday 15th September 2013
Cheltenham’s Half Marathon 2013 will be taking place on Sunday 15th September 2013. This is a brand new road race taking place in and around the Town Centre, expecting to attract around 2500 runners and many will be raising much needed funds for local and national charities.
The route has been designed to show-off all that is great about Cheltenham including the broad tree-lined avenues around Montpellier and Imperial Gardens, as well as a lap of the famous Cheltenham Racecourse. Opening the town’s streets to runners will cause some changes to usual traffic routes but every effort has been made to minimise the disruption caused.
Where closures occur well-signed diversions will be in place to ensure continued access around the city for motorists and public transport. Road closures will be operating from 7.00am in most areas, with a dynamic re-opening schedule from 09:30am to ensure roads are re-opened as soon as runners have completed that section of the route. All roads will be re-opened fully by 1.30pm.
Access around the perimeter of the town will be maintained with a ‘ring-road’ diversion in place using unaffected roads including: Southam Lane, Hales Road, Moorend Road, Shurdington Road, Up Hatherley Road, Princess Elizabeth Way, Hyde Lane. Please refer to Diversions & Traffic Access Routes map attached (on website?).
We very much appreciate the continued support from residents, local businesses, organisations and authorities in making this a much celebrated event in the town’s calendar. We are making every effort to raise awareness of the 2013 route and the road closures that will be in place to ensure a safe and traffic-free race. We look forward to welcoming you on race day and encourage you to support all the runners that are taking part!
