Lighting Camera Operator / Director Cameraman
Highly talented and respected for his lighting and seamless operating, Robert has an eye for creative compositions. Composed, glossy, edgy, gritty, and ob-doc are all styles he excels in. A versatile, friendly approach and varied experience of practical production are factors which make Rob a great Lighting Cameraman, Camera Operator and Director Cameraman. He has crafted many eye-catching docs, commercials, brand-building promotions, super corporates and talked-about programmes. He brings valuable skills, knowledge, dedication and editorial input to any production.
Rob’s experience of over twenty years in the media industry covers the whole range of programme formats. He is skilled in Single-camera, Multi-camera, Outside Broadcast, and Live Events production. Originally trained at the BBC Film Unit, and with much work in the independent and commercial sectors he knows his way around all cameras, equipment and workflow – Film, High Definition, XDCAM HD, Digibeta, DVCAM, The RED Camera, Time-Lapse Filming and Photography. Rob has also attended Apple Pro certified FCP Edit Training Courses.

Extensive experience working in many countries around the world; the USA, Cuba, the Caribbean, Africa, South America, Asia and the Middle East. Closer to home, assignments in most of Europe, including Russia. Rob is familiar with Customs procedures, Carnet arrangements, and many cultural practices and can help with logistical procedures. He has a current American ‘I’ work Visa.

…and the Legendary Stuff – Robert was the main Cameraman for the two series of Channel 4’s groundbreaking ‘NETWORK 7’, acknowledged as the genesis of ‘Youth Television’ and the new wave of hand-held and roving camera styles described as Canted or Dutch. Rob was instrumental in developing the shooting style for MTV Europe, and he was also primary in regularly filming Channel 4’s iconic series ‘THE WORD’ (with Terry Christian), from the outset. Channel 4’s flagship Arts Documentary strand ‘SIGNALS’, during the nineties was filmed by Robert on both sides of the Atlantic to great critical acclaim. Robert went on to work on the BBC’s arts response, THE LATE SHOW. He also worked on the BBC’s first reality series (before anyone knew it as Reality) THE LIVING SOAP. Other programmes Robert has been associated with include That’s Life, Blue Peter, Horizon, Panorama, Channel 4’s Dispatches, Cutting Edge and The Big Art Project.
Hobbies and Interests:
Rock Climbing, and long Hill Walks, which I get a great buzz from. I work out at the gym regularly, and enjoy keeping fit. I’ve real interests and good knowledge about the countryside and wildlife. I’m a keen photographer too. I love Art, great Architecture, and buildings and I like to visit art galleries and contemporary art exhibitions where I can experience a range of ideas and be inspired. Apart from that, all the usual things - good food, good wine, good company, music, cars, sports, and…seeing my Football Team win…and not forgetting, I really enjoy my work!!! I feel so lucky to be at the top of my game, working and doing a lot of things I enjoy.
