Abstract Data integrity for the Cisco CallManager can be protected from power outages and thermal run-away by the utilizing the intelligent shutdown capabilities of APC’s InfraStruXure™. The configuration detailed in this document provides an overview of the APC solution for shutdown of Cisco’s CallManager 4.0.
Shutdown Setup for Cisco CallManager 4.0(2) The physical setup and network integration of the InfraStruXure components are made up of a combination of the following:
APC InfraStruXure-certified UPS (including Smart-UPS and the Symmetra Power Array)
The Smart UPS line of products can support loads from 420 VA to10,000VA. Double-conversion models and line-interactive models are available. All units ship with APC PowerChute Plus software.
Figure 2 shows the APC Symmetra Power Array.

The Symmetra Power Array is a user-scalable UPS system. Both power capacity and battery run time can be added in modular increments ranging from 2kW to 1.6mW. All Symmetra units ship with an APC Network Management Card. Figure 3 shows APC Network Management Cards and PCNS.

APC Network Management Cards install into any InfraStruXure-certified UPS. The cards require an assigned IP address and network connectivity. Models that can monitor temperature and humidity are available.
Shutdown parameters for Cisco CallManager are user definable. APC PCNS Version 2.2.1 is installed on the Cisco CallManager Media Convergence Server. The wizard based installation will auto-detect any Web cards connected to the network and corresponding UPS. Shutdown parameters need to be enabled through the PCNS user interface. PCNS is available as a free download at www.apc.com.
