Todd Brackett, of Nobleboro, who is the recipient of the Maine Sheriffs' Association Presidential Citation Award. The award is given each year to someone who has made significant contributions to the Maine Sheriffs' Association, someone whose contributions and hard work go above and beyond the call of duty. Sheriff Brackett is the President of the Maine Sheriffs' Association. He has rejuvenated the Maine Sheriffs' Association and has effectively promoted the association with the new tagline "One Team, One Mission." He is to be commended for representing the Maine Sheriffs' Association at the state level while maintaining his full-time job and responsibilities as the Sheriff of Lincoln County. We extend our appreciation to Sheriff Brackett for his commitment to the citizens of the State and congratulate him on his receiving this award; (HLS 894)

Katarina Voit, of Kennebunk. Mrs. Voit was born in Ulm, Germany in 1900, came to the United States in 1929 and was naturalized as an American citizen in 1939. She married her husband Max in 1933. Together they helped raise a young girl who became Mrs. Voit's lifelong friend. In 2006 she received the Boston Post Cane for being the oldest resident of Kennebunk. While a resident of the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mrs. Voit enjoyed singing and bowling. She would sing "O Tannenbaum" in German for the other residents during the center's Christmas party. Mrs. Voit would sit in the front hallway of the center greeting visitors, dressed in an aqua vest and Mardi Gras beads. She watched the Lawrence Welk Show every day. Mrs. Voit will be missed by all who knew her; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 895)

Lois Bolstridge Bowers, of Bangor. Mrs. Bowers was a chef for 30 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Tuscan Chapter No. 148, American Legion Honor Guard Post No. 84 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Norman J. Dow Post No. 1761. Sarah Ford, of Berwick, who has received the Girl Scout Bronze Award. This is the third highest award in Girl Scouting and is given for excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. We send our congratulations to Sarah on this accomplishment; (HLS 897)

Christopher Michael Allinson, of Berwick, who has attained the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout. This is the highest award in Boy Scouting and is given for excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. Wilbert B. Small, a lifelong resident of West Bath. Mr. Small was educated in the Littlefield Schoolhouse on the Berry's Mill Road, graduated from Morse High School and was a member and president of the Morse High School Alumni Association. Mr. Small served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Italy, where he was a technician, 4th grade. He worked 34 years for the civil service, working at the Navy Fuel Depot in Harpswell, on the Coast Guard Base in South Portland and at the Bath Post Office. In 2008, Mr. Small and his wife received the West Bath Board of Selectmen's Special Recognition Award for their many years of community service. He was a member of the West Bath Grange, the E911 Committee, the WINNS Committee, the West Bath Historical Society, the Tri-Town Winnegance Alewife Commission and the American Legion Smith Tobey Post 21 in Bath. He served as a volunteer fireman and was fire chief of the West Bath Fire Department. The fire department dedicated the Squad 8 fire truck to him. Mr. Small enjoyed farming, putting on clambakes and being active in the West Bath community. Mr. Small will be sadly missed by his family and friends and his community; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 899)

R. Wayne Werts, of Auburn, on the occasion of his retirement from the Auburn Fire Department after 33 years of dedicated service. Chief Werts began at the Auburn Fire Department on May 2, 1977 and became fire chief on March 22, 2001. During his time in the department he earned an associate degree in fire science and became a paramedic. He was president of the union for 6 years and serves on the Maine Fire Chiefs' Association Board of Directors representing Androscoggin County and the Maine EMS Board as the Municipal EMS Provider Representative. Chief Werts served as the chair of the Maine EMS Board for 2 years and is on the task force of the All Hazards Training Facilities study. He has worked as an EMS instructor, teaching throughout Maine and internationally. We extend our appreciation to Chief R. Wayne Werts for his commitment to the citizens of the State and wish him well in his future endeavors; (HLS 900)

Eugene F. Stanley, Sr., of Medway, beloved husband and father. Mr. Stanley served in the United States Army during the Korean War and he worked for Great Northern Paper Company for 43 years. Reed and Reed, of Woolwich, which is the recipient of a SHARP award sponsored by the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program. The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program recognizes small employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system. Acceptance into SHARP by the United States Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration is an achievement of status as a model of work site safety and health management. Karl Eliot Douin, of Hollis, a student at Bonny Eagle High School and one of two delegates chosen to represent Maine in the 48th annual United States Senate Youth Program in Washington, D.C. The United States Senate Youth Program was established in 1962 and is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service. We congratulate Karl on his achieving this distinction of representing Maine in our Nation's capital and we send him our best wishes; (HLS 903)

Frank J. Gaziano, of Cape Elizabeth, who was a prominent member of the community. Mr. Gaziano was raised in Waltham, Massachusetts. He was a gifted athlete and won a football scholarship to College of the Holy Cross, where he graduated in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He was selected as an All-American football player and went on to

play professional football. Mr. Gaziano served in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he worked for Anheuser-Busch, first as a route salesman in 1946 in Boston. By the late 1950s, he became the Division Manager and was assigned to manage the entire New England territory. In 1960, he purchased National Distributors, Inc. in Portland. The company originally operated out of a small warehouse on York Street that received and shipped beer out of the same door. Today the company employs 200 people and is celebrating its

50th year in business. In 1985, Mr. Gaziano donated $50,000 for the construction of the bandstand in Deering Oaks Park in Portland. He was the local sponsor of the Annual Holy Cross Book Award which was presented to a student at Catherine McAuley High School to encourage attendance at College of the Holy Cross. He initiated an awards dinner for outstanding student athletes selected by Class A coaches, now sponsored by the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Gaziano was a member of the Portland Lions Club, H.T. Andrews Post, the Portland Elks Club, the Cumberland Club, the Italian Heritage Club, the Holy Cross Alumni Association and the Holy Cross President's Council. We acknowledge his dedicated commitment to his community. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving family and those whose lives he touched; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 904)

Charles C. Bacheller, of Norridgewock. Mr. Bacheller was born in Waterville, was a graduate of Good Will-Hinckley, a school for students facing challenges, and attended Thomas Business College. In 1966, he began service in the United States Army as a heavy equipment mechanic stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1969 with the rank of sergeant. In 1970, Mr. Bacheller began his 19-year career with the Maine State Police. He also worked for International Paper in Jay and he owned and operated Chuck's Auto Sales in Norridgewock. Mr. Bacheller was active in the community, having been a past master of the Lebanon 116 Masonic Lodge in Norridgewock as well as a lifetime member of both the Winslow Veterans of Foreign Wars MacCrillis-Rousseau Post 8835 and Fairfield American Legion Post 14. the Town of Eliot, in honor of its Bicentennial Anniversary. Originally part of the Piscataqua Plantation in 1623 and incorporated in 1647 as the Second Parish of Kittery, Eliot became a separate town in 1810. During the 19th century, the quaint village was known for its fertile fields, orchards, shipbuilding and brickyards. Over the years, Eliot, in a scenic location along the Piscataqua River, has developed into a town of over 6,000 residents. Buildings of historical interest in the town include the William Fogg Library, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007, the William Fogg House, the Dr. Willis Homestead, built in 1725, and the Libby Home, a former roadside tavern built in 1768. We extend our congratulations to the good citizens of Eliot as they celebrate the 200th birthday of one of our State's southernmost communities; (HLS 906)

James Bessey, of Farmington, who has been named Coach of the Year for the Northern Division by the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference. Mr. Bessey is coach of the Mt. Blue Boys Basketball Team. the celebration of Eliza Steele Day in the City of Rockland on June 12, 2010. The city and the Rockland District Nursing Association will honor Eliza Steele's more than 40 years of service to and partnership with the community. In 1929, Eliza Steele, RN, joined community leaders to form the Rockland District Nursing Association. Supported solely through local funds and together with the community, Eliza Steele and the association responded to changing community health needs. She retired in 1968, having worked as a Public Health nurse, RDNA nurse and school nurse and in other capacities. Eighty years later, the association picks up her mission, in continued partnership with the community and the City of Rockland, understanding that the health of the community is dependent on the well-being of its most vulnerable members. We join with the Rockland District Nursing Association and the City of Rockland in celebrating Eliza Steele Day on June 12, 2010 and honoring the legacy of Eliza Steele's work and commitment; (HLS 909)

the Westbrook High School Wrestling Team, which won the 2010 Class A Eastern Regional Championship. Two team members were State Champions: Cole Larrivee, with a season record of 38 wins to 12 losses; and Andrew Drouin, who was the school's first three-time state finalist. Team member Danielle Richards placed first at the 3rd Annual Maine State Girls Invitational Tournament. Daniel C. Smith, of Gorham, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 817, who has attained the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout. Kelley Damboise, of Caribou, a senior at the University of Maine at Farmington, who was recently honored as an Outstanding Future Professional by the Eastern District Association of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She is one of only two Maine college students chosen in 2009 for this distinction. Ms. Damboise is majoring in community health education with a concentration in school health. She was recognized for this prestigious award for her academic achievement, campus and community involvement, leadership qualities and professional standing. the late Steve Bull, of Temple, who has had the 2009 Town Report of Temple dedicated to his memory for his longtime service to the town. Paul L. Farrington, a longtime resident of South China and prominent member of his community. Mr. Farrington was born in Waterville and was a graduate of Erskine Academy and Bates Business College. He was president of his class at the Dale Carnegie Course. He was cofounder of the South China Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Dirigo Lodge No. 157 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Kora Temple. Mr. Farrington was the owner of Farrington's Clothing and Footwear, for many years a popular destination for purchasing clothing in the area. He was also an entrepreneur who enjoyed buying and selling antiques and collectables and was cofounder and treasurer of Break of Day, Inc. Mr. Farrington will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving wife of 52 years, his loving family and his many friends and neighbors; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 921)

Patrick J. Federico, of Medway, beloved husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Federico served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany as a mechanic in the motor pool. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, East Millinocket American Legion, and was a charter member and past president of Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Federico built, owned and operated a service station, car dealership and hardware store and, with his wife, opened PJ's Pasta, which became a favorite dining spot for many. He loved vacationing with family at the camp he built on Cedar Lake where he enjoyed fishing, swimming and boating. Mr. Federico's wonderful sense of humor and quick wit will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 922)

Beverly J. Pelletier, of Hampden. Mrs. Pelletier attended Stearns High School and Westbrook College. She worked in Millinocket for many years at the Millinocket Community Hospital and White Birch Medical Center. She also worked in the children's unit at Acadia Hospital, which she found to be her most rewarding work. She was very active in the local chamber of commerce, the Rotary Club, the American Legion and the Millinocket Emblem Club. Dennis Sweetser, of Auburn. Mr. Sweetser was a graduate of Edward Little High School and Bates College and was a lifelong educator. He taught chemistry at Edward Little High School for 33 years and was head of the science department before he retired in 2004. Mr. Sweetser devoted 42 years to the Auburn Suburban Little League, as coach, manager, historian and onetime occupant of every chair on the governing board. One of his proudest experiences was managing his Senior League All-Star team of 1979, which advanced all the way to the Senior League World Series in Gary, Indiana. She was married to George Littlefield, who died in 1955. She has lived on Munjoy Hill in Portland for 70 years. Riley Masters, of Bangor, a sophomore member of the University of Maine Cross Country and Track teams and the first Black Bear to break the 4-minute barrier in the mile run. Riley broke the school record on February 13, 2010 with a time of 3

minutes, 59.97 seconds, provisionally qualifying him for the NCAA Championships. On February 20, 2010, Riley won the 3,000-meter run at the America East Indoor Track Championship. We congratulate Riley on his exceptional achievements and send him our best wishes on his future endeavors; (HLS 931)

Gary Levesque, of Van Buren, upon his retirement as a supervisory accountant at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in Limestone. In October 1973 Mr. Levesque enlisted in the military and was honorably discharged in 1981. He worked with the Civil Service and co-owned a consignment and antique shop in the mid-1990s. Mr. Levesque was hired at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in March 1995. He enjoys photography, golf and bird-watching. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Levesque on his retirement; (HLS 932)

Joseph Lamoin, of Gorham, for his heroism in helping his family escape unharmed from a fire that started in their home. Joseph, just 4 years of age at the time, remembered the training he had received during a fire prevention program at his day care center when he woke up and smelled smoke in his house and was able to wake up his mother, sister and grandmother, allowing all of them to get out of the building safely. We congratulate Joseph Lamoin for his quick thinking and knowledge of fire safety, which enabled him to help save the lives of his family members; (HLS 933)

Steve Shible, Director of the Farmington Parks and Recreation Department, on his 30 years of service to the Town of Farmington. Mr. Shible has been an asset to the town and has been recognized by the Farmington Board of Selectmen for his hard work, loyalty and dedication. An estimated 10,000 children have participated in Farmington recreational programs during his tenure. Matt Butler, of Windham, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 51, who has attained the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout. This is the highest award in Boy Scouting and is given for excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. Matt's Eagle service project was to build a timber boardwalk crossing a bog area over 75 feet in length, a key element for the Windham cross-country trails.
