-
Two servers:
-
Gateway E-9232 Server (circa 2007) handling Filemaker & Quickbooks
-
Dell T110 Server (<3 years old) running 2003 Server software
-
At least six wireless routers (all home-grade, lesser brands)
-
Three good commercial switches in the main server room, connected to at least 5 consumer-grade switches in other buildings
-
A Diskstation DS411 Network Attached Storage device
-
SwitchVox Asterisk-based PBX for VoIP phone system (plus ~30 SNOM VoIP phones)
-
Cisco SA-520W Security Appliance
-
Approximately 25 teacher & staff computers, in various stages of quality and performance, most commonly the Lenovo J Series 3000 (circa 2007) running Windows XP
-
Approximately 16 Computer Lab computers, also Lenovo J Series 3000’s.
-
Approximately 70 Microsoft Exchange mailboxes being hosted locally on the server.
-
Approximately 36 “Alpha Smart 3000” in Upper El (circa 2000).
The network has multiple issues, including:
-
Unreliable / unstable wireless networking throughout the campus
-
Unreliable server (requires frequent rebooting, “every morning”)
-
Outdated Microsoft Office software (2003, current version is 2013)
-
Unlicensed (Trial) versions of Photoshop Elements used in computer lab, causing frequent uninstall/reinstalls
-
Teachers & Students cannot access key resources (U: Drive, some emails & calendar) when off campus.
-
Most desktop computer hardware is 5+ years old
-
Only one “Video-production capable” computer, an older Mac Pro, is available for students to use.
-
Frequent connection issues with Epson wireless projectors
-
Printer connections frequently disappear and must be reloaded on various computers.
-
Not enough computers are available to cover all functions, leading to some teachers using their own personal computers, or situations where teachers must find a working computer for each class (science lab).
-
Frequent damaged equipment or need to reset equipment after electrical storms.
In addition, the staff has a “wish list” of additional features they would like to see added, including:
-
6-12 computers (ideally Mac) capable of handling multimedia, video production, and website design projects for students. Adobe CS6 Production Suite software or equivalent is needed.
-
Training for teachers on updated software & technology
-
An easy way for students to turn in assignments online
-
Replace 36 “Alpha Smart” data entry tablets with iPads or similar modern tablets.
