FS-03 (rear panel):
Calibration
*** It is important to maintain “standard transmission levels” to be compatible with other systems. The following illustration details the targeted send level.
-20 -15 -10 0 +5 +10 +15
FS-03 allows exceptional signal to noise ratio
Ideal noise floor – noise should not be detected at the distant end if the ambient noise floor is under -12dB
Ideal speech level – adjust trim pot so average speech peaks at +8 to +10
Dynamic range goal = >20dB
Some codecs have an audio meter that displays the transmission level. CTG technical support can assist in determining the proper send level over a video call. Ideally the level should be adjusted so voices peak between +5 to +10 dB.
There are two adjustments for the receive level. The speaker volume (fig 1) on the front of the FS-03 should initially be set to the 1:00 position. During calibration, the volume control indicator of the video codec should be set to mid-range.. Typically the video codec will display an on screen graphic that will indicate the incoming audio level when a volume key is pressed. The trim pot associated with “from codec” on the FS-03 should be adjusted so the incoming audio level is comfortable in the room. If the “clip” LED illuminates, the amplifier is being over driven and the trim pot should be lowered. If a program source like a DVD player is clipping the amplifier, the master volume knob on the front of the FS-03 should be lowered.

The levels on the FS-03 are “set & forget”. This means that once the system is calibrated the user should not adjust levels at the FS-03. Volume and microphone muting (privacy) should be performed with the remote control supplied with the codec or third party control system.
