The Entrepreneurship and Theory of the Firm research area of the European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy (EAEPE) is pleased to announce its call for panels and papers to the 28th annual conference in Manchester this year. This research area is dedicated to providing a forum for the presentation of theoretical and empirical approaches, as well as substantive concerns, related to entrepreneurship and the existence, creation and evolution of firms.
In light of this year’s conference theme, E[2] research area would like to invite papers and proposals for panels that would explore entrepreneurship as an activity that lies at the core of the structural shift necessary for the growth and development of a knowledge-based economy. We would particularly encourage contributions that examine how entrepreneurship in specific industrial sectors can affect Europe’s growth potential and social well-being. In addition, we are keen on considering approaches that examine connections between entrepreneurial activity and innovation and explore how they can affect economic growth and industrial renewal. We also invite contributions on the impact and efficiency of public entrepreneurship policies. In that vein, the research area coordinators would suggest several basic guiding questions for panels and papers, however, potential contributors should not feel limited to these suggestions.

  • Not all new ventures could be regarded as innovative and not all new knowledge generate viable business opportunities

  • what is the impact of high-potential, knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship on economic and social development as opposed to ordinary or static entrepreneurship?

  • can entrepreneurship in low-tech/traditional sectors promote innovation and economic growth?

  • how can entrepreneurial activity in specific sectors such as the creative industries support the retention and somewhat the re-expansion of manufacturing activities?

  • what factors drive the internationalization of firms and especially SMEs?

  • The recent economic crisis turned out to be one of the most severe of the last decades, and that economic recovery seems to rather weak, new challenges have emerged at the policy level

  • how public policy measures can influence more effectively the diverse determinant factors of the demand and supply side of entrepreneurship and the role of institutions?

  • can a broader approach to entrepreneurial policy, taking into account systemic interdependencies be more effective than traditional policy approaches mainly focused on firm support through subsidies?

  • how can innovation policy and entrepreneurship policy areas be more effectively integrated in policy intervention?

  • how can entrepreneurship policy support the sustainability of SMEs?

  • Firm creation and growth are crucial for innovation, employment and structural change in modern economies. Entrepreneurial inputs are important to new firm creation and growth

  • what is the impact of human capital (e.g. education, experience) of founders on the innovative performance of young firms?

  • what is the impact of entrepreneurial team diversity on firm performance and growth ?

  • how does the international strategic orientation of young firms affects their innovation and growth potential?

  • how do the skills of workforce assist firms to absorb new technological and market knowledge and ultimately support their survival and growth?

Panel proposals should include between 3 and 4 paper proposals, a chair and a discussant. Paper abstracts should be between 300-600 words in length.

All proposals should be submitted over the EAEPE website (http://eaepe.org). Please indicate that your paper is intended for Research Area [E2] – Entrepreneurship and theory of the firm
